MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SECONDARY

Dear Parents Welcome to the start of the Sixth Form journey at Amity International School. A Sixth Form education at Amity International School is exciting, enriching and deeply rewarding. The Sixth Form years form an important transmission between the guided learning of GCSEs and the more personal and individual experience of university education. It is a time where students develop valuable independent study skills and a sense of responsibility for their own academic progress. We are proud to offer a Sixth Form that provides an academic pathway that gives access to universities on the world's stage. Our globally recognised curriculum aids in having students develop academic rigour and the necessary skills to fully prepare for a bright future career. We offer small class sizes to support student development, state of the art facilities and a dedicated team of outstanding teachers to help your child at every step of the way. We provide an enriched programme and a range of activities that support student growth and actualisation. Our students are provided bespoke career guidance and will have a dedicated Sixth Form Tutor on hand to support and guide them with their university applications. We are delighted that you will be joining us on your Sixth Form journey. We hope that you find this booklet helpful and informative in guiding your decision making and if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to talk to us. Mr David Slade Head of Secondary

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SIXTH FORM

We are proud to be able to offer the opportunity of studying a strong post-16 education at our incredible school and we hope that this prospectus, alongside the Course Guide, will give you a clear picture of our Sixth Form and the courses that are available to prospective Amity Sixth Form students. The family atmosphere and the caring community which we foster, enables our students to develop a sense of worth and show responsibility and leadership. All our students are treated as individuals and we recognise their different abilities, aptitudes and interests. We take great care in nurturing our students, ensuring they can all move on successfully after their time with us and pride ourselves on providing a personalised and outstanding careers advice and guidance programme to our students. Our sixth Form provides a well-equipped, collaborative environment which is conducive to serious study. Our recent record of examination achievement is very good and we are proud of our success in helping students secure the place at their preferred universities across the world. Our strong personal tutor team is familiar with the changing landscape and expectations of higher education and we provide expert guidance in this area. I believe one of the great privileges of teaching is to work with Sixth Formers, as we guide them from becoming school students to securing their post-18 destinations. It is always exciting to start the process of welcoming more Sixth Formers to our courses, and if there is anything we can do to help you make informed choices, please do not hesitate to talk to us. We look forward to welcoming you into our Sixth Form community. Stephen Moffatt Deputy Head of Secondary & Head of Sixth Form

PATHWAYS The Sixth Form curriculum at Amity is rich and varied to make available a wealth of pathways for students when they graduate. Enhanced by our super curricular activities such as the MiniMBA and Amity Horizons programmes our students are futureproofed to make their mark in modern society having attained academic excellence as well as immersive experiences. The three pathways available at Amity Sixth Form are Academic, Vocational or a mixture of the two with the decision on which post 16 pathway to choose being determined by many factors. A Levels are typically academic and terminal in their nature with outcomes usually determined by the end of Year 13 exams and no coursework. They normally have entry requirements of at least a grade 6 at GCSE whereas outcomes in vocational courses tend to be determined by a combination of coursework demonstrating practical, real world skills as well as exams so factors such as hard work and organisation become more important.

BESPOKE PATHWAYS UAE Nationals

Amity Sixth Form is proud to support a number of Emirati students and ensures that students and their families are provided with the necessary advice and guidance with regards to equivalency so that they can take their next steps with confidence. Equivalency refers to the British Curriculum public examinations which are recognized by the UAE and MOE which therefore result in a leavers certificate and allows the bearer to continue studying in the UAE or seek government employment. Decree 833 states that Emirati students must pass 1 A Level subject or 2 AS Level subjects at Grade E or above (from an approved list of subjects which can be seen below) to gain equivalency as well as passing a ministry exam in Arabic. Here at Amity, we provide careers advice and guidance to all Emirati students on their enrolment to Sixth Form and support families with the decision to pursue equivalency or waive their right to it.

We are also proud to offer a range of increasingly popular L3 BTEC courses (worth the equivalent of one A Level and graded from Pass – Distinction *). These are more modular in their assessment and outcomes are determined from a mixture of internally assessed coursework units or controlled assessments. Unlike an A level, Level 3 BTEC subjects have no examinations. The courses currently available include Business Studies, ICT, Sport and Applied Science.

SUPER CURRICULUM

Why do we place such an emphasis on super-curricular? The best universities are seeking intellectually curious students who are deeply passionate about their subjects. Simply put, studying 3 A Levels is not really enough to demonstrate this. At Amity, we encourage our students to explore their specialist interests through our super curricular provision which allows students plentiful opportunity to demonstrate their learning way beyond the realms of their curriculum and enjoy the sort of independence that can be experienced once they embark on their university courses. We offer a broad range of super-curriculum activities at Amity including, but not limited to; The Extended Project Qualification EPQ Amity HorizonsProgramme Mini-MBA and collaboration with Amity University Student leadership opportunities such as sports, academic and peer mentoring
