Assessment type Four language skills will be assessed: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will be asked to complete a range of reading, listening and writing tasks throughout the term. Speaking performance will assessed during presentations, class discussions and picture description tasks. Students will also complete end of topic assessments which will cover all four language skills. They will have to answer open-ended, true/false and multiple choice questions (listening and reading), describe a picture (speaking and writing) and produce a longer piece of writing (a blog entry, a letter/email and an essay).

In this term in Biology, Year 9 students will start Unit 3 Breathing where they will learn about the breathing system and respiration. They will then move onto Unit 4 Circulation. As part of this unit they will study the heart and learn about the blood including the different vessels and blood types.

In the first half of term two, learners will explore the theme of Refugee’s through an exploration of the play adaption of ‘Refugee Boy’ by Benjamin Zephania. We will explore carefully selected script extracts and develop understanding of character development.

This term Year 9 will be moving onto a new project theme of “Pattern and Symmetry”. They will learn mirror image and rotational symmetry using Microsoft Excel and Photopea they will study the work of Bridget Riley and M. C. Escher.

In Year 9, during term 2, students will work on two projects: creating a slottogether docking station and a wooden acoustic speaker. These projects encourage autonomy, design creativity, and prototyping. Students will also build a mini portfolio similar to GCSE coursework, exploring material properties, advantages, and disadvantages, and refining designs through modeling. They will learn to choose the right tools and processes for creating their products.
In DT we use Seneca and Design Technology Student to support learning.

In year 9 PE, boys will be completing a scheme of work on Rugby and Health Related Fitness. Girls will be completing a scheme of work on Football and Health Related Fitness. The Health Related Fitness lessons will be practical lessons linked to the GCSE specification, this is designed to give students an idea of the course in preparation for their option selections. Students will learn the technique for different skills within each sport and how to use these within a competitive game situation. Students will understand the rules and how to implement these into their learning. Within each lesson students will be questioned about the sports techniques, tactics and rules and how these can be implemented fairly in a game.
