Michael A. Chirco was born in Detroit, Michigan to Italian immigrants Joseph and Eva Chirco, who moved from Sicily Italy in 1936 to Detroit, Michigan. It was from them that he received pride in his Italian ancestry and has returned many times to Italy to visit with friends and relatives. Growing up in the City of Detroit, he attended high school and worked in his fa-
ther’s fish market. In 1965, he was drafted and served two years in the United States Army. His honorable discharge coincided with 1967 Detroit riots that destroyed his father’s fish market. Out of that loss, the beginning of his construction empire began. In 1968, he sold his first home and in four short years in 1972, he formed his first company, MJC Homes Inc, which is still in business today. For 2016, Builder magazine ranked MJC Companies® as one of America’s Top 200 Biggest Builders. With $74 million in gross revenue, MJC Companies® was one of only two companies in southeastern Michigan to make the list. Over the last 50 years, he has built a
vast enterprise in the real estate market through a realty company, commercial building and leasing, residential building, apartment building, and real estate development; which accounts for over 9,000 sold homes with approximate total sales of over $1.25 billion. In 2005, he was recognized as the nation’s 5th largest condominium builder. His cornerstone belief in providing quality construction at a fair price has brought success and recognition in the building industry. Yet beyond his success, is his integrity which was proven in the most recent recession when he personally carried the financial weight of his employees for over six (6) years knowing if he let them go then most would be financially devastated with no opportunities of employment.
