LA BEFANA VISITS IACS The Italian legendary La Befana is a witch who flies around the world on her tattered broomstick on the night of January 5 to bring good children treats on the morning of the Epiphany. But if you were bad, you may wake up to a lump of coal!

Who is this? Our Befana arrives with goodies (maybe) with children of the Village

Maria Sugamelli and Jordan David, IACS students with Befana

La Befana with her broomstick in hand arrived at the IACS to celebrate this mythical merriment on Saturday, January 5, 2019. The children were over the moon to see her. The family event (over 100 people attended) included coloring contest, cookie decorating, storybook time, food and drinks, raffles and prizes, stockings filled with oranges and goodies or chucks of coal! It was a happy time not only for IACS members but for the people who live in our community who came and enjoyed. Not surprising, it was a very successful event for the second consecutive year, due in part to the dedication and commitment of the IACS Italian education program. Special thanks to the teachers, Maria Sugameli and Jordan David. Jordan David, who recently joined the Saturday children’s education staff, also emceed the event. Our gratitude along with sincere thanks goes to Teria DeLorenzo, Clarice Squillace, Lisa Valerio-Nowc, Mark Papale, Dr. Mike Aiello, Randazzo Fresh Market, and last but definitely not least, the IACS and banquet staff. We look forward to next year’s La Befana – You don’t want to miss it.
