March 2019

by Seth Halpern Editor I always believed that God heals. I’ve heard the miraculous testimonies. I’ve heard about the revivals and healing services where many received healing at the same service. I’ve heard speakers who went around the country (or even the world) telling their story of God’s healing in their body. I have to be honest, I have often been skeptical, not unlike the skepticism I might have for a magic act. Now, I am not at all in any way comparing a magician to the Almighty God, so please don ‘t send me nasty notes accusing me of such. I am merely stating that I haven’t always believed every healing testimony at face value without some evidence. Remember, I am a journalist.

Is Your Faith Greater Than Your Fears? Page 12

I fully believe that God CAN and DOES heal people of various infirmities, just as much as He provides finances at the right time and restores relationships that are broken. I just haven’t always believed it simply because someone told me or saw it on the internet. But seeing is believing and when you see it for yourself and it is undeniable, it does something to you. Most of us have experienced the fairly everyday trials of sickness and pain. Sometimes, we pray for it and ask others to pray and soon it is gone. We praise

God (rightly so) and move on with our lives. But sometimes… the incredible, miraculous healing occurs right “on our street”. That’s what happened at our small local church. Let me tell you the story of a man at our church. His name is Kelly. About two months ago (at the time of this writing), Kelly was spending time near Ellis Lake in Marysville. Kelly spent a lot of time there. He said that God spoke to him often and that He wanted Kelly to spend time praying, reading the Bible, singing, and

talking to people about the Lord as they walked by. Kelly had a lot time to do this at Ellis Lake because he was disabled and not working. He had been suffering from epilepsy for years and had many, many seizures. This particular day that Kelly was at the lake, he had a seizure and fell into the lake! At some point a passerby spotted him and called 911 to get him to the hospital. No one seems to know how long Kelly was in Ellis Lake or how much of the polluted water he drank. All that was known was that he was on life support and the doctors gave him little chance to pull through. Exactly a week later, I received a call from Kelly’s brother who used to attend

INSPIRATION MARCH by April James www.BeyondTheSilverCoin.org When we want to move forward but find ourselves restrained to one place it can be frustrating. When it seems as if we are presently being held and not released to go – march, march in place preparing for when the time is right and the Lord says go, then march forth into the openings and assignments. A regretful place to be is one where we are being called to march forth, yet we give excuses and stay in one place. Moses was full of excuses. In Exodus, we see where he was called by God to go but Moses gave a number of reasons for why God should pick someone else. Do any of Moses excuses sound familiar or similar to ones we have used: you have chosen the wrong person, who am I, I am not holy enough, I might fail, I don’t have the right gifts or skills, I am slow of speech and tongue (don’t speak well in front of others)? Moses had excuses but God had excuse annihilators; I will be with you, I will help you speak and teach you what to do. Moses looked at himself considering his inabilities and fears, while God looked at His power and abilities to work through a flawed person; imperfect people are His perfect vessels. Moses asked God to send someone else but eventually he agreed to go, thus impacting millions of lives. Can we hear the Lord saying to us today, “I’m calling you. Yes, I said it before and I'm saying it again, I don't want you to lose sight of it or dismiss it thinking it is

someone else I'm speaking to, it's you my friend. I have plans for you, you have been in the shadows. It's time to come out, to step into your purpose, no more excuses. Others need what is inside of you. You can do this for I have equipped you and I am your strength. Will you be my voice? It is time.” As we step out, we can expect opposition. Moses had it, so did King David, Jesus had it as well as the apostles; but be strong and of good courage for the Lord is with us. And, “…great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord” Psalm 117:2 NIV. Though we might find it to be extraordinarily challenging at times, the rewards are magnificently fulfilling and satisfying; they far exceed any price we pay. In addition, we'll have no end of life regrets at having rejected the Lord’s call. What is Holy Spirit stirring within? Are we ready to end the excuses, to trust that God knows what He is doing, that he will be with us, will help us speak and teach us what to do? It’s not too late – let’s march!

Beautiful Darkness by Paula McBride My friends often comment on my obsession with “twinkle lights”. All year, my living spaces are lit with decorative lights that provide a warm ambiance in an otherwise dark house. It’s been even darker lately as we’ve been oppressed with smoky or cloudy skies. When asked about the reason for all the twinkle lights, my answer comes easily. I don’t like the dark. I don’t like to get up early to a dark, cold house. Turning on the lights provides beauty that overpowers the darkness and sets the atmosphere to one of brilliance instead of gloom. With the lights, a cup of coffee, and my Bible, the day begins with a glow. At night, the day closes with relaxation and reflection of the day’s beauty. Yes, I love the way the lights beautify my darkness. I think God likes lights, too, since His first act of creation was light. When He saw that it was good, He separated light from darkness. Then, on the fourth day, He created the sun, moon, and stars. Again, the purpose was to separate light from darkness. One of the golden elements in the tabernacle was the candlestick. Think how dark it was underneath layers of cloth and skins. God planned a worshipful ambiance, first of all in the beauty of the carefully handcrafted candlestick with its branches and blossoms. Then He told Moses to tell Aaron that the placement of the lamps should always light the area to

the front of the candlestick (Numbers 8:13). It was in this light, the only light in the tabernacle, that the priest performed his duties. Can you imagine the beauty as reflections radiated off other gold furnishings? Beautiful darkness! A very dark time in the history of God’s people was in 165 B.C. when Antiochus Epiphanes tried to force the Jews to leave their customs of worshiping God. A family who came to be known as the Maccabees led a revolt and, though greatly outnumbered, was victorious and the Jews were able to reclaim autonomy. After months of cleansing the temple, a holy feast was planned for its rededication. However, when they went to light the candlestick, only one uncontaminated cruse of oil was found that could be used. It would light the temple for one day. In God’s way of turning darkness to light, He caused the oil to last eight days. Even today, Jews and other believers celebrate the Festival of Lights, or Hanukah, as that

INSPIRATION

New Crayons by Christy Boals www.gracefilledpurpose.com As we were driving to church on Sunday, my three year old discovered a crayon in her car seat. Very soon, of course, she broke it in half. She turned to her big sister and asked her to fix it. Sister replied, “I don't know how to fix a broken crayon.” I immediately started mulling the problem over. The only way I knew to fix a broken crayon would be to melt it down and re-mold it. Ah yes God, are you talking to me before we even get to church? I could see the picture so clearly. Me, the crayon broken in pieces by someone's hands who had not been gentle with my heart. God saying the only way to “fix" it is to go through the fire to melt me down. I think I remember something about this in

the Bible, melting the impurities of sin out of us. Then the re-molding of my shape, maybe this time into a shape even a little more like Jesus. I will be a brightly colored new crayon again. But new crayons don't just sit in boxes. They are used to make beautiful

Gideons Pastor’s Appreciation Banquet “Great! Loved it. Thanks for inviting us” “Very blessed by tonight’s pastor’s appreciation dinner.” “Loved the testimony” “Wonderful evening, thank you.” These are some of the comments from pastors in Yuba-Sutter who came to the annual Pastor’s Appreciation Banquet. The local Gideons count it a privilege to honor our local pastors and their wives by giving them a delightful evening of fellowship, dinner, sharing, good music and good information about how God is using the distribution of His Word. It is usually held in the month of April, and this year is no exception. The Gideon ministry considers the local churches to be their partner, both financially and with prayer support. We really could not exist without the support of pastors and their churches. Gideon membership also comes from these churches.

This year the Pastor’s Dinner is being held On Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM The Plaza Room - 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City We encourage pastors to bring another couple from their church with them as our guests. Look for more information and a response card in the mail.

whole life. Drawing and breaking, melting and molding. I know I am safe in my Father's hands. I can come to Him with the broken pieces of my life and He will be gentle. Sitting in church I smile to myself as the pastor reads Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” (Italics mine.) I look around the congregation at us, the new crayons. It’s been weeks since New York legalized abortion up to the moment of birth… and the abortion industry is aggressively moving to legalize late-term abortion and infanticide EVERYWHERE. It’s a disturbing and frightening time in our nation’s history. But God uses these moments for His glory, and Planned Parenthood’s strategy is backfiring, exposing the brutality of abortion to tens of millions of people. God is using the barbaric and chilling tone of abortion supporters to draw new people into the pro-life movement. Meanwhile, the disconnect of abortion advocates increases by the day. In fact, we will have the largest spring 40 Days for Life campaign EVER in 377 cities on March 6!

During the recent State of the Union Address, President Trump eloquently called on Congress to ban late-term abortions: “Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world. And then…the Governor of Virginia… basically stated he would execute a baby after birth.” On the latest episode of the 40 Days for Life Podcast, they discuss New York’s barbaric abortion law and reactions to it from both the abortion industry and the pro-life movement. Go there to listen:

CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY NDP hosted by CBA & TACN You may be familiar with the acronym for CBA, however I doubt many of you are familiar with TACN. I mention this because the National Day of Prayer Breakfast has been sponsored over the years by the Christian Business Alliance (CBA) and it has been co-sponsored for many years by The Ambassador Christian Newspaper (hereby known from this point on as TACN). Honestly, I doubt Seth will agree to this new catchy acronym. Regardless, the point of this article is to simply remind you to mark your calendar for Thursday, May 2nd. It will

be held at the Church of Glad Tidings from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. We have already secured our speaker and as a teaser, this individual played for the San Francisco 49ers and scored a touchdown the very first time he touched the ball. More importantly, he is a genuine dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and spends his life making a difference in the lives of others. So please join us for a great breakfast, a great speaker, and a time to worship and pray. For tickets or more information, contact David Kugelman at drkug@comcast.net

Continued From Page 4 - "Beautiful Darkness" festival has become known. When Jesus came to earth, He came as the Light of the World. His purpose was that no one ever walk in darkness. Through faith in Him, we can have the light of life. In turn, we are called to be lights in this dark world. “You are the light of the world,” Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16. “Let your light shine before

others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Lights are beautiful whether they light up the living room or light up through you. Sunny days are coming as spring moves in, but darkness still resides in the lives of suffering brothers and sisters. It certainly pervades our world. Let’s be beautiful in that darkness.

COMMUNITY FROM THE ARCHIVES Mom to mom: life at maximum capacity by JoLynne Keough (Originally published in March 2008) Lately everywhere I turn, I am dealing with the “full toy box” rule. At our house, I try to manage clutter by setting limits on storage space. Once the toy box lid won’t shut, it has exceeded maximum capacity. In order to add new toys, my children must sort out old toys to give away. We apply the rule to closets, cupboards, and bookshelves too. Since we have just finished birthday season which closely follows Christmas, our storage space is maxed out again. Crammed cupboards can be overwhelming, but a crammed life is even worse. Is it just me, or do you feel like you are flying from one event to the next with brief layovers at home to prepare for the next obligation? How long can we keep this up? As for me, my life has exceeded maximum capacity. I realized this yesterday at 6:20 pm when it hit me that I had completely forgotten to make the four dozen brownies I had promised to deliver to church before 6:00pm. Thud. When my life gets too full, something gets dropped. And I feel stressed out and miserable. I know my life is out of balance, so I go to God’s Word. Solomon, the wisest

man who ever lived, has some advice. “Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 4:6). Yep. That sounds like my life—two hands full of toil and activities, chasing after the wind of “getting everything done.” The problem is that if both hands are full with my priorities, how can I expect to receive anything else from God? I have to loosen my white-knuckled grip on accepting every invitation to please people I care about. God wants me to have space to think and breathe. Yet I keep filling my time to maximum capacity. If God says that a one handful life is better, perhaps I should try it. Applying the “full toy box” rule to my life will cost me. I may have to turn down some enjoyable activities and worthy causes. However, I will focus on what I have to gain. The better, tranquil life Solomon recommends.

We build structures and relationships to last.

COMMUNITY Continued From Page 1 - "Does God Still Heal" the church but moved out of the area. He told me that his brother had been on life support for a week and some of his organs were in danger of failing. He also told me that Kelly asked for my wife and me to see him at the hospital. This was intriguing because there were other people in church who had a closer relationship with Kelly. We went to see him of course and I also notified our pastor as well as another couple in leadership. Although he was week, Kelly was coherent. We all prayed for him and thought it would be miraculous if God brought him out of this. About three days later, he was released. The following week Kelly made it back to church. Here’s the most amazing part. There is literally nothing about Kelly that would indicate that any of this had ever happened! Not only that, but his seizures have significantly dissipated! I’m not saying that his recovery was due to any single prayer or even the combined prayers of all. Certainly, in God’s economy, prayer is the currency. However, the One who healed Kelly is God Almighty and to Him we owe honor

and blessing and worship! I must honestly admit that if I had heard this story from someone I didn’t know well or If I saw it on the internet or heard it from a speaker, I might be skeptical or even suspicious that there was some illusion going on (I believe, Lord help my unbelief!). But when you see it with your own eyes, it’s indisputable. The Apostle Thomas didn’t believe what the others were saying about Jesus resurrection until he touched the hands and side of the Lord himself. Then Jesus said “You believed because you have seen, blessed are those who believe without seeing” Lord, help us to believe.

Dear God, I hope my dog is with you in Heaven, please take care of him. Oh and God, sorry if he chews on your sandals. Timmy

Is Your Faith Greater Than Your Fears? by Carol Round, Special to ASSIST News Service “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” -- Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV). As a young child, I was afraid of the dark, especially when it was bedtime. Although my mother placed a small nightlight in my bedroom, the bulb’s dim output did nothing to allay my fears. Before I finally drifted off to sleep, I would imagine someone or something hiding in the shadowy recesses of the room I shared with my younger sister. My fears were so palpable on some nights, I would awaken my mother to bring me a glass of water under the pretense of being thirsty. On other nights, I would beg my sister to let me crawl into her twin size bed to sleep. Eventually, I outgrew my fear of the dark. However, I’m still baffled by the overwhelming angst robbing me of sleep on many of those childhood nights. Humankind’s most common fears, according to various studies, include the following: fear of being socially unacceptable; a fear of heights; a fear of bugs, snakes or spiders; a fear of closed spaces; a fear of flying; a fear of the dark (or what might be hiding in the shadows); fear of getting a disease; fear of blood; fear of violent weather and a fear of

dying. In Matthew 8:23-26, we read about the frightened disciples during a perilous storm on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was at their side, but they let their circumstances dictate their fear. While Jesus slept peacefully in the boat, a storm tossed the wooden craft in the rough waters. In a panic, they cried for Jesus. “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” When Jesus awoke, He didn’t instantly calm the storm. Instead, Jesus asked His followers, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Only after this rebuke did Jesus calm the wind and waves. How often do we want God to fix our problems immediately? We expect instant relief from the raging waters. Yet, it’s in the midst of trials that God wants to deepen our faith, trusting Him and growing in Him before He intervenes. No matter how dark our circumstances appear, God wants us to follow in faith. Dr. Michael Youssef says, “The relationship between faith and fear is like a seesaw. When one is up, the other is down. So when we allow fear to rise, our faith will decline. But the opposite is true as well. When we increase our faith, our fear will fall.”

• • • 7 Questions For Meaningful Conversation With Believers• • • by Steve Burchett We’ve got to move dialogue with believers beyond a superficial level if we are going to really know and encourage one another. But where do we even start? Here are seven questions you might ask. They might be useful in a variety of settings, such as when you have someone (or a family) over for supper, when spending time at the park, or when you’re on a long car ride together. 1. When would you say that you became a follower of Jesus? This question has a way of bringing a needed sobriety and kingdom focus to the time together that might otherwise have been marked by shallowness. Though all believers listening in will enjoy hearing about God’s saving grace, this is especially strategic for any lost people (or those seeking assurance of salvation) in the gathering to hear. 2. What was your family life like growing up? The answer might be an inspiring story about God-honoring parents and faithfulness to the local church. Or, the person’s answer might reveal past darkness and sadness that only God could overcome. You’ll probably even learn

something about the person’s past that helps you to understand some of his or her weaknesses or strengths in the present. 3. How did you meet each other? This question is obviously geared toward a husband and wife. You might also ask about the day they became engaged. The dialogue that results from this question typically includes s o m e l a u g h t e r, but I’ve seen it lead to serious reflections a b o u t marriage— e v e n current difficulties the couple is having! 4. What has been your pattern for Bible intake and prayer when it has seemed most meaningful to you? I experienced a conversation based on this question this past New Year’s Eve. A few of us were gathered in a living room, waiting for midnight to come,

WILLIAM HOON GARDENING

and we at least an hour talking about this important subject. Current practices were shared, and better days from the past were remembered. It was both convicting and motivating.

The aim of this question isn’t to talk negatively about that “ridiculous” or “mean” neighbor. Rather, the goal is to eventually talk about reaching lost neighbors with the gospel.

5. Is there a sermon (or a Christian leader) that the Lord really used in your life in an especially powerful way? I agree with Matt Smethurst of the G o s p e l Coalition who once tweeted, “I don’t remember 99% of the meals I’ve eaten, but they’ve kept me alive. God uses faithful, forgettable sermons to beautify his bride.” Yet there is still the 1% of meals that you look back and say, “Wow, that was an incredible steak!” In a similar way, most people remember a portion of a message that the Lord used for their good.

7. What is a great burden in your life right now? Every believer is burdened about something. For example, they might be troubled about lost relatives, a rebellious child, work problems, or the state of Christianity in the country. This question is an opportunity to really hear the person’s heart. Listen carefully, interact further, possibly share a great burden of yours, and then pray together.

6. What are your neighbors like?

Before You’re Together The point isn’t to work through all these questions in one get-together. Rather, be ready with at least one or two. Sometimes, all it takes is one good question to start a meaningful, God-honoring conversation. “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:4) Find more free articles at www. You Might Need Marriage Counseling—Especially If You Think You Don’t by Portia Collins the Gospel Coalition After giving birth to my daughter, I just didn’t feel like my normal self. I was grumpy, easily annoyed, and mentally and physically exhausted. I was still reeling from a traumatic pregnancy, and some dear friends suggested I go to counseling to talk it out. I was eager to attend my first counseling session because I thought it would be a prime opportunity to vent about my current challenges. I went in ready to discuss me and my feelings, so when my counselor suggested we include my husband in the remaining counseling sessions, I was taken aback. I balked at the idea of him attending. We don’t need counseling, I thought. Like many others, my husband and I assumed that seeing a counselor implied something was inherently wrong with our marriage. Neither of us wanted to feel like we were failing at being good spouses, nor did we want others to believe our marriage was “on the rocks.” And yet, because we both desired a better marriage, we committed to biweekly sessions with our counselor. Overcoming the Taboo As a Christian woman of color, I’ve noticed that marriage counseling can be taboo subject among both the Christian

growth and healthier relationships. I believed counseling would always be too expensive; I was unaware of the mentalhealth benefits offered by many employers. I was wary of most counselors because I didn’t want to be influenced wrongly; I didn’t know if could find a Christian counselor who shared my convictions and upheld a biblical worldview.

and the African American communities. I believe this stigma thrives for several reasons. 1. Self-Help Culture You’ve got to pull yourself out of this. Stop being dramatic; you don’t need counseling. You can help yourself and save the money. At one time or another, I’ve heard counseling dismissed in all these ways. Such exhortations reveal that many of us have a self-centered view when it comes to growth. Our pride leads us to believe we don’t need help. Instead of viewing counseling as a mark of wisdom, we’re prone to view it as a blemish of weakness.

2. Fear Sadly, our reluctance to receive help often reveals deep fear. We fear we’re beyond repair. In years past, I doubted the effectiveness of counseling simply because I magnified my struggles so they seemed insurmountable. In my mind, my problems were too big for even a professional to fix. 3. Misunderstandings I didn’t grow up in an environment where counseling was regularly discussed or promoted, so I had many misconceptions. I viewed counseling as a response to things gone wrong, as opposed to a precursor for personal

Humility Receives Help Initially, because of these misunderstandings, my husband and I both hesitated at the thought of marriage counseling. We were proud. Extremely proud. But during each session, we got a heavy dose of humility as we learned about specific areas in our marriage that needed work. As humans, our lack of humility can be traced back to Genesis 3. The fall of man immediately followed our prideful rebellion against God in the Garden of Eden. But in his infinite grace and mercy, he didn’t abandon us. He rescued us by sending Christ to save us from sin. But to receive the benefits of Christ’s sacrifice, we must humbly repent. At the heart of embracing the gospel is humility. God resists the proud; only the humble will receive his grace (James 4:6). This

Continued From Page 14: "...Marriage Counseling..." point is central to all of Christian life: We must be humbled. We must recognize our need for help. Our marriages are no different. Marriage Wellness These days, our marriagecounseling sessions resemble a routine wellness appointment. Typically, when someone goes to the doctor for a wellness appointment, the doctor simply checks that everything is working properly, but sometimes he or she will find something requiring a bit more attention. This is the case with us. Although we often feel like everything is fine in our marriage, through our counselor we are able to uncover areas of our marriage that require help. Now, when my friends discuss their marriages with me, I don’t hesitate to recommend they see a counselor who is godly and possesses a biblical worldview. My husband and I view marriage counseling as a grace that’s beautifully reshaping our marriage. Our lessons in humility began with taking the first step to pursue counseling, and they continue with each session. Our commitment to continue counseling serves as a simple yet grand reminder of our lifelong commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another.

DC Comics Cancels ‘Blasphemous’ Jesus Series after 220,000 Sign Petition by Michael Foust | DC Comics says it is canceling a series about Jesus that many Christians labeled heresy, although the writer implied on social media that the series may resurface elsewhere. Jesus coming back to Earth to fight evil alongside Sun-Man. The series plot described Christ as having limitations in knowledge and power. “Witness the return of Jesus Christ, as He is sent on a most holy mission by God to learn what it takes to be the true messiah of mankind by becoming roommates with the world's favorite savior: the allpowerful superhero Sun-Man, the Last Son of Krispex!” the plot summary for the first issue read. “But when Christ returns to Earth, he's shocked to discover what has become of his gospel -- and now, he aims to set the record straight.” The plot for the second issue was just as problematic: “An unexpected death leads to God showing off his heavenly kingdom to the son He wished He had, while the Son He has catches up on the earthly plane.” More than 220,000 people signed a petition urging DC to cancel it. The first issue was scheduled to be released on March 6. Scripture teaches that Jesus is God and thus, all-knowing and all-powerful.

Newsarama.com reported that DC has told retailers it is cancelling the series. The series writer, Mark Russell, confirmed the cancellation and said DC had given him the rights. ‘The: DC/Vertigo’s cancellation of the orders for Second Coming, just so you know, DC did not do anything untoward to me,” Russell wrote on Twitter. “I asked for the rights back and they gracefully agreed. They’ve been a pleasure to work with and it will still be released, albeit with a different publisher.” Prior to the cancellation, Russell had given more details about the plot: Jesus doesn’t know everything that is taking place on Earth until He arrives. “God was so upset with the fact that he

got crucified the last time that he wouldn’t even let him look through the celestial keyhole at Earth to keep up,” Russell said. “He still gets to talk to people when they come to Heaven so he has a rough idea of what’s going on down there. He doesn’t know how sideways things have gone until he’s come down to Earth and sees it for himself.” The petition to DC described the plot as blasphemous. “Would DC Comics publish similar content about other religious leaders, such as Mohammed or Buddha? This content is inappropriate and blasphemous. It should be immediately pulled from your publishing schedule,” it read.

Continued From Page 12: "Is Your Faith Greater... " Youssef adds, “Jesus wasn't talking about our saving faith, but our daily living faith. Our saving faith remains constant, but our daily living faith rises and falls according to the strength of our relationship with God. When we are not in constant intimacy with God, the first storm that hits will create fear and panic. When we give God the crumbs of our time and attention, our faith and understanding in Him will weaken.” When we choose to walk closely with and trust God daily, our faith will overcome our fears. Gateway church announced last Sunday that they have opened up a new campus, and it’s at a nearby prison. According to Relevant Magazine, Lead pastor Robert Morris for Gateway megachurch in Dallas, Texas, announced during Sunday’s service last week that a new campus had been planted at the Coffield Unit maximum security prison in Anderson County. Fox News reports that 650 inmates attended the first Coffield Gateway service in November and since then over 500 men have dedicated their lives to Jesus. “At Gateway Church, we’re all about people because God is all about people," Morris told Fox News. "Many of the

men and women inside prison have been forgotten by society, but we want them to know we love them and God loves them, and they are our brothers and sisters in Christ." According to Fox News, the Coffield campus is set up to run like any other campus and gives inmates the opportunity to serve. Inmates are tasked with greeting service attendees, being ushers, operating audio and visual equipment, forming a worship team, and staffing the service, the outlet reports. The campus is pastored by Stephen Wilson who is an ex-offender. After getting out, Wilson turned his life around and went to seminary school which led him to share the gospel in prisons. Wilson told Fox that the plan for this ministry started seven years ago, and now it has finally happened.

If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that God can provide through Jesus Christ and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. For help, questions, or more information, contact us at The Ambassador or any of the churches listed on page 3.

It’s Time To Cut The Cord by Jon Skillman A 2018 Gallup poll showed Americans equally split on the issue of abortion. This begs the question…Why are half of American tax payers forced to fund an organization we oppose? Planned Parenthood, the leading abortion provider in the nation, receives over a third of its income from US tax payers (approx. $530 million per year). Planned Parenthood is a 501c tax exempt organization that not only receives tax dollars but also donates millions (through supporters and a powerful PAC) to certain political campaigns. Check this out…in 2018 Planned Parenthood donated $528,205 to democrat congressional candidates and a whopping $000,000 to republicans. In 2016, our then democratic senatorial candidate, Kamala Harris received $81,000 from PP. But here’s the corker: Virginia Democratic Governor Ralph Northam (black face aside) received over 1.9 million from PP. But wait, there’s more. Northam is a pediatric neurologist who recently argued in favor of the very latest of late term abortion, even to the point of infanticide. He must have taken the Hypocritical Oath rather than the Hippocratic because the original Hippocratic Oath states: “Similarly I will not give a woman an abortive remedy.” Strangely enough, that language is not found in the “modern” version of the oath (revised 1964). However, the modern version does state: “Above all, I will not play at God.”

In an effort to appease prolife tax payers, the government stipulated that tax dollars could not be used to fund abortions. While this may be technically true, it is actually a sham. Here’s a short parable to illustrate why. A mother gives her son two dollars to go to the store and buy milk and bread (it was a long time ago). The boy puts the two dollars in his right pocket. On the way out the door, his father hands him a dollar to buy himself something, but stipulates the dollar is not to be spent on candy. The boy puts that dollar in his left pocket. At the checkout counter the boy pays for the milk and bread using one dollar from his right pocket and the dollar in his left. He then buys two candy bars using the remaining dollar in his right pocket. Moral: It doesn’t matter which pocket Planned Parenthood put our tax dollars it still buys candy. The state of New York just passed the most radical and frightening abortion law ever. It permits aborting a baby even into the natural birth process. This isn’t a law…it is a license to kill. Other states are in the process of passing similar legislation. I shudder to think what our regressive legislature will come up with. You can bet Planned Parenthood will have some influence on the outcome. Church! It’s time to be heard! Silence shouts out consent. It’s time we cut the cord and defund Planned Parenthood!

Let Us Entertain You Last year, we hosted our very first “quiet fundraiser”, The Ambassador Spaghetti Dinner and Variety Show.. I call it quiet because we didn’t have a keynote speaker talking about the value of the Ambassador. It was really meant to be a fun night of laughs and highquality entertainment. The feedback was incredible. People loved it and asked me to do it again this year! So, with my arm barely twisted, we are doing just that. On Friday, April 12th, we’ll be having our 2nd (Annual?) Ambassador Dinner & Variety Show. It will again be hosted at Adventure Church (Thanks PG!) and we will be having great food, music, and lots of fun including our “every table plays” Game Show! There will also be great prizes to win! Add to that a few surprises for this year and you will be glad you came. We only have approximately 24 tables and we sold out last year before

Seth Halpern - Editor people know how much fun they would have. So, we expect to sell out at $150 for a table of eight. If you don’t have 7 or 8 people, consider partnering with someone else to share a table. We don’t want you to miss out. It should really be a fun time AND you’ll be helping the ministry of The Ambassador! For questions or to reserve/purchase a table, please email me at editor@ ambassadornewspaper.com or call me at 530-933-1385. See you on April 12th if not before!
