As we approach the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana on November 16, we are inviting you to make a visit with us to El Vedado district in our first issue of 2019 and discover parts of its valuable architectural heritage, including the Cristóbal Colón Cemetery, rightly considered to be an exceptional open-air museum. It goes without saying that the Historic Center of Old Havana, nucleus of the city, is focus of our attention. Hence, among other topics, we include mention of Volume Four of the editorial series Para no olvidar [Lest We Forget], written by Eusebio Leal Spengler. The book is a recollection of the efforts undertaken by the Office of the City Historian towards the restoration of Havana’s Historic Center. We also take a look at the rebirth of the former Colegio de San Pablo, school founded by the Cuban poet Rafael María de Mendive, and where the Apostle of Cuban Independence, José Martí, studied.
