Once again it is rambling time!

Janet has been working away for the past three weeks putting the catalogue together with the assistance of Amanda, Caroline, Grace, and Steffi. I don’t think any of us realised when we started on this adventure how much was involved in getting it all together, but it is now like a well-oiled machine! A machine that I keep well clear of until called upon! Despite increasing issues with deliveries from many of our suppliers there has been an amazing amount of work done on new designs. As well as launches from our existing partners we are always on the lookout for new brands that offer something new to show you. This time we are delighted to be introducing the iconic and totally stunning Murano Glass, something rarely available in the UK, as well as an eye-catching range of silver from Sheffield based Carr’s Silver.

Finding the best quality art glass would in normal times have meant a fabulous trip to Italy but in these unusual times it was our imagination that took us to Murano. One day we hope to visit and see how this fantastic glassware is made but, in the meantime, we will have to rely on the pictures.

Our first delivery from Murano is due shortly and I can’t wait to see the items in the flesh.

We all hope that Her Majesty is going to be fit enough to attend some of the many celebrations planned for her Platinum Jubilee, but I think we will all understand that at the age of 96 she may well not feel she can attend them all.

Interest in this unique occasion has certainly been growing in recent weeks and we have seen unprecedented demand from all over the world for the ranges that we have put together. A small indication of the worldwide admiration for The Queen. We are delighted to have a new range from Royal Crown Derby, no Royal event would be complete without something from this iconic British brand.

Halcyon Days have also added more to their range as the initial pieces have almost all sold out.

I know that delivery on the initial range has been delayed but rest assured they are not far away now.

I have known the Carr brothers, Richard and Andrew, for many years and so I am pleased that we have been able to offer you some of their high-quality Sheffield silver. The hallmarked Sterling Silver photo frame is quite superb.

When I sit down to start my ramblings, (which I always hope are read by other than my mother!)

I often stare out of the window for inspiration. Never having got an “A” for creative writing, but never being lost for words once started, I just have to find that little spark to set me off! Looking through the catalogue, and out of the window, spring is certainly just round the corner.

The daffodils are out and after its winter rest the grass has started to show signs of new growth, and rather too much moss! There was still a white frost here this morning, but the blue sky and sunshine certainly give a hint of a new season. Janet has found some wonderful spring and Easter pieces; bees, chickens and even a free Easter Egg. I can assure you that after much in-house testing, they are just as I remember from my youth!

Interest in Royal Crown Derby paperweights is still very strong and judging by the demand for our pre-loved collections there are lots of you still looking to get hold of the pieces that you missed. We continue to try and find interesting and unusual pieces as well as some that I know from my day were not as popular and are therefore quite rare.

We have new pieces coming in all the time and although we try to reserve a good selection for each catalogue the website is the place to keep an eye on. If you do not have access to the internet and would like a regular update on what we have please drop us a line.

You will find a new copy of our Goviers At Home catalogue in your envelope. This section is proving a great source of gift ideas for many of our customers as well as an opportunity to treat yourselves. As a lover of many things French we have been talking to Andrée Jardin for many months and have finally added their range of superb brushes to the selection. I can certainly vouch for almost all of the items in this section, nothing beats actually using the product.

I hope that once again there are things here to delight and tempt you.

Sovereigns were first commissioned by Henry VII and the first one came into circulation on 28th October, 1498.



The 2022 half sovereign includes a special design only being issued for the Platinum Jubilee.



The Coat of Arms belongs to HM Queen Elizabeth II a new version has been created for 2022 by the Royal Mint.



The shield is surrounded by the Order of the Garter, the text in French broadly translates to ‘Evil be to him who evil thinks thereof’. The Order of the Garter is an ancient order of Knighthood of which the Queen is Sovereign. The crowned lion of England and the silver Unicorn of Scotland appear on each side.



The current Queen Elizabeth II Head appears on the front of the half sovereign.



The half sovereign is struck by the Royal Mint, responsible for striking English coinage since 896AD. Most of that time was spent at the Tower of London, in the mid 1960’s moving to their present home in Llantrisant, South Wales.



The half sovereign is 22 carat gold or 91.66% pure fine gold.



The pendant has been crafted from precious sterling silver, plated with platinum



These virtually flawless Amethyst gemstones were mined in Brazil, where they were cut and polished by hand.



The pendant has been handmade in Birmingham’s Historic Jewellery Quarter, the home of England’s jewellery crafts since 1650. Each Amethyst has been selected for it’s intensity of colour, 36 gemstones per pendant, 1.5 carats of Amethyst.

The gemstones have been selected and set by hand by a master gemsmith who has been working with gemstones for more than 40 years. Known as the ‘Royal’ Gemstone as it features in the Crown Jewels also royal jewellery collections throughout Europe for many centuries. The colour also reflects the purple in the Coronation robes.



The pendant is presented on an 18’’/45cm sterling silver curb chain, plated with platinum. (Other chain sizes can be accommodated, please ask.).

 The 1953 sixpence was the first to bear Queen Elizabeth II’s Head. It also marked the first year of the design on the reverse of the coin.

 First issued in 1551 the sixpence coin became the nation’s favourite over more than 400 years.

 The last time any sixpence was struck was 1970, they continued to be legal tender until 30/06/1980.

For Queen Elizabeth, Treetops and Sagana Lodge were chosen for a relaxing, wildlife-watching pause in Kenya during what was set to be a long royal tour of Australia and New Zealand, but destiny had other plans.

This remarkable collection holds scenes from the natural world where the crown of our greatest and longest serving monarch began to shimmer under the heat of the African sun.

When Prince Philip married Princess Elizabeth more than 70 years ago, he gave up everything for the woman he loved.

He abandoned his Danish and Greek royal titles, and even his surname to become Britain’s longest serving consort. As such, senior designer Rachel Bishop felt that the flower named Clematis Prince Phillip, should stand as a design in itself. Each petal holds gently-waving edges, coloured mauvey-blue with a pink-red bar through the middle and all meeting in a central crown of brown-tipped stamens, set against a pure ivory ground. The rich colours of the petals wave like flags in jubilation as they celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Beside a trout stream, under the foothills of Mount Kenya, it was at Sagana Lodge, that the news of King George VI’s death was broken to HRH Queen Elizabeth by her husband, Prince Philip.

The Lily-of-the-Valley is one of the most delicate flowers of all. Nicola Slaney’s bell-shaped blooms, capture Her Majesty’s early years with the single flower gently bending to one side with its bells on a flowering stalk offering a floral bow, to represent the thousands of bows the young Princess Elizabeth would receive as Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II over the coming years – bows of respect, affection, loyalty and love.

On February 5th 1952, Princess Elizabeth, then 25, spent the afternoon with her cine-camera capturing a herd of rhinos from her elevated vantage point above the Treetops waterhole in Aberdare National Park. That night, as she slept cradled in a fig tree, she actually ascended to her throne. This is a dramatic Moorcroft design.

A lone rhino calf sits as two others sup at the waterhole while fig trees rise like cumulonimbus clouds lifting Treetops towards the distant outline of Mount Kenya, known across the world as the mountain of brightness.

MOORCROFT • ART POTTERY • WILLIAM 150 COLLECTION MOORCROFT WILLIAM 150 COLLECTION The WILLIAM 150 collection celebrates the birth of William Moorcroft, one of the most gifted potters of his generation. Whilst the emerging Art Nouveau designs of the continent inspired the young Moorcroft in terms of shape and design, it was to be in his home in the Potteries where he would perfect his ceramic alchemy, during his first job in 1897, as a designer for James Macintyre & Co. There followed the arrival of gold medals from across the Atlantic in St Louis in 1908 to Europe, including a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition in1925. In 1913 William launched a company under his own name, Moorcroft, and the company we know and love today, was firmly established. Each piece of this fantastic collection echoes the hallmarks of William’s most renowned work.

Anemone was a design introduced by William, though it was not produced on a large scale. As if sprung from the tears of Aphrodite herself, mysterious blooms of Pleione purple, and fiery, deep-scarlet anemones orbit like planets around a brilliant-white central bloom to make Anemone Jubilation. A shy, and unassuming flower in pale colour varieties, Vicky’s blooms make a statement in brighter colours.

Glimpses of William Moorcroft’s gifts as an art potter, first appeared through his unusual gilded Aurelian Ware. These inaugural designs, inspired by the Japanese Imari palette, were transfer printed with enamelled decoration in vibrant reds, blues and gold. Unmistakable and not transfer-printed, Aurelian Ware regenerates with a spectacular daisy in full bloom with brilliant white petals that calmly glide out of the roundel like billowed sails, and comes complete with a blue and white Victorian geometric design on its base and rim.

William Moorcroft’s Claremont design, circa 1905, was so popular it stayed in production for over forty years. Vicky's Carmine Claremont holds a distinctly crisp, and autumnal palette, allowing the sharp colours of a woodland crop of fungi, flaunting their gills like petticoats, to take you into an exciting new season of Claremont. Rather than applying a flambe glaze, as would have been done in William’s era, Carmine Claremont is painted with metallic oxides that create a flambe colour palette for us to enjoy.

Boasting a rich flambé glaze, William Moorcroft's Waratah design was specifically made for export to Australia from the 1930s, with examples still held by the National Museum of Australia. Vicky’s Waratah Jewel colourway is bejewelled in ruby, and garnet - a crown of Waratah flowers in tribute to William.

Daffodil designs are one of the oldest Moorcroft blooms, first making their debut in Florian Ware (1897-1913) in the days when William Moorcroft was employed by James Macintyre & Co. Designer Emma Bossons has re-imagined an old daffodil design holding shallow cupped soft-yellow trumpets with reflexed petals around the rim as sword-tipped foliage curls around the base and up the slender art nouveau shape. Daffodils unfurl into a shower of gold at the base of the vase, with the neck holding foliage that curls like periscopes peeping up from the ground.

Like William Moorcroft, Moorcroft’s senior designer, Rachel Bishop has succeeded in banishing the Java and Indo-Chinese greens found in many Bourgeoisie Art Nouveau peacock feather designs. She has created a unique and appealing colour palette of her own emphasizing the soft, naturalistic sheen of the complex Moorcroft glazes: azure blue on midnight blue, white on dove grey, and elegant, pale, tawny-browns.

This shape, complete with fluted rim, has only been used twice before in Moorcroft’s design history. Shape was always important to William Moorcroft and there are examples of William’s Florian Pansy designs, from 1902, using bulbous form vases. In this design, the flower head, not the bulb, is celebrated with leaves that appear to float as lightly as petals at the base of the design before erupting into blousy,distinctive blooms mimicking the ruffled edges of the vase itself.

William Moorcroft’s Hesperian Ware included designs depicting fish, notably, carp, seaweed and shells. Colours varied from the typical Florian Blue and included greens, yellows and salmon hues sometimes with gold accents.

Hispalian utilises accent colours and design to create an Art Nouveau underwater world, tinged with the salmon pinks of the traditional Hesperian Ware. On the 15th April 1902 E. Watling, of retailer Osier, wrote to Mr Moorcroft having seen his fish design to suggest a name for it - “How does Hispalian strike you? (taken from the name of an old Persian city).” The final name was to become Hesperian (from the Garden of Hesperides), but almost 120 years to the date of this historic letter, Hispalian finally makes its world debut.

In 1898, Florian Ware was born. These were the first designs identified as Moorcroft, complete with raised tubelined outlines, now deemed a heritage skill. Next pieces were carefully hand painted with the small handful of limited colours William Moorcroft had available to him.

One of William’s most famous Florian Ware designs, was Cornflower. Bleuet bursts into life with an abundance of golden cornflowers. with vast spectres of Sicilian red oranges and grapefruit-yellow. In this design Nicola Slaney drapes tiny forget-me-knot like flowers in hues of light-grey to true-blue over the sacred cornflower, as if giving William a garland of flowers.

Florian Iris, with traditional blue-on-blue engobe, has delighted Moorcroft enthusiasts from as early as 1898. In the Victorian-era, VICTORIAN it was usual to send a blue iris with a letter IRIS that brought good news. Victorian Iris Designed by with its blue ruffled petals against a white Kerry Goodwin ground, encased in an inky-frame of H 25cm moonlight-blue, is certainly good news.

Scilla verna, commonly known as spring squill, is a plant native to Western Europe. The dainty perennials bring a violet-bluish haze to the coastal cliffs from March onwards as these star-like flowers thrive in wild places where winds beat the cliffs with spray. Particularly found on the west coast of Great Britain, it shelters in short dry grassy areas, near to the sea, bringing early colour to the coastline.

Not unlike Kerry’s grandmother, orange lilies stand out from the crowd. The energy and warmth from their petals colours and form, burn and curl, like flaming ambers. Lilies are also the birth flower for May, the month of Kerry’s own mother’s birth.

A young, slender woman, is captured with her hair displayed neatly to expose the elegant form of her neck. In all its youthful perfection, the ladies face is turned from your view, as she peers into the crowd before her and at the tall, elegant buildings in Dublin’s fair city. All eyes are on Roseanna and not simply the flowers she sells. On the reverse of the vase, captured under a street lamp, Roseanna appears cloaked in black and with a hunched-over posture from years of pushing her flower barrow. Her hair is covered by a sombre hat.

Yet there is something more. the old flower seller appears to be giving a final salute to the flowers, her gaze, no longer towards the city or the people within its streets, broad and narrow, but to the flurry of colourful tulips, as bright orange lilies rise to cover her bowed head. Inspired by Kerry’s own grandmother, The Flower Seller, is more than an enigma, she is a deeply personal depiction in art.

and contentment, the Old Imari Solid Gold Band Seahorse is designed in striking blue and red colours with lavish 22 carat gold decoration. To add intrigue, there is a hidden historical reference in the tail showing the number ‘11’ on one side and ‘28’ on the reverse. The original 1128 Old Imari pattern number is synonymous with Royal Crown Derby history, recorded in pattern book number 2, c. 1882.
