Background Analysis Textile, leather, ceramic, wood, food production are the key inco mes of Dharavi resident s for living. M o s t people have believed that education can change their faith for better life quality, however, if we can examine and upgrade the working condition to more efficient way which can help their economic situation as well.

Building Density P eop le live in different areas about the architecture.

Population The same quantity of p eop le cause different situations.

Greening Rate Dharavi’s circumstance,especially its proportion of trees is much smaller than that of city’s.

Infrastructure Only a long and large water pipe occupies the street,by comparison with the completed traffic networks.

Vocation There are v ar ious k inds of occupation between Dharavi and Mo mb ai, mos t of them (quantity) are b elong to the second industry.

People need better material conditions, especially in Dharavi, Bombay. There are many pieces of poor areas in India, but in Dharavi there is a special advantage: Industry. People can make full use of it to create better living conditions by their work. This goodness will change Dharavi's regional structure which means industries will lead the relationship of production, even influencing everyone's income. As a result, I add a model that can teach local people to learn different and abundant manual skills. Teaching social skills can not only let more people solve the basic problem of food and cloth, but also make a small group of people walk ahead. I hope Dharavi's people rely on their own hand to change their birthplace's environnment instead of leaving.

Living Situation A child quietly asleep in his comfortable bed,for the other side, a poor kid only sleeps in the block with the ground and a brick.

Differences In Culture The stable building with various cultural spirits,however,slum’s people teach and communicate together, includ ing a Diwali Festival.

LOCATION DIVISION

Material Reuse Through reprocessing and refining of waste materials such as garbage and excreta in the site, which we can have new energy for the site production.

Living Conditions B a s e d on thei r l i vi n g conditions, we can di vide the house into three types.

The first one is permanent house, the s econd one is semi-permanent house and third one is illegal house. All the houses have problems.

Industry Analysis We classify 6 key industries for our des ign objectives, whi ch can help us bui ld the industrial chain. By the power of internet, we would like to improve the economy of Dharavi by m ak i ng an appli cati o n and creati ng social media account.

Mode Of Education The mode includes 3 parts: main indus try, recycling indus try and tourism. B y e d u c a t i n g w o r k e r s and setting different wo rk i ng categories, we can upgrade the facto ry m an ag em ent and promote the efficiency of working system.

Refining process

Tenon-and-mortise structure

We reuse the materials what we collect from the site, by processing, breaking the elements. We compose new, stable and Corrosion-resistant bricks, which can support underground space and residential structures.

By using some common mortise and tenon structures, the newly synthesized material would be composed by 4 different types of structures for stabilizing the underground space.

Leather Mill The interior is divided into 6 spaces which based on the workers’ daily working procedure.

Interior Space According to the mode of education, we design 2 technical spaces and visitors can see the operation process from 2nd floor.

Interior Space Acco rding to the education mo de in the factory, each space we divide into different levels for studying and working. When products are finished, workers can pack and put them into the van through chain conveyor to the selling points.

Evolution of Site Planning

Psychological Behavior People’s activities are divided into four aspects: stalls, market, mill and residence. By observing the local people’s living conditions, we provide 20 different types of active spaces with local materials. In the new sites, we remain the original living habits but providing the comfortable urban spatial scale, and eliminate the negative factors, such as dirty, mess and crowded environment in old Dharavi. We want to make people feel happier than before.
