Manager’s Report
After struggling for the last 3 years it is pleasing to inform the members of our club that we have made a trading profit for the first time in over 20 years. As you know when I came here and found the club financials and the club in general been totally mismanaged for all those previous years, the challenge was before me to put systems in place to get us back on track. Our auditor Glenn Sullivan and I set about putting a plan in place to have us back in this position in 3 years. This we have achieved with a lot of hard work and long hours that I have put in to succeed. I had the full support from our President Sue McLean and the executive of the day, who instructed me to run the club as if it was my own business. Without this direction we would never have got out of the position the club was in. Many changes were made, too many to mention and I became the most unpopular person in the club, but as I told members and committee to have patience and it will all come together eventually. Moving the gaming, TAB and operating from one bar meant our biggest saving and reduced staff to half from when I started. With DB coming on board and putting in a new beer system which cost them $14,000.00 was the beginning of a new relationship with the club. They doubled our Hecta-Litre rebate and this year we received $3264.39 an increase of $1300.00 the year before. Thanks to all the members who have supported the Monteith’s brand and made this possible. We were hit with the Covid 19 virus in late March and it only affected the last two weeks trading so our financials still stood up well and could have been better. The club for the first time since I took over has all its taxes paid up to date and debtors now down to weekly payments. Gaming was a big contributor to our profits with gaming been up $80,000.00 and improving all the time. I also leased out office space upstairs and this brings in $13,000.00 per year. Our staff are very good, and all love their jobs serving and looking after everyone and support me all the way. Special mention to Rose running the kitchen and her team, she goes the extra mile to keep all of you happy. Also, to Morgan for the huge effort she puts in at beg and call to all members and sub clubs whenever they want something. Morgan has also taken over all the book work of payments and wages, dealing with the bank and IRD which was something she knew anything about 2 years ago. Three club members I would like to thank very much for all the work they have done for the club and saved us a huge amount of money for their services are, Dave Moulden, Gary Thomson and Kieran Burns. Because we are trading better and the club getting into a better position doesn’t mean we stop now, this is just the beginning, as we have new projects ahead of us to keep improving our club. Thanks to all the members that have supported me all through these tough times, and to those that didn’t believe in me , just think I am still coming to my club and able to enjoy our great facility with my friends, play my sports, have a meal, a gamble and quiet drink.
