Local community leader Angelina Bonifacio and the Italian Migrants of Ryde Committee have worked tirelessly to produce the highly anticipated publication, “A OneWay Ticket-Italian Migrants of Ryde Anthology” Supported by ‘The City of Ryde’. The book is available to be ordered online or purchased in person at an upcoming book launch in May.
The stories of Italian migrants settling in Sydney’s North Western community of Ryde is an important history that reflects the journey of many Italians around Australia and indeed the world. Laced with historical photographs and personal accounts, Italians from all walks of life will relate to the Mass Migration from ‘il stivale’ during the Great Depression and The Great War to Australia. The book focuses on those who escaped a challenging existence that included poverty, genocide and the fall of Rome to Nazi Germany and U.S. Forces.
The book focuses on the many individuals and families that settled in the agrarian areas in and around Ryde where they created a new life for themselves and contributed to creating a new community. The Italian contribution to the development of the City of Ryde through market gardening, the establishment of commercial retail properties and the creation and support of local Parishes and Schools, is a story that is replicated around Australia. Through photographs and stories of those involved, we

The Italian Migrants of Ryde Group hope to provide copies of the book to Libraries and Schools so that these stories can be enjoyed by generations to come. The Lady of Grace Fraternity and Italian Migrants of Ryde invite you all to St Anthony's Church, 54 Agincourt Road, Marsfield for a thanksgiving Mass on Friday 19th May at 7.30PM followed by light refreshments and a book launch where you can meet the curator and purchase a copy of the book.
