Current Activities School is finally in session! The students of EPC Julius Nyerere and EPC Harrumua are studying in the TLC (temporary learning centers) near our construction works, while we finish up the last few weeks of our program. Roofing work and concrete slabs are well underway and the WaSH septic tank foundation is complete at both schools. In late January, the team held first aid trainings for volunteers and staff and they continue with weekly English classes for the students and local community members. Earlier this month, we held our first Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training and 139 community members participated. Two of the biggest risk factors facing the community are malaria and extreme food insecurity, so it was positive to start conversations about how to mitigate such risks. The team also recently initiated a trash pick-up event in Lamego village where they’re based. The area has limited waste collection infrastructure, so many were surprised by the activity, but over 30 community members soon joined the effort.
Community Voices “O progresso está andando muito bem - e eu gosto de ver as mulheres trabalhando aqui todos os dias. Elas são fortes para fazer esse tipo de trabalho.” - The progress is going very well- and I like to see the women working here everyday. They are strong to do this type of work. Anabela, Pedagogical Director Julius Nyerere Primary School
