Current Activities After a pause over the winter and spring, All Hands and Hearts returned to St. John the Baptist Parish in May to repair hurricane damaged homes. We are thrilled to be working closely again with the community’s grassroots Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG), which still has a list of roughly 500 households needing hurricane repairs. Our team has been doubling down in the humid summer heat to get these folks back “home.” Repair activities vary because every home was damaged differently; our goal is to perform basic interior repairs that ensure survivors can once again live their lives from a secure and functional home base. Many homes still need mold sanitizing treatment. From there, we install new insulation before moving on to drywall and finishing the walls up with a coat of primer. Also on the menu: door installation, trim and subfloor repairs and installation of water damage-resilient vinyl flooring.
Program Spotlight In August, we had a father-son team join us. (See photo, left) “My wife Neha and I have supported All Hands and Hearts the past 5+ years. My son and I just completed a meaningful week in the field in support of Hurricane Ida efforts. It’s great to see that donor dollars are effectively and efficiently used by AHAH! We will continue to contribute to this professional organization…through our time, effort and donations!” -Dharmesh + son Milan Dharmesh is already planning another volunteer stint with his daughter and son on our Kentucky Flood Relief program!
