As we approach the holiday season, our Hurricane Harvey relief programs in Houston and Coastal Bend are getting in the spirit, finding new ways to welcome more families into warm homes. This month, we’re excited to highlight our work with Rockport Hands of Hope, Habitat for Humanity and the Navajo Nation, in partnership with whom we are working on 24 homes. By emboldening the skills of each organization, we’re each specializing on a particular phase of work to accelerate the completion of these homes for their families. The holiday spirit doesn’t stop there! When they’re not hard at work in homes, our volunteers and staff have been hitting the pavement to distribute turkeys to Houston families, and serving hundreds of meals at the 76th Annual Jim Salem Dinner in Coastal Bend. We know that every step we take together to care for our communities adds up.
Community Voices Recovery from Harvey seemed impossible for the McIntyre family. After losing insurance money to contractor fraud, two years passed of being repeatedly turned away due to challenges with the land title. By working with partners at legal aid, All Hands and Hearts found a path for the impossible to become possible, and Site Supervisor Kolby welcomed Josefina McIntyre home this month (pictured left). “You don’t ask for anything in return for the work — you are special people. I am excited and forever grateful to you for all you have done.” Josefina McIntyre, Coastal Bend homeowner
