Current Activities We are excited to announce the launch of our new Nepal program, in Makwanpur district, where we are rebuilding Shree Manakamana Basic School. Makwanpur is one of the most earthquake affected districts, so we’re glad to be there to support the local communities recover from the devastating earthquake of 2015 .
VOLUNTEER DAYS
CLASSROOMS IN PROGRESS
During these first few weeks, staff and volunteer orientations have been carried out in Kathmandu to welcome the new team for Makwanpur. After the orientation, the team headed towards Makwanpur after which we did our first foundation pour on Oct 24th and celebrated Tihar festival with the community. We have also started work on the retaining wall which will ensure that the new buildings are safe from geological hazards. We are going to build 2 buildings with 3 rooms each and repair another pre-earthquake 3 room building at the school. Additionally we are going to build a Kitchen, a retaining wall for safety of the new buildings and install water filtration system + rainwater harvesting system with a retention tank of capacity 50,000 litres. We are also getting ready to launch our second program in Nepal in Sindhuli District where we are going to rebuild 2 schools.
Beneficiary Stories “ We were worried that AHAH like other organizations that have come to our school to take pictures and document damage would not return back to help us. However, they are already here now within months from the initial visit. Construction materials are brought up almost every day, a large number of volunteers and staff drenched in sweat (but always carrying a contagious smile) are working hard to rebuild our school. We could not be happier! ”
