The impact of the 2004 East Indian tsunami on our co-founders, David Campbell and Petra Nemcova, compelled them to commit their lives to disaster relief. In creating All Hands Volunteers and Happy Hearts Fund, and then joining forces to form All Hands and Hearts, they have inspired staff, volunteers, donors and partners to assist communities impacted by disasters around the globe.

15 YEARS ON In the 15 years following the tsunami, more than 59,000 volunteers have committed 456,000+ days to our disaster-relief programs, supporting 1.1 million people across 19 countries.

As a symbol of this incredible impact, and to mark this 15 year milestone, we hosted 15 events in 15 cities in Canada, Germany, Nepal, the UK, U.S. and Zimbabwe between December 1-15th. We partnered with local non-profits and invited alumni from these regions to team up, get to know each other and leverage their volunteer skills to support people in need in their own communities.

Alumni made holiday cards for local senior citizens and decorated bags for Open Arms, who cook and deliver meals to terminally ill clients.

Volunteers supported staff at the Lowell Transitional Living Center to organize and distribute donations to people on a journey from homelessness to housing.

KATHMANDU

Our team joined forces with Zostel hostel for a ‘walking tour with a difference.’ While exploring the winding streets of Thamel and the beautiful Durbar Square, our alumni were joined by local people who helped them pick up trash along the tour.

Alumni supported the team at the Bowery Mission to serve up an evening meal for people affected by homelessness across the city..

DENVER

Volunteers supported employees at Women’s Bean Project who help break the cycle of poverty for women who have been out of work long term.

We joined forces with Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful for a clean up event at a local park.

Our team supported UN Volunteers Zimbabwe to refurbish a hurricane shelter damaged by Cyclone Idai.

We joined the team at Capital Area Food Bank's Fort Totten central warehouse and distribution center sorting and packing donated food, organizing produce and packing groceries for 10,000+ seniors and 2,500 children.

Volunteers supported the team at St Anthony’s preparing their store which allows people with low income to shop with dignity.

Our team supported A Golden Heart to prepare and serve food to 300+ people affected by homelessness.

Alumni shared lunch V and discussed the achievements over the past 15 years.

Volunteers supported three nonprofits: The Helen Bamber Foundation, a human rights charity; City Harvest, who distribute surplus food to food banks; and The Washing Machine Project, who aim to alleviate the burden of handwashing clothes.

Alumni supported the team at Berliner Obdachlosenhilfe to prepare meals to be distributed to people living on the street.

We joined Creative Chicago Reuse exchange to make products from non recyclable materials.
