It is always an honour to be part of the organisation for the All Hallows Learning Community Inset day. 2013 has delivered yet another inspirational day with staff from across the learning community sharing their experiences and expertise to drive improvements across the partnership. This year there were a record number of workshops on offer and there was something to motivate and inspire all staff. We saw our non-teaching staff join us for the first time which is a tradition we plan to grow over the coming years so that the day provides meaningful Inset for all members of our extended community. The buzz in the hall at the end of the day when staff

shared their day with each other was fantastic. The feedback St Paul’s, Poynton showed that the staff would St John the Evangelist, Macclesfield have liked to have spent more time in their sessions as they Christ the King, Macclesfield were so good and also to have had the opportunity to attend more of the sessions. A real tribute to the quality of the training that was provided by all staff on the day. Thank you to everyone who took part on the day and who helped make it such a great celebration of the work that is going on across the All Hallows Learning Community.

Example workshops focused on aspects of Pedagogy Down Syndrome training (CAMHS): An understanding of Down Syndrome and on how to work with children with Down Syndrome in your classroom.

Effective use of Teaching Assistants: This session will identify some of the latest thinking about the effective use of Teaching Assistants and allow you to develop strategies you can employ within your subject areas and classroom so that you can make better use of them as a learning resource.

Effective use of technology in the classroom: iPads – Use one of the apps to, make a movie / video creatively and use the apps available effectively – share experiences amongst the group / watch video. Feedback and share with the group how we implemented our ideas and any lessons we learnt about using the iPads / apps.

Sharing good practice in promoting reading: Looking at a range of approaches including using reading blogs, iPads and some more traditional approaches to encouraging students to engage with fiction and non-fiction: sharing ideas across phases.

Engaging students in creative prayer in the classroom: Prayer workshops – so that every teacher feels confident with their group / encourage students to take ownership – look to provide toolkit in every classroom to provide teachers with doodle prayer walk / lots of ideas to make prayer time more interesting.

Encouraging the use of languages for non-specialists: Introduction a foreign language into lessons by discussing elements of a country – cultural / celebrations. Food technology going to introduce Chinese food techniques which will promote use of the language.

Developing a toolkit of strategies for problem solving: Using Puzzles to develop thinking skills and developing a problem solving washing line which can build transferrable skills across subjects.

Assessment of learning and progress in lessons: Using Puzzles to develop thinking skills and developing a problem solving washing line which can build transferrable skills across subjects.

Movie Maker in the classroom: An introduction to powerful digital video editing software with easyto-use tools and stunning studio-quality effects. Teachers will have an insight into how to produce quality movies as an educational resource and see the potential for students using movie maker software to evidence learning outcome.

Differentiation invigoration- revising and reviving the approach: Revising and reviving the approach' - taking time to refresh and revitalise the use of differentiation in the classroom through discussion, collaboration and sharing good practice.

Specific Learning Difficulties – Understanding and Overcoming: An insight into SpLD’s focusing on Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia. Support for early identification with an ethos of co-morbidity and neurodiversity. Practical strategies to overcome barriers to learning in reading, spelling, memory and alternatives to ‘Letters and Sounds’.

Read Write Inc.: A new reading and writing scheme recommended by the Department for Education which has proven very successful in our school.
