Kira Suite

A Storytelling Exercise in Hotel Design

Concept Statement

The Kira Suite is the result of the idea for a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventurethemed hotel and resort located in California. The concept of the suite is that a character in the series, Yoshikage Kira, has disappeared, leaving behind his traditional Japanese villa. It is soon up for sale.

Guests will experience a snapshot of the life Yoshikage Kira led and delight in many easter eggs and callbacks to the comics and animated series. The design of the suite is to adhere to traditional Japanese design principles, reference designs given in the comics and animated series, and add personal, whimsical touches.

Design Development / Inspiration

Yoshikage Kira dresses in purples, blues, pinks, blacks, and greens in most of his appearances. The suite will incorporate these colors.

The bathroom space will be sleek and minimal with a traditional ofuro, or soaking tub. Brick, glass, and tile will be important elements.

Design Development / Inspiration

Kira identifies himself as a tidy, organized, healthy, and unassuming man – this suite is intended to reflect those traits.

Design Development / Inspiration

“Easter eggs” from the series will be affixed to different areas in the space, allowing fans to enjoy a sense of immersion and excitement at living in the story. This concept could be expanded to include newspaper clippings that allow guests to follow along the story.
