Program Notes eklenip eklemlenmeyen zaman (a time added but not integrated) was born out of the idea of découpage, challenging formal integrity as the structure is entirely dependent on the scattering of material. The work is conceived in six episodes, all of which are signaled by the gradual inversions of the odd partials of G. The musical ideas explore the highly unstable and unpredictably complicated colors of the clarinet in Eb. This unpredictability is also evident in the accompanying visuals: Initially conceived separately as two independent streams, the engagement of the music and the video suggests a certain logic because they are presented together, instead of a logic that would relate them in the first place. As a result, the outcome is a ‘felt’ synchronization (instead of a sensational one), inverting two attributes of these two media: spatialization in music, and temporality in visuals. Only in the final episode of the piece, these two streams come together – in a way. The work is written for clarinet in Eb with live electronics and sine tones, in quadraphonic sound system. The live electronics and video control are realized in Max/MSP and Jitter. The video is created by filmmaker Deniz Tortum.
