If you have decided that you have got a need to reorganize, remodel or have come up with a completely new closet design, there are some steps you should take before you begin moving things around or start building. Closet design can be a pretty complex issue and it is a big step, especially for new construction. You will need to prepare the area whether it is an existing closet or for your new design to be constructed. Here is a few tips on how to help make the transition and installation go as smoothly as possible. Determining Your Needs To come up with a successful closet design, you will have to figure out exactly what you need and want in your new wardrobe space. Ask yourself the following questions: •How much of my clothing needs to be hung up? •Would I like shelves or drawers incorporated? •Am I going to be sharing this closet with anyone else? •Do I have lots of shoes and / or purses to store? •Do I want to store items like luggage, overnight bags, extra pillows and blankets in my closet? Once you have determined what you want out of the space, your new closet design should be a lot easier to plan. You can now determine how many rods you will need and at what heights you would like them installed and if you want shelving or storage cubes. Something else to consider is adjustable shelving so that you can adapt the closet design if your needs change later on. If you are working on an existing space, you might want to give it a 'facelift' with new sliding wardrobe doors. Sliding doors make it easy to access your clothing and do not take up as much space as compared to having to leave enough room to swing open a stationery door. Clean it Out This is a great time to let go of a few things - painful as it may seem. Go through everything in your closet and determine what to keep and what you need to get rid of. If you have got clothing or shoes that you have not worn in the past two years, it is time to either donate the items to charity or throw them out. You might even want to consider having a rummage sale. you will also want to discard anything that is permanently stained or torn beyond repair. If you find that you are so attached to something that you just can not part with it, find a place in the attic or basement to store it - do not put it back in your closet! Remove Any Fixtures
