UNESCO - The Status of World Heritage Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Germany, Scotland

There is a current lack of information on the management of urban world heritage sites as compared to rural ones. This is especially present for entire urban city sites as opposed to those with one or few protected structures.

The goal of this study is to document, understand and analyze the current extent of tourism’s impact on urban world heritage sites.

Questions to be asked: 1. To what extent are different cities affected by tourism? How far do its impacts reach away from the core?

2. What are the pros and cons of tourism in urban centers and how do they differ between cities?

3. What are the differences in the impacts of tourism between different scales of world heritage status designation?
