JUDGING & SHOW REPORT

Alberta Holstein once again hosted a judging clinic on June 8th in Rimbey. With our official judge, Steve Fraser, over seeing the classes. The clinic was very well attended with many young eager participants. Alberta Holstein judging clinics are an integral part in building and maintaining our official judges in Alberta. The 2 annual clinics put on by the Branch are an important tool in this process, as it is required that all aspiring and official judges attend at least 2 clinics a year and consistently maintain a high standard at these clinics.
Alberta Holstein is looking to build on this with introducing more mentorship for our aspiring judges. More details will be available in the fall.
With fall quickly approaching along with the Red Deer Dairy Showcase, Alberta Holstein will once again be hosting the judging clinic on October 19 in Red Deer. We invite all official and aspiring judges along with anyone who wants to increase their dairy knowledge to attend. Following the clinic lunch will be provided. Hope to see you all there.
FIELD SERVICE REPORT

Field service: an ongoing commitment.
Classifiers are coming again on September 11th. Clubs may take advantage of that combined with the nice weather to have classifiers meetings.
New for classifying are new research traits.
1) Weightings on Locomotion & Front Leg View which started on December 2021 proofs
2) Anogenital (AGD) a trait or measurement used for estrus expression and to predict fertility
-Check pages 22-24 in the infoHolstein for more information on these classification changes.
In an effort to gain members, Toby is organizing an on farm pilot meeting in the Lethbridge area in December. This meeting will be hosted by Holstein Canada but will include a panel discussion with farmers and industry partners. Stay tuned on social media and club emails for more info and dates. This project may be expanded to other areas on the western provinces. Remember: If anyone has any questions about registration or genomic testing please feel free to call or message Toby; he would be eager to help out either by phone or to schedule a farm visit!!

Logan Chalack Memorial Award

Each year since 2016, WCC has presented an award based on personality, leadership, team work and work ethic in memory of Logan Chalack of Wendon Holsteins, a past WCC participant and Holstein breeder. This award is chosen by the WCC participants – each province nominates a team member and then the provinces cast votes to decide a winner.
2023 ALBERTA HOLSTEIN ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
CAN BE USED AT: Any officially recognized post-secondary institution.
YEAR OF STUDY: must have completed at least the first year of university/college; and must be returning to school within the calendar year.
PROGRAM OF STUDY: any field of study will qualify but a post -secondary program in/or related to agriculture, science or business with a demonstrated interest in dairy might be preferable.
NUMBER & VALUE OF Up to 4 (four) worth $1000 each Scholarships will be SCHOLARSHIPS: awarded in February 2024 at the Alberta Holstein Association Annual Meeting.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Must be a regular or junior member of the Alberta Branch Holstein Canada, or a son/daughter of a member
Selection will be based on farm involvement, community participation, extra circular activities and academic standings.
The student’s most recent post-secondary transcripts, a resume and required essay must accompany application form.
The required 500 to 1000 -word essay must explain farm involvement, volunteer experience along with future employment ambitions.
6 (Six) judges from members at large will select winners. No individual will be eligible for a second award.
