Voice of the Beavers, OSU Sports Announcer Register

Wednesday, September 24th, 11:30am

Mike Parker

Mike Parker, known as the Voice of the Oregon State Beavers, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Hacienda Heights, California, before moving to Cottage Grove, Oregon, at age fourteen His passion for sports was sparked early attending his first MLB game at age seven and inspired by the legendary Vin Scully to pursue sports broadcasting After graduating from the University of Oregon in 1982 with a degree in Rhetoric and Communications, Parker began his announcing career with the Eugene Emeralds and later the Portland Beavers. He also worked pre- and post-game shows for the Portland Trail Blazers while pursuing his dream of calling playby-play for major sports.

That dream came true in 1999 when Parker was named the play-by-play announcer for Oregon State University, where he has since become a beloved voice for Beaver football, basketball, and baseball In addition to his OSU role, Parker works with the Corvallis Knights and co-hosts the Joe Beaver Show on KEJO-AM His career has been shaped by both triumphs and challenges, and he credits his deep connection to Beaver Nation and the athletes and coaches he has encountered along the way for making it all worthwhile.

Professional Background: I started working for Best Heating & Cooling when I was 14 years old (2007). At 18, I moved into field work as an apprentice, and by 20 I had the opportunity to transition into sales and estimating. In 2014, my wife and I started a side business that ultimately didn’t succeed in its initial goal but taught me many valuable lessons shaping me into a stronger leader, father, and friend. Today, I serve as the Vice President of Best Heating & Cooling, managing day-today operations, supporting our team, and ensuring we continue to provide excellent customer service and competitive solutions for our customers

You and your company’s community involvement: At Best Heating and Cooling, community is at the heart of everything we do. We sponsor youth programs, participate in local events, and support families and organizations whenever possible. Many of our team members grew up here, and we take pride in investing back into the same schools, businesses, and neighborhoods that have shaped us For us, community involvement is about building lasting connections and strengthening the place we all call home

Biggest Issue Facing Albany: Albany is a great community filled with capable and talented people, but it faces challenges largely tied to the policies and priorities of the State of Oregon. While Albany has a unique logistical advantage with a major railway running through town and the freeway close by it resides in one of the more difficult states in the country to do business in Our city has seen population growth but has struggled to keep up with infrastructure improvements and the creation of good, living-wage jobs For Albany to thrive, it will take better support at the state level to ensure the community reaches its full potential

Business Marketing Niche: Our marketing niche is rooted in relationships and trust. Instead of competing to be the biggest, we focus on being the most personal sharing team stories, educating customers, and showing up for our community We also highlight our employees’ skills and personalities so customers know exactly who is coming to their door, which builds comfort and familiarity. My advice for success is simple: stay genuine, consistent, and customer-focused. When people know they can urally.

Oregon Mayors

Association Leadership Award

Recipient

Albany Mayor Alex Johnson II

Linn County Clerk’s Office is Moving

The clerk’s office will be located on the first floor of the Wheelhouse at 421 Water Avenue NE, Suite 1300, Albany.

Linn County Clerk Marcie Richey said the new office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“We’re excited about the move,” Richey said. “It is a beautiful building and we were included in the layout of the new office space since day one. We believe the new space and the many security measures we have put in place will ensure secure elections now and in the future.”

Albany Mayor Alex Johnson II has been named the recipient of the 2025 Mayors Leadership Award for Large Cities by the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA).

The award, presented August 16 at the OMA Summer Conference in Baker City, honors mayors who demonstrate exceptional leadership and lasting contributions to their communities.

Johnson was recognized for guiding Albany through major initiatives, including the waterfront revitalization project, expanded housing options and affordability measures, strengthened public safety services, and long-term investments in city infrastructure and utilities. He is also known for his deep commitment to civic engagement, youth programs, and building strong partnerships at the local, regional, and state levels.

Albany City Councilor Marilyn Smith praised Johnson’s enthusiasm and dedication:

"Mayor Johnson is proud to be Albany's mayor, and if he hasn't told you how much he loves Oregon's 11th largest and third fastest-growing city, he hasn't met you yet," Smith said.

To contact the Linn County Clerk’s office, call 541-967-3831, or visit www.linncountyor.gov/clerk.
