Mitch Canham
OSU Baseball Head Coach
Wednesday, September 25th 11:30am - 1:00pm
Two-time National Champion Mitch Canham was named the 21st head coach in Oregon State baseball’s history on June 13, 2019.
Canham, the Pat Casey Head Baseball Coach, was revered by Beaver Nation in four years as a student-athlete, and is one of the most popular players in school history. He was a 2007 All-American and guided the Beavers to three trips to Omaha, culminating in National Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Canham, a native of Richland, Wash., came back to the collegiate ranks after spending three-and-a-half seasons as a manager in the Seattle Mariners’ organization.
As a business administration graduate, he excelled off the field while at OSU earning 2007 Academic All-America accolades and three-time membership on the Pac-10 Academic team. The five-time OSU Dean’s List member was also a leader on Oregon State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was presented the Beavers’ Glenn Klein Award for his community service contributions.
Following his senior season, the Pac-10 honored Canham as OSU’s male recipient of the 2007 Tom Hansen Award, presented annually to the outstanding senior student-athlete based on exhibition of the greatest combination of performance, and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
Canham’s contributions to local communities have continued during his professional career and include founding and serving as the CEO of BASE By Pros LLC, an organization that provides personalized baseball instruction and mentorship to kids across the country.
Following his stellar career at Oregon State, Canham was selected in the first round, 57th overall, by the San Diego Padres in the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He was the sixth first-round selection in Oregon State history.
He spent four seasons with the Padres’ organization, reaching as high as Triple-A Portland. He also spent time with the Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals’ organizations before ending his professional playing career with the independent Lincoln Saltdogs in 2015.
Canham’s business administration degree from Oregon State came in 2011. He and his wife, Marlis, have two childen, Mack and Mya.

She is most proud of both her command leadership experience in drug enforcement, DUI enforcement, special operations, SWAT, Explosives unit, and union leadership experience. She also serves on the Executive Board for the Oregon Association of Chief of Police.
Her biggest passion is developing the leaders in any organization. This passion has resulted in instructing for several organizations, colleges and also being a small business owner who helps develop the next leaders. The company also conducts Workplace Culture Assessments.

Professional Background: My professional training includes a double degree, from LBCC, in Business & Supervisory Management, and a B.A. in Organizational Leadership from George Fox University. Plus, over 20 years of experience in systems design in the electronic security industry.
You and your company’s community involvement: I’ve proudly been an active Chamber member, for over 20 years. I’m a regular attendee at Thursday morning Chamber Greeters, monthly luncheons, Business After Hours, and have participated in the annual Business Extravaganza trade show each September. In addition, Professional Security Alarm plays an active role in support of our YMCA, Boys & Girls Club (including the annual Christmas auction), 4-H, and other events.
Biggest Issue Facing Albany: In a nutshell; taxation without representation. So, thank you to the Chamber’s leaders for representing the membership—and keeping us up to date—in such matters. Particularly by approaching things from a hometown conservative approach!
Business Marketing Niche: Professional Security Alarm has been a local leader in electronic security systems for over 35 years. We are experts in designing, installing, and maintaining high quality intrusion alarm, fire alarm, and camera surveillance systems for homes, commercial operations, and industrial facilities. My personal ethos has always been to develop relationships with other Chamber members; instead of using the “hard sell” approach to sales. By creating genuine relationships—which often turn into long term friendships—referrals will happen and new customers will be the result.
New $6.8 Billion Tax on Sales would be Largest Tax in State History, Hurting Oregon Businesses and Costing Consumers Billions
Opposition to Measure 118 continues to grow as Oregonians learn about the damage this deeply flawed $6.8 Billion annual tax on the sale of goods and services would do to the state’s residents, businesses, economy and public services. Here are some facts to keep in mind:
*Measure 118 is a tax on sales, not income or profit. This tax on gross sales applies whether a business makes a lot of money, has small margins or even loses money.
*Prices will go up There’s no such thing as free money Consumers will pay for this massive tax through higher prices as confirmed by the nonpartisan Legislative Revenue Office.
*Measure 118 is a “tax on a tax.” Unlike a traditional sales tax that happens once at the final sale, Measure 118’s tax on sales could apply at every step of the supply chain.
*Measure 118 makes Oregon businesses less competitive. Out-of-state farmers, manufacturers and others will have an immediate advantage because sales in their state won’t apply.
*There’s no guarantee anyone gets their “rebate.” Future legislatures could amend this law at any time, use the money for something else, or increase the tax rate.
*Measure 118 taxes sales on everything including everyday necessities. There are no product exemptions, so this tax on sales would apply to everything from groceries to gas, and from insurance to medicine.
A broad, bipartisan coalition opposes Measure 118. Democrats and Republicans, business organizations and labor unions the growing list of those who oppose this deeply flawed measure is unprecedented.
In their own words:
“It may look good on paper, but its flawed approach would punch a huge hole in the state budget and put essential services for low-wage and working families at risk.” Governor Tina Kotek (July 30)
“I think Oregonians are smart enough to know that free money is never actually free. Consumers, [are] going to be paying this tax through higher prices.” Angela Wilhelms, President, Oregon Business & Industry Association (Aug. 16)
“In practice, affected businesses would likely move more of the operations out-of-state to avoid this.” The Tax Foundation (June 13)
“Any tax that is based on general consumption will have a regressive impact on the distribution of the tax burden, meaning that lower income households will experience a higher tax burden as a percentage of their income than higher income households.” Oregon Legislative Revenue Office report on Measure 118 (Updated July 17)
“It’s clear that this California-funded initiative has concerning, potentially dire implications for the critical services that hardworking Oregonians rely upon.” Joint statement from Senate President Rob Wager, Speaker of the House Julie Fahey, Senate Majority Leader Kathleen Taylor and House Majority Leader Ben Bowman.
Craig Spivey will be taking over the play-by-play announcing for West Albany High School Football on KSHO Radio 920AM & 94.1FM. The stations are locally owned by Eads Broadcasting Corporation.
Tyler Price will continue as color commentator.
Craig Spivey is a veteran of more than 30 years of sports broadcasting. He received his degree in broadcast journalism from Oregon State University in 1981 and has worked in radio, television, and print media.
Albanyopoly is a unique board game that captures the spirit of Albany, featuring local businesses and landmarks Created in 1986 for the Albany Chamber of Commerce, the game is a localized take on the classic Monopoly, offering players a fun and educational way to explore the city's rich history and vibrant community.
In Albanyopoly, instead of the traditional properties like Boardwalk and Park Place, players can buy and trade local businesses and landmarks that have been a part of Albany's fabric This includes everything from popular restaurants and shops to historical sites, making it a nostalgic journey for long-time residents
The game follows similar rules to Monopoly, with players moving around the board, buying properties, and collecting rent. However, the twist lies in the local flavor, as the Chance and Community Chest cards, the game pieces, and even the currency are all themed around Albany. This game was not only a way to promote local businesses but also a community-building tool, encouraging residents to connect with and support their local economy
