2024 Excellence in Downtown Albany Awards

The Albany Area Chamber was awarded the Creative Placemaking Award for the Mural Project.

Placemaking is about using a community’s assets and potential to create public spaces that promote health, happiness and well-being. This award recognizes those who have made meaningful and attractive improvements to public areas in Downtown Albany.

The mural has brought a sense of place and pride to Downtown Albany. Representing history and industry, this eye-catching focal piece draws attention from both locals and visitors alike.

For over 100 years, Pacific Power has supported largely underserved and rural communities across the state as an economic engine. Now, wildfire risk is challenging the ability of utilities like Pacific Power to continue providing safe and reliable power to Oregonians. Wildfire is not a utility problem; it is an everyone problem. This is the new reality we face and without action from communities, elected officials, regulators and legislators, wildfire will impact Oregon’s ability to grow and thrive economically. Pacific Power President Ryan Flynn will address this issue, share challenges posed for a continued clean energy transition and discuss on what changes Oregon businesses and communities face as we conclude an unprecedented 2024 wildfire season.

In his role, Ryan is responsible for regional strategy and engagement, and leads customer and community affairs, government affairs and the legal department. Ryan joined PacifiCorp in 2006, holding various positions in the legal department before leaving in 2015 to pursue a family opportunity in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Biggest Issue Facing Albany: I’m a recent transplant from FL & AL and have only been in Albany a couple years, so my perspective is limited. One thing I’ve noticed is Albany doesn’t seem to have much to offer in the way of nice office space. Our office looked around for a possible new location and didn’t find much offered. Overall, I really enjoy being in Albany. I’m loving the new lane striping on the roads!

You and your company’s community involvement: Crosby Wealth Advisors (a Private Wealth Advisory practice of Ameriprise based in Kirkland WA) came to Albany in 2015 with the acquisition of the practice previously run by Roger Mickey. Albany is one of 4 offices of Crosby Wealth, with the others in Kirkland WA, Vancouver WA, & Anchorage AK. Our advisors have almost 150 years of shared investment experience.
