Scott Rueck OSU’s Women’s Basketball Coach Tuesday, June 18th 11:30am - 1:00pm Linn County Expo Center
It was a homecoming of sorts for OSU alumnus Scott Rueck, who was named the fifth head coach in the history of the Oregon State women’s basketball program on June 30, 2010.
The two-time Oregon State graduate engineered a remarkable turnaround in 14 years on the job, taking over a team that needed open tryouts to fill a roster in his first season to the 2016 Final Four and status as a national power with three Elite Eights, five Sweet 16s and three Pac-12 Championships in the last 10 seasons.
Rueck has led the Beavers to eight NCAA Tournaments, including the 2024 Elite 8. Oregon State won three-straight Pac-12 titles from 2015-17, and has made five Sweet-16’s, three Elite Eight’s and a Final Four. Oregon State's 2023-24 season was one of the best in school history. Rueck's typical elite defense carried the team as the Beavs finished 8th in the country.
Scott got his start coaching while an undergrad at Oregon State. He served as assistant coach at Santiam Christian High School for the boy’s basketball team from 1989-93. He then became a women’s basketball assistant at George Fox under former head coach Sherri Murrell, helping the Bruins to a 37-23 overall record and two NAIA postseason appearances. Additionally, he coached the women’s tennis team in 1995-96.
Basketball runs in the Rueck family. His sister, Heidi, was an NAIA All-American point guard at George Fox. His father, Marv, was a part of the coaching staffs at Hillsboro and Glencoe High Schools and was the inaugural head coach at Glencoe when it opened in 1980.
Rueck earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science from Oregon State in 1991, while adding a master’s in physical education

Emma Eaton Cumberland Community Events Center
Professional Background: It was 2008 when I first saw the Cumberland building and felt it needed to be saved. It was also when we moved to the neighborhood and rescued the Keyhole House. Even though it was abandoned and neglected, it was a unique landmark. I was surprised to see it in this state when Albany was noted for its historic architecture. I was there when we organized in 2018 and in 2019 when we achieved our nonprofit status as a 501c3. In 2021, we made history and I am honored to be a part of moving the building and saving it from demolition.
You and your company’s community involvement: Our vision is to create a successful business while having a positive impact on the Albany community. Children are the hope for making lasting change. It is important to present different options early in childhood. Encouragement is needed to explore new skills and to not be afraid if they don’t succeed the first time. Providing events that offer an opportunity to learn norms outside their community and to interact with different social classes is important. The value of one child learning that they have options and can stop the pattern is priceless!
Business Marketing Niche: Our niche is to provide a place to meet with a fee for services and available space to nonprofits. Albany has a lot of services available. We can provide a place to meet and to collaborate on improving safety and identifying needs in the area. Currently we are partnering with the Kiwanis to supplement Waverly Elementary children with needed hygiene products, school supplies and other basic needs. Habitat Restore is a valued partner and together we are working to monitor the area around us for problems.

OSHA Walkaround Rule
Unless a court intervenes, a new federal OSHA rule will require employers to allow third-party representatives to join onsite OSHA inspections. Oregon has not yet updated its own rule on this issue, but OBI expects it to in the coming months.
The federal rule, which will go into effect May 31, allows anyone an inspector deems a worker representative to join an inspection. Worker representatives can include union representatives (even on open-shop jobsites), community activists and any other party deemed reasonably necessary for conducting the inspection This new rule could allow non-employees access to jobsites, trade secrets and additional information that could be used for organizing efforts Employers should review OSHA’s FAQ for the walkaround rule to ensure they know the process an inspection should follow and are able to identify activity by third-party representatives that is unrelated to the inspection.
In anticipation of OSHA inspections, employers can protect themselves by developing procedures to negotiate the scope of inspections and limit the number of third-party representatives. Procedures should require third-party representatives to sign liability waivers to limit tort risk and nondisclosure agreements to protect confidential information viewed during an inspection. Other protective measures employers can take include designating a person to meet the OSHA inspector and anyone they bring; ensuring the inspection is conducted in a manner that does not create unreasonable disruptions; and instructing the inspector to tell the third-party representative that matters unrelated to the inspection should not be discussed with employees
Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker have again unanimously approved the annual FirstTime Youth Wage Grant program for its 18th year.
Linn County uses economic development funds generated by the Video Lottery to subsidize $3 per hour of wages for first-time teen employees, 14 to 19 years of age. The program has been highly successful, with dozens of teenagers employed each summer. Last year, 21 employers hired 46 young people who worked almost 10,800 hours
To qualify, businesses must hire eligible employees between May 1 and September 30. The employee must be legal to work in the United States and a resident of Linn County. Qualifying businesses must employ 35 or fewer employees and the young people must be first-time employees, who have not previously worked for the individual business.
An employer can hire up to three youth at any given time and receive a maximum of $1,500 per new hire, or $4,500 total Employers have until November 15, 2024 to submit a request for reimbursement.
