For the first time ever, we have funding in place for the next two Dorchester Festivals in 2012 and 2014 as well as continuing our professional programme and our expanding range of community arts projects.

For those with a passion for world music we have the wonderful Shiva Nova returning to the Corn Exchange on 24th June. Our outdoor theatre production in Maumbury Rings is a comedy thriller for all the family The Death of Sherlock Holmes - and for those of you introducing children to the wonder of live performance we have The Mousehole Cat, another beautifully crafted show from Puppetcraft.

CRIMES OF THE HEART PDL EXTENSION THEATRE DORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 7.30pm (Doors and bar 7pm) • £9 • £7 members and under 18s This award winning dark comedy, by Beth Henley, is a deeply touching and funny play set in a small southern town in the USA rocked by scandal when the youngest of three dysfunctional, eccentric sisters is in trouble for shooting her husband. In the wake of the destruction left by Hurricane Camille we find ourselves embroiled in the devastation of the lives of the sisters, as each in turn commits the crime of failing to follow their hearts. Melanie Hooley directs Fran Sanson, Georgie Willis, Tamzin Hyde, Lee Stroud and Andrew Ackerman in this drama full of crisis and conflict. All proceeds from these shows support Dorchester Arts work in the community

Emerging from the roughneck dives of London, 24 Pesos burst on to the blues scene in 2008 with their raw and rootsy live shows and debut album The Boogie Worm. Their latest album Busted, Broken and Blue showcases the evolution of the 24 Pesos sound - 11 boot stompin’ originals drawing from diverse influences such as Ray Charles, The Meters, Freddie King and Howlin’ Wolf. SHIVA NOVA WORLD MUSIC DORCHESTER CORN EXCHANGE • 8pm (Doors and bar 7.30pm) • £10 • Under 18s and concessions £6 Shiva Nova, one of the West’s leading multicultural ensembles, returns to Dorchester after their sell out performance at the Dorchester Festival several years ago. Their fusion of Indian, African and European styles, widely admired and enjoyed for its energy and spontaneity, cleverly integrates elements of jazz, classical and dance music. Shiva Nova are spending two days working with every Year 8 student in St. Osmund’s, Puddletown and Dorchester Middle Schools running workshops in South Indian percussion, African drumming and Indian vocals. The students will present a short showcase of the work they have done at the beginning of the performance. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy subtle eastern grooves and mesmerizing world music. www.shivanova.com A Youth Music funded project

PUPPET SHOW DORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 5pm • £7 adults • £6 members • £5 children • £20 family • For age 4 to very grown up PuppetCraft present The Mousehole Cat, based on an award-winning children’s book by Antonia Barber, told through the miaowing and purring Mowzer the cat about the Cornish fishing village of Mousehole where a storm has been raging for weeks. Everyone is hungry as the boats cannot leave the harbour to fish. Old Tom the fisherman and his cat Mowzer set out to sea in their small boat, braving the fury of the Great Storm-Cat to try and save the village. The story is inspired by an old folk legend that is still celebrated each year in the village of Mousehole. A charming tale brought to life using carved wooden puppets, coloured shadows, live music, song and sound effects. Presented in partnership with the Dorset Theatre Promoters Consortium

Holmes has a new mystery to solve – this time he is the victim. Investigating a most ingenious crime, where the only witness is a garden gnome, Holmes gets a tip-off from beyond the grave and enlists the help of Dr Watson to follow a trail of criminal masterminds and suspicious fairies. Miracle adds a large measure of comedy to create a period thriller with a sting in the tail - wonderful for all ages. Bring a picnic and enjoy great open-air theatre! Drama, Dance and Music Partnerships Dorchester Arts is always keen to forge new partnerships with dance and theatre companies looking for space to develop new work. We have a growing number of associate artists who we work with on a range of community arts projects - from Youth Music to drama therapy, from nurture groups in schools to the production of animated films with groups of children.
