FOLK MUSIC DORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 8pm (doors and bar 7.30pm) • £9 / £7 members and concessions Scottish folk singer Dick Gaughan returns to Dorchester Arts Centre after his sellout concert two years ago. He has been hailed as one of the biggest protest singers of his generation with a career spanning over four decades. His songs have been recorded by Billy Bragg and Mary Black and Capercaillie. John Peel described him as “one of the five or six great voices of our time”. He is the only performer to hold the dual honours of a Lifetime Achievement award by BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and honoured in the Scots Traditional Music Hall of Fame. “How music from the gut really sounds” (The Guardian) www.dickgaughan.co.uk

CALL MR. ROBESON THEATRE DORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 8pm (doors and bar 7.30pm) • £10 / £9 members / £8 concessions The story of Paul Robeson is played by Tayo Aluko, winner of Best Male Actor at the Brighton Fringe Festival for his performance in Call Mr Robeson. American actor Robeson was famous as a singer and civil rights campaigner. When he became too outspoken for the establishment's liking he was branded a traitor to his country, harassed and forbidden to perform or travel. This rollercoaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life highlights how his activism caused him to be disowned, even by leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement. It features famous songs and speeches including a rendition of Ol’ Man River and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee. “A stunning piece of musical theatre... high quality drama, first class singing... outstanding show!” (5 Stars Fringe Review, Edinburgh Fringe 2010) www.callmrrobeson.com

Saturday 3 December

WILLE AND THE BANDITS + ANDY GRANT BLUES / ROCK DORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 8pm (doors and bar 7.30pm) • £10 adult / £8 advance adult / £6 concessions Wille And The Bandits have been receiving praise across the globe for their fresh approach to roots music. From the versatility of Wille’s lap slide and guitar playing to the rhythmic diversity of percussionist Andrew Naumann they always keep audiences guessing. Often likened to the greats of the 70s such as Led Zeppelin, Santana and Pink Floyd, this comparison, although brave, only scrapes the surface of the Bandits’ influences. Their original sound, which has the unique ability to appeal to three generations of music lovers, is mainly down to their explosive live performance and eclectic songwriting. Joining Wille And The Bandits will be local Dorchester musician Andy Grant. www.myspace.com/willesband www.andygrant.net
