A Message from the President It gives me great pleasure to introduce the 12th edi4on of the Ayrshire Golf Associa4on Year Book, in my first year as Associa4on President. It is an honour and a privilege to be elected as President of the Associa4on and I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve in this posi4on. 2014 was another busy year for Ayrshire in terms of hos4ng both R & A and Sco6sh Golf Union major events. In April we had the Sco6sh Boys Championship at West Kilbride whilst in August we had the Boys Home Interna4onals at Western Gailes and the Boys Amateur Championship at Prestwick Golf Club and Dundonald Links. 2015 will be slightly quieter with only the Sco6sh Youths Open Milton Murray Championships to be played at Irvine Golf Club in July, although Ayrshire golf fans will have the opportunity to see two major Ladies professional tournaments this year when the Sco6sh Ladies Open and the Ricoh Woman’s Bri4sh Open visit Dundonald and Turnberry respec4vely in July. The County Teams had mixed fortunes in 2014. The mens’ team qualified for the matchplay stages in the Area Team Championship, but were defeated by a strong Perth & Kinross Team. At the Boys Area Team Championship the team struggled in difficult condi4ons. On the domes4c scene 2014 proved an excellent year for many of our players and I congratulate all the winners in county events including Strokeplay Champion and Doc Thom Salver Order Of Merit winner John Shanks, Matchplay Champion Craig Hamilton, Seniors Champion Allan J Merry, Club Champions Prestwick GC, Champion Of Champions Trophy winner Gary Bryden, Fourball Champions George and David McCulloch from Brunston Castle and the five divisional winners in the Ayrshire Scratch leagues, Irvine, Prestwick St Cuthbert, Turnberry, Troon St Meddans & Brunston Castle. In Junior Golf, Stuart Easton (Irvine) had a tremendous run in the Sco6sh Boys at West Kilbride, where he was knocked out by eventual winner Ewan Ferguson in the Semi Finals. Stuart also represented Scotland in the Home Interna4onals at Western Gailes. Ayrshire Junior Golf was dominated by Stuart’s fellow Irvine member Jack Thomas who won both the Boys Strokeplay & Matchplay and went on to win the Junior Order of Merit and Champion Of Champions Trophy to become the first winner of the county boys ‘Grand Slam’ 4

In the West Of Scotland Leagues, the Under 18’s finished runner up to Dumbartonshire with 3 wins, a draw & a loss. The Youths were unlucky to be beaten on the count back and finish runner up to Renfrewshire with 4 wins & a loss and the Gents A Team finished 3rd to Renfrewshire with 2 wins, 2 draws & a loss. I would like to thank the team managers and wish them all the best in 2015. As I reflect on 2014, I would like to say a sincere thank you to all the Execu4ve Members for their efforts on behalf of the Associa4on and its member clubs. In par4cular I would like to pay tribute to immediate Past President Milton Murray for his contribu4on to Ayrshire Golf during his Presidency. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those Clubs who gave up their facili4es to allow us to stage our Championships and Team Matches throughout the year. That support is hugely appreciated.. James McMurdo

2014 Review of the Year

2014 saw the re4ral of two valued members of the Ayrshire Golf Associa4on Execu4ve, with John Duncan (Troon Portland) and Past President David Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) stepping down at the Annual General Mee4ng in October, where President James McMurdo paid tribute to the commitment of both gem=ntlemen, and that of the late Cliff Francis (Troon Welbeck) during their years on The Execu4ve. The Annual General Mee4ng also saw the elec4on of three new members to the Execu4ve, with John Wa5 (Prestwick St Cuthbert), Ian Hoynes (West Kilbride) and Willie McCormick (Ayr Seafield) joining for the first 4me. Peter Doyle (Troon Wellbeck) was also co-opted to the exeacu4ve for a 2 year period in January 2015.

Coaching

John Wa&

John Rushbury again took the lead on the coaching development in early 2014. Due to a number of factors it was decided to reintroduce a local Ayrshire Golf Academy programme in 2014 and move away from the Sco6sh Golf Academy Development Centres programme which had been in place for the previous two years. The new local programme, being delivered over the winter months, has been well received in the early stages. Following the 2014 AGM, Sco5 Gilchrist took over the coaching por>olio from John Rushbury.

Teams

Sco& Gilchrist

Robert Wilson con4nued to lead the youth team for a fourth successive year in 2014 and a3er winning the West Of Scotland Youth League 4tle in 2013, the team were unfortunate to lose the 4tle on the countback to Renfrewshire, a3er losing their only match of the campaign in their final encounter of the season, against Lanarkshire at Lanark.

Robert Wilson

In 2015 the upper age limit for the youths league will increase from 23 to 25, which allows all the members of the 2013 and 2014 squad to be considered again in 2015, and Robert Wilson will again manage the youths team in 2015.

The 3 player youth team who represented Ayrshire in the Glasgow Youths Championship, Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert), Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck) and Stuart Easton (Irvine) performed well under Robert’s guidance, but did not feature in the prizes.

The annual match with the South Of Scotland, played at Stranraer, resul4ng in an 11 – 7 defeat for the Ayrshire team. John Duncan led the boys team in 2014 and just missed out to Dumbartonshire for the 4tle in the West Of Scotland under 18 league, finishing as runners up following three wins, a draw and a single defeat.

With the re4ral of John Duncan from the Execu4ve at the AGM, Past President Milton Murray will administer the Boys team in 2015, along with Sco5 Gilchrist. Milton Murray

Area Boys Team Championsip Team

Ayrshire did not feature in the medal places at the 2014 Sco6sh Boys Area Team Championship, held in difficult weather condi4ons at Machrihanish Dunes in June, the team of Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck), Jack Thomas (Irvine), Jordan Fraser (Ayr Belleisle) & Shaun Hedger (West Kilbride) finishing in 13th place.

The team of Ricky Magee, Allan Muir and John Rushbury again administered the A Team in 2014. Ayrshire finished in mid table in the West Of Scotland League, with two wins a draw and two losses over the series of matches.

Ricky Magee

The introduc4on of a West Of Scotland we page has proved to be popular, with results and informa4on on compe44ons at senior, youths and boys level being made easily accessible to all. The page can be viewed at www.westofscotlandgolf.blogspot.com In the Sco6sh Area Team Championships in May at Old Ranfurly and Ranfuly Castle, the Ayrshire team of Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert), Tommy McInally (Loudoun), Malcolm Pennyco5 (Whi4ng Bay), John Shanks (Irvine), Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) & Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) qualified for the Matchplay stages but lost in the first round to a strong Perth & Kinross team, who lost out in the semi finals to eventual runners up Lanarkshire, with host county Renfrewshire winning the 4tle. The Innes McQueen Trophy was retained in the match against the Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Associa4on in 2014, with a 2.5 – 1.5 win at Rowallan Castle.

Senior Area Team

Our thanks must once again be recorded for the efforts of our coaching professionals Graham Ross (Inverclyde), Richard Gordon (Ayr Belleisle) and David Fleming (Prestwick) as well as fitness coach Duncan Liddel who con4nue develop the Ayrshire coaching squad within the coaching framework.

Tournaments

1n 2014 the current Associa4on President James McMurdo, assisted by Hugh Mckenzie and John Rushbury, con4nued as tournament administrator, with all events again enjoying good level of entries. The present format for the Scratch (Summer) Leagues is now well established and remains popular with compe4ng clubs.

Hugh McKenzie

The Associa4on presently have six SGU cer4fied referees, Alasdair Malcolm, James McMurdo, Iain Harvey, John Rushbury, Sco5 Gilchrist & Mike Hazlewood. Alasdair Malcolm is also R & A Rules qualified. Thanks are due to all the referees for their contribu4on towards the successful administra4on of our championships throughout the season. During the year, Ayrshire Execu4ve members are called upon to assist in the running of na4onal events held within the county whilst individual members also take on the task of the ongoing administra4on of extended compe44ons, including the Champion Of Champions, Fourball and Scratch league events, to ensure their smooth and successful conclusion by the end of the playing season. Course Ra,ng Allan Muir, assisted by John Rutherford and David McKie and execu4ve members Ricky Magee and Mike Hazlewood, again oversaw the course ra4ng programme in Ayrshire in 2014, ensuring that the courses throughout the country have a ra4ng and Standard Scratch Score that accurately reflects the difficulty of the course. Courses rated during 2014 included Maybole, New Cumnock, Muirkirk and Turnberry Kintyre, with par4al ra4ng carried out at others including Troon Portland and Rowallan Castle. Allan Muir and his team will again oversee the course ra4ng scheme in 2015.

The Ayrshire Junior Golf League

Allan Muir

Sco5 Gilchrist remained as AJGL representa4ve on the county Execu4ve in 2014 and will con4nue in this role in 2015.

Since 1987 the Ayrshire Golf Associa4on and Ayrshire Junior Golf League, have worked closely together in the development of junior golf, with a representa4ve of The League serving on the Ayrshire Golf Associa4on Execu4ve since that 4me.

Billy Tait completed his first season as AJGL Secretary in 2014 with Gavin Sco5 ac4ng as Assistant Secretary and Robin Baker as Treasurer.

Press and Publicity

The Ayrshire Golf Associa4on web page has been the main vehicle for publicising the work of The Associa4on for over 10 years now, since its establishment in the autumn of 2004, with Associa4on Secretary Alasdair Malcolm administering the web page since its establishment.. The weblog con4nues to prove popular with county players and club members alike, with strong visitor numbers every year, from both Scotland and further afield. Fixture lists, compe44on results and entry forms are all made available on the web page, which also features links to member clubs own websites and other useful golf links.

Local press o3en use the web page as a source for press ar4cles, which are regularly being reproduced from the weblog in local papers and on golf related websites. Alasdair Malcolm

Clubs are encouraged to forward anything of interest to Alasdair Malcolm at ayrshire.golf@b4nternet.com for possible inclusion on the web page.

The Ayrshire Golf Associa4on Yearbook was produced again in 2014, its eleventh successive year, and the quality produc4on by Ayrshire Media Services who are based in Dukes Road in Troon, has been well received both within the county and beyond. The Associa4on are pleased that Ayrshire Media Services have again produced the yearbook in 2015 and are confident that this publica4on will con4nue to prove popular and useful to both members and adver4sers alike.

In Memorium

As we look back over 2014 we remember friends and golfing colleagues who are no longer with us. Legendary Ayrshire golf coach Bob Torrance passed away on Friday 18th July at the age of 82. Formerly the professional at Largs Routenburn Golf Club, Torrance went on to become a highly respected coach whose pupils included his own son Sam Torrance as well as Padraig Harrington, whom he coached to his two Open Championship wins, and many other top players. In 2009, the newly refurbished golf facility at the Sco6sh na4onal Sports Centre at Inverclyde in Largs, Torrance's home town, was named in his honour. Bob Torrance

Ayrshire golfers and officials were saddened to hear of the death of Ayrshire Golf Associa4on Execu4ve member Cliff Francis on 29th October 2014, at the age of 70.

A re4red Chief Inspector with Strathclyde Police, Cliff was an AGA Execu4ve member since 2009 and was very well known throughout the county with his invaluable contribu4on to both the boys team and our area championships, as well as through his years of work on behalf of his home club Troon Welbeck, as a Past Captain and Club Secretary. Diagnosed with cancer in late 2013, Cliff approached his illness over the last year or so with courage and determina4on, and will be sadly missed by friends and colleagues, but will be remembered for his wit and friendship by many in the Ayrshire golf community and beyond.

Cliff Francis

Less than a month a3er the death of Cliff Francis, the Ayrshire golfing community lost another valued member with the sudden passing of Irvine Ravenspark Golf Club Captain Frank Hannan, on Sunday 23rd November. Frank was well known both within his own club as well as the wider golfing community in Ayrshire, and will be sadly missed. Frank Hannan

Just two days into 2015, Ayrshire golf was rocked by the news that the Champion Of Champions 4tle holder Gary Bryden had passed away at the all to young age of 44. Gary won the Champion Of Champions 4tle for the first 4me just five months before at Royal Troon and his passing stunned his friends and many golfing associates both in Ayrshire and beyond. A na4ve of Girvan, Gary spent his working life as a greenkeeper at Turnberry, and represented Turnberry, Girvan and Troon Welbeck over the years in many compe44ons, enjoying success in many local events.

Gary Bryden

As well as winning the Champion Of Champions 4tle in 2014, Gary was also Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion back in 2001 and was in the Girvan team who won the Ayrshire Club Championship 4tle in 2012 as well as leading the club to three successive league 4tles in the Ayrshire Scratch leagues from 2011 to 2013, in their climb from Division 5 to Division 2. A great team player and one of the true gentlemen of Ayrshire golf, Gary was a regular in the Ayrshire team for many years and his presence in the team room will be sorely missed by team mates and officials alike.

TOURNAMENTS AND COMPETITIONS 2014 AYRSHIRE BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Irvine

Ballochmyle

Declan Chalmers

The Ayrshire Boys Team Championship returned to course it was first played for in 1988, when the tournament took place at Loudoun on Sunday 21st April 2014 as 12 clubs competed for the scratch and handicap trophies.

The Ma5 Lygate Trophy, awarded to the team returning the best scratch score, was won by Irvine Golf Club for the first 4me in the 27 year history of the event.

Although the compe44on was played in perfect condi4ons, the scoring was surprisingly high, with Largs se6ng the early pace in the scratch compe44on, Hamish Mills returning the best scratch score of the day with a six over par 74 which edged out Jack Thomas (Irvine) by virtue of the be5er inward half to win the Prestwick Circuits Trophy for the best individual scratch return. The Irvine team of Jack Thomas, Stuart Easton, Ross McDonald & Sco5 Howat combined for a team total of 232, eight ahead of Largs in third place and six ahead of runners up, Troon Welbeck.

In the handicap compe44on, holders Ballochmyle created their own bit of history by winning the Andrew D Nimmo Trophy for the third successive year, becoming the first club to achieve that feat. Led by a ne5 67 by 17 handicapper Declan Chalmers, which won him the Carrick Trophy for the best individual ne5 score, the team of Chalmers, Robert Clark, Andrew Davidson & Jordan Orr won the handicap trophy by a margin of eight shots from their closest rivals. Fraser Chape (Royal Troon) and Andrew Todd (Skelmorlie) won the two individual handicap classes with ne5 scores of 74 and 70 respec4vely.

One over par scores of 72 in both rounds gave Shanks a total of 144 and a two shot victory over former Irvine club mate Stephen Spence (Royal Troon) in second place. The only sub par round of the day came from Sco5 Brown (Turnberry) who led at the half way stage by one shot from ul4mate winner John Shanks and Mark Anderson (Irvine)

AYRSHIRE MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) won his second Ayrshire Matchplay 4tle on Friday 9th May at Kilmarnock (Barassie) when he beat Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) in the final, which was played a day later than scheduled as the semi finals were suspened on the Wednesday evening due to dangerous condi4ons, and were concluded on the Thursday evening, with the final being pushed back a day.

Hamilton, who won his first 4tle at Western Gailes in 2008, opened the match in perfect style, taking the first hole with a birdie four. His lead was increased to two holes at the third when Wallace bogeyed, but a three pu5 from Hamilton at the next hole saw the lead reduced to one again.

Craig Hamilton

A failure to get up and down a3er missing the fi3h green and a lost ball from the tee at the sixth from Wallace saw Hamlton ease into a comfortable three hole lead, but Wallace fought on, reducing the deficit to two with a birdie four, despite being bunkered, at the eighth. Some indifferent play around the green at the ninth from Wallace allowed Hamilton to restore his three hole advantage at the turn. Hamilton increased his lead to four with a good birdie pu5 at the tenth, but again Wallace came back at him at the following hole, recovering from a pulled tee shot to win the hole with par. Hamilton’s three hole advantage was maintained through twelve and increased to four at the thirteenth when Wallace went through the green with his approach. Four ahead with five to play, Hamilton failed to salvage a par three at the fourteenth and his lead was reduced, but a half at the following hole le3 Hamilton dormie three and when Wallace could only manage a bogey at the sixteenth hole, Hamilton emerged victorious by 4 & 2. In the semi finals, Hamilton beat Stephen Spence (Royal Troon) by 1 hole whilst Wallace beat Sco5 Brown (Turnberry) by 3 & 2. In the quarter final matches, Wallace beat new Strokeplay Champion John Shanks (Irvine) by 2 & 1, Brown beat Kenny Milliken (Troon St Meddans) by 4 & 3, Spence was a 4 & 3 winner over Gordon Boyle (Turnberry) whilst Hamilton beat 4tle holder Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) by 3 & 2.

THE AYRSHIRE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

18 clubs took part in the 2014 Ayrshire Club Championship compe44on, played in sunny but breezy weather at Rowallan Castle on Sunday 6 July, where Prestwick Golf Club won the R.L. Crawford Trophy and Ayrshire Club Champions 4tle for the second 4me in six years. With three of the squad who featured in their previous win, and subsequent victory in the Sco6sh Club Championship in 2009, featuring in the team once again, Prestwick took the 4tle by three shots from runners up, Kilmarnock (Barassie).

Prestwick

Contribu4ng to Prestwick’s winning total, James Bunch also enjoyed the sa4sfac4on of returning the best individual score of the day, his 73 being confirmed as a new Amateur Course Record.

THE AYRSHIRE SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP Allan J Merry (West Kilbride) got a perfect late re4ral gi3 at Prestwick St Cuthbert on Tuesday 15 July 2014 when he won the Sandy Provan Trophy and Ayrshire Seniors 4tle just a few weeks a3er re4ring from business. A field of 65 players enjoyed fine weather, with a tes4ng breeze, as the championship was held at the St Cuthbert course for the first 4me since 1994, and Allan Merry’s ne5 score of 67 off his handicap of eight just edged the 4tle for him, by virtue of the best inward half, over his clubmate Ronald S. Arthur and Ian Lamb (Irvine).

Allan J. Merry

Derek Gemmell (Ayr Dalmilling) returned the best scratch score of the day with a two over par 73, which took the prize by virtue of the be5er inward half, ahead of Sammy Cox (Loudoun). Arthur and Lamb won their respec4ve age categories, whilst the oldest compe4tor in the field, 80 year old Houston Sim (Annanhill) took first place in the over 70 category.

THE AYRSHIRE BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP Jack Thomas (Irvine) dominated the field from start to finish in the 2014 Ayrshire Boys Championship held at Ayr Belleisle on Thursday 7th August, leading from start to win the 4tle by seven shots from his nearest challenger. Playing is glorious condi4ons, Thomas’ opening round of 72 gave him a two stroke lead at the half way stage, but his superb two under par 69 in the a3ernoon dispelled any doubts as to the 4tle des4na4on.

Jack Thomas

The closest challenger to Thomas was Euan Ferguson (Turnberry) with rounds of 76 and 72 giving him a distant runners up place on 148.

Five handicapper Callum Mclean (Kilmarnock Barassie) won the prize for the best ne5 return of the day with rounds of 70 & 69 for a 139 total. AYRSHIRE BOYS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Jack Thomas (Irvine) became the second player in succession to win the Ayrshire Boys Matchplay and Strokeplay 4tles in the same season, when he beat Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck) in the Matchplay final at Prestwick Golf Club on Thursday 21st August. Jack Thomas

Louis Murray (Troon Welbeck) completed the boys county 4tle double in 2013 and Thomas produced his best golf of the week in the final to ensure he would match Murray’s achievement in 2014. Both players opened with pars but a bogey at the second hole put McCrone behind early in the match. Thomas increased his lead with a birdie at the fourth hole and pars at the sevent and eighth were sufficient for Thomas to increase his lead to four.

McCrone reduced the deficit to three at the turn, winning the ninth with par but a double bogey from the Welbeck player at the tenth allowed Thomas to restore his four hole advantage, which he soon increased to five with six remaining, with a par Boys Matchplay Finalists at the long twel3h.

22

McCrone is known for his figh4ng quali4es and he reduced the lead once again with a par at the difficult thirteenth, before a half at the fourteenth le3 Thomas dormie four. A closing par four at the fi3eenth hole was sufficient to give Thomas the 4tle, with a 4 & 3 win.

In the semi finals, Jack Thomas beat Jordan Fraser (Ayr Belleisle) at the 21st whilst Murray McCrone beat Craig McKenzie (Troon Welbeck) by 5 & 3. In the opening round, Thomas beat Ross Meikle (Ayr Belleisle) by 5 & 3, Fraser beat Ross McDonald (Irvine) at the 19th, McCrone beat Euan Ferguson (Turnberry) by 5 & 3 and McKenzie beat Callum McLean (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 2 holes.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY COMPETITION

Gary Bryden (Girvan) won the Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy for the first 4me on Friday 15th August when he edged out Malcolm Pennyco5 (Whi4ng Bay) in a close final at Royal Troon, adding to his previous Ayrshire individual county 4tle success in 2001 when he won the Strokeplay championship.

49 players started out in at the start of the season in a bid to win the 2014 Champion of Champions 4tle. In the semi finals, Bryden received a walkover from Sandy Walker (Ardeer) whilst Pennyco5 beat Adam Sweeney (Largs Routenburn) by 5 & 3 to book his place alongside Bryden in the final, where a new name on the trophy was assured, both players appearing in the final for the first 4me. The match was played in increasingly breezy condi4ons and it was Bryden who took an early lead at the second a3er Pennyco5’s pu5 for a half horshoed the hole and failed to drop. Bryden found the burn from the tee at the third and the match was levelled, but Pennyco5 encountered some of Royal Troon’s notorious bunkers over the next two holes, allowing Bryden to forge a two hole lead a3er five. A par at the long sixth was enough for Pennyco5 to reduce the deficit to one and he squared the match at the seventh following a three pu5 by Bryden. The remaining two holes in the outward half were shared in par and the players turned for home all square.

Gary Bryden

Champion of Champions Finalists

A strengthening wind in the inward nine saw Pennyco5 find trouble at the eleventh, allowing Bryden to edge into the lead again, and his advantage was extended to two holes with a par at the twel3h. Some superb recovery play from Pennyco5 maintained the deficit at just two holes through fourteen, but a lost ball from the fi3eenth tee by Pennyco5 le3 Bryden dormie three. Pennyco5 was not finished however, and he showed all his figh4ng quali4es to take the sixteenth with a birdie, and he also had the be5er of the seventeenth, to take the match to the last hole.

At the final hole, Pennyco5’s tee shot was perfect whilst Bryden found the rough, and he could only play up to the greenside in four shots. Pennyco5’s approach missed the green short, but his approach shot from the rough failed to reach the green. Bryden kept the pressure on with a superb chip to inches from the hole, promp4ng a conceded six, leaving Pennyco5 needing to get up and down to take the match to extra holes. Pennyco5’s chip pulled up ten feet short of the hole and, although his pu5 was good, it clipped the hole and travelled on past, leaving Gary Bryden with a one hole victory and the Champion Of Champions 4tle.

Gary Bryden’s pride and happiness in winning the 4tle he had long strived for, in front of family members, at Royal Troon in August was in stark contrast to the sadness and shock felt throughout Ayrshire golfing circles and beyond following his sudden passing just five months a3er his 4tle victory.

23

FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

45 clubs took part in the 2014 Ayrshire Fourball Championship, which was won by George and David McCulloch (Brunston Castle), who became the first pair to win the 4tle for a second 4me, having previously triumphed in 2012. The final was played at Irvine Golf Club on Sunday 7th September, with the Brunston Castle pair facing Robert Adams and Ian Pirrie (Abbotsford).

Fourball Winners George & David McCulloch The Brunston Castle pair took the early lead winning the

second and sixth holes before their advantage was reduced when the Abbotsford pair won the seventh with a birdie three and then the match was levelled when the Abbotsford duo won the ninth.

Pirrie and Adams went ahead for the first 4me at the tenth but the McCulloch brothers struck back immediately to level again at the eleventh. A fine four from Pirrie at the thirteenth put Abbotsford back in front but a superb 40 foot pu5 for a birdie three from George McCulloch at the fourteenth squared the match once more.

This proved to be a turning point in the match, Pirrie missing a five foot pu5 at the fi3eenth to allow the Brunston castle due to edge into the lead once again, and a winning par three from George McCulloch at the sixteenth le3 Brunston Castle dormie two.

With the McCulloch brothers both finding trouble from the tee at the seventeenth, Pirrie and Adams won the hole to take the match to the last, but solid play at the final hole from the McCulloch’s, coupled with the Abbotsford players missing the green in regula4on, prompted a final hole concession and a two hole victory for George and David McCulloch of Brunston Castle, to secure their second success in the compe44on in three years.
