The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) has just announced a call for emergency grants for Latino cultural workers, artists and arts organizations through the Actos de Confianza program.

Grants for artists are $2,500, while grants to organizations are up to $5,000 and are intended to support the Latino cultural sector hard hit by COVID-19.

“We are clear in our responsibility to stand with humanity in a time of need, and the support we are providing through the Actos de Confianza is an effort to bring a level of relief to artists and arts organizations that continue to bring hope and manifestations of our higher selves,” said NALAC President and CEO María López de León.

The open calls for Actos de Confianza grants, made in collaboration with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Intercultural Leadership Institute (ILI), are coordinated by geographic region.

The first grant was launched on January 13, 2021, for applicants from the central and southern United States; the second grant will be launched on March 3, 2021, for the eastern United States and Puerto Rico; the third grant will be launched on April 28, 2021, for the western United States.

For his part, NALAC Deputy Director Alberto Mejia stated that during the pandemic, NALAC and the ILI partners “have looked to one another, our communities and critical data to deepen decades of intersectional cultural advocacy and practice with a racial and spatial equity

La Asociación Nacional de Artes y Culturas Latinas (NALAC) acaba de anunciar una convocatoria para que los trabajadores culturales latinx, los artistas y las organizaciones artísticas soliciten subvenciones de emergencia a través del programa Actos de Confianza.

Las subvenciones para artistas tienen un monto de 2,500 dólares, mientras que las ayudas a organizaciones son de hasta 5,000 dólares y tienen por objetivo apoyar al sector cultural latinx que ha sido duramente afectado por la COVID-19.

“Tenemos clara nuestra responsabilidad de apoyar a la humanidad en un momento de necesidad, y el apoyo que brindamos a través de Actos de Confianza es un esfuerzo para brindar un nivel de alivio a los artistas y organizaciones artísticas que continúan brindando esperanza y manifestaciones de nuestro yo superior”, dijo la presidenta y directora ejecutiva de NALAC, María López de León.

Las convocatorias abiertas para las subvenciones de ayuda de Actos de Confianza, que se han hecho en colaboración con la Fundación Andrew W. Mellon y el Instituto de Liderazgo Intercultural (ILI), están coordinadas por regiones geográficas.

La primera ayuda se lanzó el pasado 13 de enero de 2021 para solicitantes del centro y sur del país; la segunda convocatoria se lanzará el 3 de marzo de 2021 para el este de Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico; la tercera convocatoria se lanzará el 28 de abril de 2021 para el oeste de Estados Unidos.

Guidelines on the application process are available on the NALAC website.

The selection of candidates will be based, according to the partnership, on social, racial, and geographic equity and justice, with a commitment to supporting Latino, Black and Indigenous creators, Latino artists and cultural workers with disabilities, and diversity in geographic location and landscape.

This NALAC Act of Trust assistance plan began in April 2020 and supported 221 Latino artists and organizations in 28 states and Puerto Rico through grants of approximately $186,000.

Now the program, which began with a budget of $25,000, has grown with the support of individual donors, the Ford Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundation, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Eastside Arts Initiative, and San Antonio Area Foundation. z
