This year’s CSR Conference and EXPO is specifically designed to provide delegates – that’s YOU – with opportunities to interact with like-minded individuals, CSR experts and practitioners; to learn from them, exchange ideas and hopefully, collaborate and make for more positive change and impact for Filipinos and the country.

Since 1991, LCF has been a champion in building a network of corporations, their corporate foundations, business organizations and in steering their initiatives to better contribute to national economic and development goals—this success was a precursor to the establishment of the CSR Week, celebrated on the first week of July by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 299, s.

2000.

The first CSR EXPO in 2001 was a watershed event that strengthened the role of the Philippine business community as a partner of civil society and government, to affect positive change for the nation. This year, the EXPO’s 20th anniversary, reiterates this role more so, as we transition to a new era faced with global uncertainties such as climate change, global warming, economic instability, inaccessible health care, and the challenges that come with post-COVID19 pandemic and recovery.

This year’s theme is “Creating the Future We Need: Striking a Path During a Period of Transition”. This is a call to action to COLLABORATE to find solutions that will bring long-lasting change and IMPACT for the country and our people. How can we design our CSR initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of global warming which affect everyone in the country, in more ways than one?

According to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) released last August 9, 2021, the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change. LCF has invited Helle Bank Jorgensen to guide us on our path of RESILIENT leadership and to be “Stewards of the Future”-- the title of her groundbreaking book focused on ESG or Environmental, Social, and Governance.

This year's logo symbolizes the EXPO’s goal of achieving COLLABORATION between and among stakeholders for longlasting IMPACT that leads to a RESILIENT future-- NOW. The League's Strategic Pillars namely Collective Impact, Practice Leadership, and Institutional Sustainability will pave the way to the future that we need.

A good starting point... management treat suppliers as partners with a shared purpose and strategy... taking similar approach to issues such as the environment and labour practices and adhering to mutually agreed upon standards.

Helle Bank Jorgensen, the opening Keynote Speaker will provide the framework and discuss the best ESG practices adopted by world-leading companies and in turn challenge the Philippines' business sector to take actionable steps towards realizing the future that we need, starting today. Two reactors from the energy sector will join Ms. Jorgensen and contextualize how ESG is practiced in the Philippines.

Lorelie Quiambao-Osial, Country Chair, and first Filipina President and CEO of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation; and Ricardo B. Tantoco, President/COO of the Energy Development Corporation will impart how they direct their companies towards creating sound policies that balance business growth and expansion vis-à-vis the impacts on the environment and society.

Global Warming: Why We Need to Act Now (The IPCC 6th Assessment Report)

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruption in the delivery of education in the Philippines. Even pre-pandemic, the Philippines is already struggling to meet various gaps while trying to take significant steps in improving education quality.

The IPCC 6th Assessment Report focuses on, and assesses the impacts, and vulnerabilities related to global warming and climate change. The topic will highlight the key findings of the report through one of the IPCC authors from the Philippines, Dr. Rodel Lasco, and his analysis on the implications for the Philippines. It will also include recommendations to urgently address global warming.

As the country continues to navigate with the evolving pandemic situation, should schools be fully reopened, or should the country take advantage of the opportunity to evolve education for the future? What can we learn from other countries' experience? What investments and reforms must be done to Philippine Education? What are the roles of various stakeholders in improving the state of Philippine education? These questions will be strived to be answered through this session on Creating the Future of Philippine Education.

Marco Delos Reyes with a Master and Bachelor in Public Administration from National University of Singapore and University of the Philippines will be joined by Lisa Y. Gokongwei-Cheng to answer these questions. Lisa graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Communication). She obtained her Master of Science degree (Journalism) from Columbia University.

Dr. Lasco has over 40 years of experience in natural resources and environmental research, conservation, education and development at the national and international level. His work has focused on issues related to natural resources conservation, climate change and land degradation.

He is an author of several reports of the IPCC, the 2007 co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the Executive Director of the Oscar M. Lopez Center, a private foundation whose mission is to promote action research on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction. He is also a member of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in the Philippines.

Understanding and Preparing for Universal Health Care

Reflecting on the Past and Present on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management: Time to FutureProof

Universal Health Care is a certainty being signed already into law. While the public sector rush to prepare itself for its full implementation, there are areas where the private sector can contribute. The session seeks to explore the details of UHC and how the private sector is and can assist.

Dr. Michael Caampued, President of the Philippine Society of Public Health Practitioners will be provide the basics of UHC as should be understood by the private sector. Ms. Girlie Lorenzo, founder and adviser of Philippine Association of Patient Organizations to discuss needs of teh UHC from the patient's perspective. Dr. Manolet Dayrit, former DOH Secretary to talk on systems that need to be in place to make UHC possible and the role of the private sector in those systems.

Over the years, the country has endured a growing number of natural disasters. As a result, lives, livelihoods, and communities have been damaged or lost. The COVID-19 pandemic and typhoon Odette are testament to the debilitating effects on people, businesses, and economies. Now more than ever, we need to find ways to reduce our vulnerability to natural and climate hazards and build resilience.

This session is aimed at developing an understanding of the various factors driving the global agenda on disaster and resilience, and to identify issues and lessons from Typhoon Odette and Covid-19. The best way forward is to create a system that helps us anticipate and identify different future possibilities and helps to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of today.

Culture, Emerging Art Practices and the Future of Creative Industries

Future-Proofing Social Enterprises towards Community Resilience

The past is irrevocably tied to the present. Yet, how will present actions ensure that the past has continuity and relevance to the future? This session will provide a context on the current state of Filipino cultural heritage preservation, and emerging areas of interest. Afterwards, there will be three breakout sessions that will explore the proposed topics: How top Filipino fashion brands are integrating indigenous culture into their mainstream designs; how artists are using recyclable materials into their works; and an introductory session on Non-Fungible Tokens.

The pandemic caused significant impacts on the lives of people affecting mobility, working conditions, and all aspects of the economy. The impact is significant for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) and the local communities that depend on these. In a world filled with uncertainty, building resilience is not an option but a necessary path forward. As we slowly transition towards recovery, it is important to recognize that building back will no longer be enough. The focus should not only be on establishing or expanding social enterprises to enable more people to benefit, but also ensuring that communities are able to sustain their livelihood and well-being despite environmental, economic, and even social disturbances.

Session will be led by Corazon Alvina, Museum Director, Museo ng Kaalamang Katutubo. Ms. Alvina formerly served as director of the National Museum and of the Metropolitan Art Museum. She earned her degree in Anthropology from the University of the Philippines.

The CSR Guild Awards is an annual recognition for outstanding CSR projects, programs, collaborations, and other initiatives that have sustainable impact to the communities and institutions served. The awards acknowledges outstanding projects, programs, collaborations, and other initiatives within a given period as collectively decided by the member organizations of LCF. The Guild Awards is a reminder for CSR practitioners to continuously identify challenges and to create innovative solutions address them.
