As we herald change and transition during these times in Philippine history, we are enthused to invite you to be a CSR EXPO Delegate.

This year’s expo theme is a call to action: “Creating the Future We Need: Striking a Path During a Period of Transition”.

The CSR EXPO is scheduled for July 4 to 7, 2022; 4 days of online sessions in the mornings and in the afternoons, CSR EXPO PARTNER booths will be open and branded events will take place.

This year’s CSR Conference and EXPO is specifically designed to provide delegates – that’s YOU – with opportunities to interact with like-minded individuals, CSR experts and practitioners; to learn from them, exchange ideas and hopefully, collaborate and make for more positive change and impact for Filipinos and the country.

Since 1991, LCF has been a champion in building a network of corporations, their corporate foundations, business organizations and in steering their initiatives to better contribute to national economic and development goals—this success was a precursor to the establishment of the CSR Week, celebrated on the first week of July by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 299, s.

2000.

The first CSR EXPO in 2001 was a watershed event that strengthened the role of the Philippine business community as a partner of civil society and government, to affect positive change for the nation. This year, the EXPO’s 20th anniversary, reiterates this role more so, as we transition to a new era faced with global uncertainties such as climate change, global warming, economic instability, inaccessible health care, and the challenges that come with post-COVID19 pandemic and recovery.

This year’s theme is “Creating the Future We Need: Striking a Path During a Period of Transition”. This is a call to action to COLLABORATE to find solutions that will bring long-lasting change and IMPACT for the country and our people. How can we design our CSR initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of global warming which affect everyone in the country, in more ways than one?

According to the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) released last August 9, 2021, the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change. LCF has invited Helle Bank Jørgensen to guide us on our path of RESILIENT leadership and to be “Stewards of the Future”-- the title of her groundbreaking book focused on ESG or Environmental, Social, and Governance.

This year's logo symbolizes the EXPO’s goal of achieving COLLABORATION between and among stakeholders for longlasting IMPACT that leads to a RESILIENT future-- NOW. The League's Strategic Pillars namely Collective Impact, Practice Leadership, and Institutional Sustainability will pave the way to the future that we need.

A good starting point... management treat suppliers as partners with a shared purpose and strategy... taking similar approach to issues such as the environment and labour practices and adhering to mutually agreed upon standards.

Helle Bank Jørgensen, the Opening Keynote Speaker, will provide the framework and discuss the best ESG practices adopted by world-leading companies and, in turn, challenge the Philippines' business sector to take actionable steps towards realizing the future that we need, starting today. Two reactors from the energy sector will join Ms. Jorgensen and contextualize how ESG is practiced in the Philippines.

Richard B. Tantoco, President/COO of the Energy Development Corporation; and Lorelie QuiambaoOsial, Country Chair, Shell Companies in the Philippines, and first Filipina President and CEO of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, will impart how they direct their companies towards creating sound policies that balance business growth and expansion vis-à-vis the impacts on the environment and society.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruption in the delivery of education in the Philippines. Even pre-pandemic, the Philippines was already struggling to meet various gaps while trying to take significant steps in improving education quality.

As the country continues to navigate the evolving pandemic situation, should schools be fully reopened, or should the country take advantage of the opportunity to evolve education for the future? What can we learn from other countries' experience? What investments and reforms must be done to Philippine Education?

What are the roles of various stakeholders in improving the state of Philippine education? These questions will be strived to be answered through this session on Creating the Future of Philippine Education.

Marco Delos Reyes has a Master in Public Administration from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines. As the General Manager of Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF), Lisa Y. Gokongwei-Cheng oversees the programs, projects, and initiatives to ensure that they are aligned with GBF’s vision and mission. Aside from leading GBF, she is also the Senior Vice President of Digital Transformation and Corporate Services at JG Summit Holdings, Inc. and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Summit Media Group, as well as Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Summit Media Informatix Holdings, Inc. She graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Communications) in 1990 and obtained a Master of Science degree (Journalism) from Columbia University in 1993.

The IPCC 6th Assessment Report focuses on, and assesses, the impacts and vulnerabilities related to global warming and climate change. The topic will highlight the key findings of the report through one of the IPCC authors from the Philippines, Dr. Rodel Lasco, and his analysis on the implications for the Philippines. It will also include recommendations to urgently address global warming.

Dr. Lasco has over 40 years of experience in natural resources and environmental research, conservation, education and development at the national and international level. His work has focused on issues related to natural resources conservation, climate change and land degradation. He is an author of several reports of the IPCC and the 2007 co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the Executive Director of the Oscar M. Lopez Center, a private foundation whose mission is to promote action research on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction. He is also a member of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in the Philippines.

Over the years, the country has endured a growing number of natural disasters. As a result, lives, livelihoods, and communities have been damaged or lost. The COVID-19 pandemic and typhoon Odette are testament to the debilitating effects on people, businesses, and economies. Now more than ever, we need to find ways to reduce our vulnerability to natural and climate hazards and build resilience.

This session is aimed at developing an understanding of the various factors driving the global agenda on disaster and resilience, and to identify issues and lessons from Typhoon Odette and COVID-19. The best way forward is to create a system that helps us anticipate and identify different future possibilities and helps to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of today.

The past is irrevocably tied to the present. Yet, how will present actions ensure that the past has continuity and relevance to the future? This session will provide a context on the current state of Filipino cultural heritage preservation, and emerging areas of interest. Afterwards, there will be three breakout sessions that will explore the proposed topics: How top Filipino fashion brands are integrating indigenous culture into their mainstream designs; how artists are using recyclable materials into their works; and an introductory session on Non-Fungible Tokens.

Keynote to be delivered by Corazon Alvina, the Director of Museo ng Kaalamang Katutubo. a foundation engaged in museum development, material culture research and conservation, and cultural education. She will provide the Keynote: Cultural Preservation and Misappropriation. Alvina was director of the National Museum of the Philippines (2001-2010), and director, then president, of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (1991-2001). She holds a degree in anthropology from the University of the Philippines. She was among the founding faculty staff of the University of Santo Tomas Graduate School Cultural Heritage Management program (2000-2012), mentoring on museum concerns and issues, ethics, education and interpretation (exhibition design).

The pandemic caused significant impacts on the lives of people affecting mobility, working conditions, and all aspects of the economy. The impact is significant for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) and the local communities that depend on these. In a world filled with uncertainty, building resilience is not an option but a necessary path forward. As we slowly transition towards recovery, it is important to recognize that building back will no longer be enough. The focus should not only be on establishing or expanding social enterprises to enable more people to benefit, but also ensuring that communities are able to sustain their livelihood and well-being despite environmental, economic, and even social disturbances.

This session will discuss how the private sector can further support communities by helping future-proof social enterprises through various lenses. The session will feature Mr. Jaypee Soliman, First Vice President and SME Segment Head of UnionBank of the Philippines, as the resource speaker. He graduated from the De La Salle University with a degree in Behavioral Sciences. He currently leads the group that drives UnionBank’s innovations on banking products, technology, and platform solutions for the MSME market.

Dr. Cielo Magno, Associate Professor in the University of the Philippines’ School of Economics (UPSE), will serve as reactor. She completed her Masters degree in Economics from the UPSE and a PhD in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts as a Fulbright scholar. She has more than 20 years of experience in research and policy work with the public and the private sector, including local and international agencies.

"The Call and Challenge: Providing Filipinos Opportunities to Prosper" [in-person, to be streamed online] The country remains challenged in that 23.7% of its population remains below the poverty threshold and in the year 2021, the Global Hunger Index ranked the country 68th out of 116 with sufficient data to calculate scores.

With a score of 16.8, Philippines has a level of hunger that is moderate.

6.6% was the unemployment rate for year 2021.

There is much to do to Create the Future we Need and, working with government, particularly the financial agencies, therefore, the question is: How can and how should LCF members, and those who passionately promote Financial Inclusion and Corporate Social Responsibility, collaborate and advance their interventions for the betterment of the Filipino people? And, what are the BSP’s program offerings that the corporate and civil society sector can align with, if not build on?

Deputy Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Eduardo Bobier, Corporate Services Sector, will provide the answer, if not the challenge to work together and work in-sync.

The CSR Guild Awards is an annual recognition for outstanding CSR projects, programs, collaborations, and other initiatives that have sustainable impact to the communities and institutions served. The awards acknowledge outstanding projects, programs, collaborations, and other initiatives within a given period as collectively decided by the member organizations of LCF. The Guild Awards is a reminder for CSR practitioners to continuously identify challenges and to create innovative solutions to address them.

This year, there are 20 organizations vying for eight Awards.

The Closing Ceremony of the 20th anniversary of the Conference EXPO and the CSR Guild Awards will culminate with Dr. Alfredo E. Pascual, Secretary* of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), addressing the country’s top CSR practitioners about striking the path and "Working in Collaboration: Government, Corporate Sector and Civil Society for the country, the environment and the Filipino People".

A governance advocate, Mr. Pascual currently serves as the Lead Independent Director (ID) at SM Investments Corp. He is also an ID at other publicly-listed companies, including Megawide Construction and Concepcion Industrial. His board seats include nonprofits and other organizations, such as Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), FINEX Academy, University of the Philippines (UP) Foundation, Philippine Council for Foreign Relations, and US-Philippines Society. He led ICD as President and CEO in 2018-2019.
