KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA) -- The kick-off of World Blood Donors month in Aklan, July 3, had 119 successf blood donors.

Held at City Mall Kalibo, the whole day activity was led by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Provincial Health Office, Department of Health and Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) with the support of the Rotary International District 3850 Rotary Clubs of Kalibo and Metro Kalibo, Metro Kalibo Community Rotaract Club and local government unit of Kalibo.

Blood donors, who came for the event, were of varied ages, a few first timers and some regular donors coming from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, groups like Brotherhood of Aklan Riders, The Guardians, MMS Foundation, friends and family members of Rotary, Kalibonhons and some walk-in individuals, according to ABCC president Melrose Lunn.

Prior to the bloodletting, Dr. Felma de Cruz of the Aklan Medical Society (AMS) and in behalf of the ABCC, gave a short orientation on the importance of donating blood as well as the do’s and and don’ts for people planning to donate blood.

On the other hand, Rotary District 3850 governor Raphy Tayco said that his

legacy project in his stint as Rotary governor aims to help the PRC collect quality blood supply.

Both non-government organizations recently forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) about this initiative, according to Lunn.

The Philippine Red Cross, together with the PHO, DOH and other partners, are targeting to collect sufficient supply of blood to save lives of Aklanons, especially those sick with dengue; victims of vehiclular accidents; those undergoing dialysis and medical operations; and other health issues.

From January to June this year, the PHO has recorded a total of 1,405 cases

The launching was an offshoot of Resolution No. 2019-05, Series of 2019 crafted by PAC-PTD during an emergency meeting called by the group and held July 7 at the Conference Hall of the APPO to help devise ways to control the rising cases of dengue in Aklan.

As of this writing and as recorded by the Aklan Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance and Response Unit (APESRU), dengue cases in Aklan have reached 2,171 with 15 deaths.

MAD, according to Aklan BAGHAY president Ramel Buncalan, is an advocacy program to help fight dengue in the province by soliciting the unity and cooperation of the Aklanon community.

For his part, Major General Dinoh Dolina, the Commander of the Army’s 3 rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division slammed the CPP-NPA Terrorist for continued stockpiling and producing anti -personnel mines which is a clear violation of the Ottawa Treaty, a convention on the prohibition of the use, storing, production and transfer of its kind. He called on LGUs and the Capizeños to declare CPP-NPA Terrorist persona non grata to prevent them from entering and casting terror and violence in the communities.

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz- The Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion thwarted the plan of the CPP-NPA Terrorist to stage atrocities in President Roxas, Capiz.

This, after the troops from 61IB clashed with more or less fifteen (15) members of Sangay sa Partido sa Platoon (SPP)-East, Komiteng Rehiyon – Panay of CPP-NPA Terrorist led by a certain Guning at about 08:20 in the morning of July 05.

According to LTC Joel Benedict Batara, Commanding Officer, 61IB, they received information from the civilian populace on the presence of the fullyarmed CPP-NPA terrorists conducting recruitment activities among minors and planning to conduct atrocities in the area, hence he immediately deployed his troops to conduct combat operations in the said barangay.

“Our troops were approaching the reported area when they were fired upon by the communist terrorists which prompted them to fire back”, LTC Batara said.

The firefight lasted for about twenty (20) minutes before the communistterrorists withdrew towards Barangay Badiangon of same municipality. No one was hurt on the government side while it remains undetermined on the enemy’s side.

Upon scouring the area, the troops recovered the following items: one (1) portable generator, one (1) multi-media projector, two (2) hand grenades, one (1) anti-personnel mine, eight (8) rifle gre-

nades, four (4) back packs, two (2) cellular phones, one (1) container of gasoline, two (2) sacks of rice, and other personal belongings and subversive documents with high intelligence value. The troops are still conducting pursuit operations.

LTC Batara highlighted that, “Our recoveries prove that the CPP-NPA Terrorist is planning to launch attacks not only against government security forces but also with the defenseless civilians.

That’s why I am commending the vigilance of the civilian populace for giving us accurate information on the movements and whereabouts of the communist-terrorists. This is a clear indication that the people are now fed up with the cruelty of the CPP-NPA Terrorist. CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz – The 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division under the leadership of MGen Dinoh Dolina welcomed the 97 police personnel from Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) who will undergo PNP Internal Security Operations (PISO) Training at 3ID Training School (3DTS).

They were warmly welcomed by 3ID officers and enlisted personnel in an Opening Ceremony graced by Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, Director, PRO-7 held at 3ID Grand Stand on July 16, 2019, Tuesday.

The said training is part of the collaborative efforts of the Army and PNP

in implementing internal security operations through the expanded crosstrained training of more or less 30 to 45 days.

It is designed to train and equip PNP personnel with right attitude, knowledge, skills, and capability on public safety in order to secure the people against criminality, violence, terrorism and threats of insurgency.

MGen Dolina, Commander, 3ID emphasized that, “as partner agency in securing the people against any form of

Government troops are now conducting follow-on operations to ensure the security and safety of the civilians and to run after the fleeing CPP-NPA terrorist.

LTC Egberto Dacoscos, Commanding Officer, 62IB ensured the public that the Army will continue to protect the people of Negros and will put an end to NPA’s terroristic activities.

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz – The 62nd Infantry (Hunter) Battalion, 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division figured an encounter with more or less fifteen (15) fully-armed members of the CPP-NPA Terrorist within the borders of Carol-an, Kabankalan and Upper Carol-an, Ayungon all of Negros Occidental at around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday.

C A M P PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz – A total of 256 candidate soldiers took their oath to serve and secure the people and the country in an opening ceremony here, June 09, 2019.

These aspiring soldiers who will compose the CSC Class 606 and 607 - 2019 will undergo a rigid Candidate Soldier Course (CSC) cross trained with Jungle Warfare Mountain Operation Course (JWMOC).

The training that will be handled by the training staff of the 3rd Division Training School (3DTS) will instill discipline among candidate soldiers and make them adept in military doctrines, policies and Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs). They will also learn skills in basic weapons and Army Techniques, Tactics and Procedures (TTPs) in order to prepare them to perform duties in the Infantry Squad. The training will also transform them into reliable, responsive and committed enlisted personnel of the Philippine Army.

Out of 839 registered applicants, only 256 selected aspirants successfully passed the strict and meticulous selection processing standard set by the Philippine Army. They underwent a compre-

hensive and very competitive selection process that include passing the written, physical, and medical exams, trade test, board interviews, and completed the basic clearances from various government agencies.

In his resolution, it stated that there is a need to bring the POW program to Aklan to attend to the backlogs in extending passport services for the residents of Aklan especially those who are in remote places who will have a hard time travelling from the province to Iloilo.

This POW can be a temporary constructive measure to address the immediate need for passport services in Aklan as it awaits its previous request to the DFA to establish a satellite office in Aklan.

Approved during the 136th Regular Session of the 17th Sangguniang Panlalawigan on June 10, 2019 at the SP Session Hall, the said resolution was cosponsored by all Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members.

As June marks the “Dengue Awareness” month, the 17 th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan passed a resolution urging barangay and municipal officials, school authorities, clergy, market administrators and the people of Aklan to pursue heightened awareness campaign for dengue prevention.

Through a resolution sponsored by SP member Nelson D. Santamaria and co-sponsored by SP members Lillian Q. Tirol and Jay E. Tejada, the resolution seeks to remind the public to adopt and practice prevention tips as dengue has already developed into an all-year round disease becoming more common during rainy days when there are more mosquito breeding sites.

According to the Aklan Provincial Health Office, a total of 982 dengue cases have been reported from January 1, 2019 up to May 25, 2019 which is 47%

higher compared to the number of cases reported last year during the same period.

Although the Province of Aklan is not included in the Dengue Watch list, Santamaria said that the public should not be complacent against dengue since there is already a total of nine (9) reported deaths out of those afflicted during the same period.

The said resolution was approved during the 136th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan on June 10, 2019 at the SP Session Hall.

This is their way of showing that they are tired of them persistently pestering their way of life thru extortion, disturbance, and violence. I’m very glad to know that we are indeed working together in obtaining a more secure and progressive environment for the Negrenses.”

Further, Dolina expressed his sympathy to the family and friends of the one killed. “We are saddened that another victim of the CPP-NPA Terrorist’s deception and false promises wasted his life again. With this, we are humbly calling the ranks of the terrorist group to lay down their arms; there is a better and peaceful life waiting for you down here. Your Army alongside with other concerned government agencies is very much willing to help you in your mainstreaming. We are giving you the choice to embrace peace and claim your normal life for bloody and senseless armed struggle will only bring you nothing but death.”

This is the fourth encounter between the government forces and CPP-NPA terrorists in just a span of three weeks.
