KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA6) -- Aklan’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will once again showcase their ingenuity, innovative designs and craftsmanship at the Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival here, to be held on April 24 to 29 at The Trade Hall, Provincial Capitol Grounds, Kalibo, Aklan. The Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival is now on its 21st year, attracting thousands of buyers and visitors, being held at the same time when Aklan celebrates its anniversary as a separate province from Capiz. The products to be showcased will be using indigenous fibers and materials to keep up with the current trends in fashion and lifestyle, according to Ma. Carmen Iturralde, Officer-In-Charge of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here. Iturralde also said that this year, there will be a total of 78 exhibitors representing priority sectors – wearables and homestyle, furniture and furnishings, agri/aqua-based processed foods, 17 One Town,One Product (OTOP) local government units, as well as the horticultural group.

KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA) -- Twelve Aklan towns and 52 barangays were honored here on April 13 at an awarding event organized by the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) at the ABL Sports Complex, Capitol, Kalibo, Aklan. The event, dubbed Gala Dinner: The First Prestigious Sandugo and Blood Galloners Awards Night 2019, aimed to recognize these municipalities and barangays for topping the province’s blood donors list in 2018 – attaining 1 percent or more of their blood collection targets equivalent to 1 percent of their

Targeting to generate sales of P7 million this year in cash and booked orders, the event aims to establish market linkages with potential buyers and sustain business relationship with local MSMEs and showcase the most recent designs in
respective population. Also honored were 28 individuals who are listed by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) here as “blood galloners,” or those who are regularly donating blood. The 12 Aklan towns awarded were Banga, which had the highest percentage of blood collected with 2.60 percent;Tangalan, 2.32 percent; Libacao, 1.52 percent; Ibajay, 1.41 percent; Numancia, 1.26 percent; Batan, 1.20 percent; Buruanga, Kalibo, Madalag, and Malinao, each with 1.10 percent; Lezo, 1.04 percent; and New Washington, 1.01 percent. On the other hand, of the 52 Aklan barangays awardees, 30 were from Banga, 12 from Batan, four from Altavas, three from New Washington, while Malinao, Makato and Balete have one each. From January to December 2018, the province of Aklan, through the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council, the Philippine Red Cross, the Department of Health, Provincial Health Office and the National Voluntary Blood Services Program, was able to collect a total of 9,253
