KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA6) -- Aklan’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will once again showcase their ingenuity, innovative designs and craftsmanship at the Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival here, to be held on April 24 to 29 at The Trade Hall, Provincial Capitol Grounds, Kalibo, Aklan.

The Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival is now on its 21st year, attracting thousands of buyers and visitors, being held at the same time when Aklan celebrates its anniversary as a separate province from Capiz.

The products to be showcased will be using indigenous fibers and materials to keep up with the current trends in fashion and lifestyle, according to Ma. Carmen Iturralde, Officer-In-Charge of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here.

Iturralde also said that this year, there will be a total of 78 exhibitors representing priority sectors – wearables and homestyle, furniture and furnishings, agri/aqua-based processed foods, 17 One Town,One Product (OTOP) local government units, as well as the horticultural group.

KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA) -- Twelve Aklan towns and 52 barangays were honored here on April 13 at an awarding event organized by the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) at the ABL Sports Complex, Capitol, Kalibo, Aklan.

The event, dubbed Gala Dinner: The First Prestigious Sandugo and Blood Galloners Awards Night 2019, aimed to recognize these municipalities and barangays for topping the province’s blood donors list in 2018 – attaining 1 percent or more of their blood collection targets equivalent to 1 percent of their

Targeting to generate sales of P7 million this year in cash and booked orders, the event aims to establish market linkages with potential buyers and sustain business relationship with local MSMEs and showcase the most recent designs in

respective population.

Also honored were 28 individuals who are listed by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) here as “blood galloners,” or those who are regularly donating blood.

The 12 Aklan towns awarded were Banga, which had the highest percentage of blood collected with 2.60 percent;Tangalan, 2.32 percent; Libacao, 1.52 percent; Ibajay, 1.41 percent; Numancia, 1.26 percent; Batan, 1.20 percent; Buruanga, Kalibo, Madalag, and Malinao, each with 1.10 percent; Lezo, 1.04 percent; and New Washington, 1.01 percent.

On the other hand, of the 52 Aklan barangays awardees, 30 were from Banga, 12 from Batan, four from Altavas, three from New Washington, while Malinao, Makato and Balete have one each.

From January to December 2018, the province of Aklan, through the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council, the Philippine Red Cross, the Department of Health, Provincial Health Office and the National Voluntary Blood Services Program, was able to collect a total of 9,253

The Department of Trade and Industry- Aklan once again will hold its annual marketing activity, the Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival 2019, with the theme: “Exploring Digital Opportunities to Maximize Growth” on April 24-29, 2019 at the Trade Hall, Capitol Grounds, Kalibo, Aklan.

The provincial trade fair, on its 21st year celebration, aims to exhibit new designs and products of eighty (80) Aklanon entrepreneurs, especially in piña and abaca fabrics as well as to establish market linkages with domestic and international markets.

The week-long fair will feature a wide array of products from various municipalities and industries in Aklan.

These would include Indigenous Fibers and Crafts, Gifts, Housewares and Fur-

nishings, Processed Food and Pasalubong Products, and Health & Wellness.

This marketing event is a publicprivate partnership project of DTIAklan, Provincial Government of Aklan, Hugod Aklanon Producers Association Inc., Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority, Aklan Piña and Indigenous Fibers Manufacturers and Traders Association, and Aklan Horticultural Society.

DTI hopes to attract more visitors and buyers for this year’s fair as it coincides with the week-long celebration of Aklan Day. The exhibit will start at 9AM to 8PM daily with an opening ceremony on April 24, 2019 at 2PM. (DTIAklan)

SAN CARLOS, Negros Occidental – At least 257 former mass supporters of the CPP-NPA Terrorist staged an indignation rally against the communist terrorist group to culminate their 2-day Live-in seminar on April 07, 2019.

These individuals are residents of barangay Quezon, Guadalupe, Nataban, Codcod and Buluangan all of San Carlos City.

The protesters marched in the streets of the city proper carrying placards and tarpaulins denouncing the CPP-NPA Terrorist. They also expressed their fervent desire for a peaceful and NPA-free community.

To highlight the said activity, the protesters burned the CPP-NPA Terrorist flags as their way of showing their disgust to the group.

Earlier, the 257 former mass supporters underwent 2-day live-in seminar that commenced last April 06 at San Carlos Auditorium. It was conceptualized by the 79th Infantry Battalion under the leadership of Lt. Col. Emelito Thaddeus Logan in partnership with the 33rd CMO Company of the 3rd Civil Military Operations Battalion. The seminar was filled with discussions about the ills of communism.

Leiutenant Colonel Emelito Thaddeus Logan said “This is the result of our strategized localized peace talk initiatives in collaboration with the PNP,

LGU-San Carlos and other government agencies in Negros. Our collaboration successfully reached out to the families and immediate communities of the members of the CPP-NPA Terrorist to make sure that the purpose of our initiatives will be understood by these individuals.

Aside from our sincerity in helping them start a new life, their decade long sufferings from the cruelty of the communist terrorist group made them decide to desert the communist terrorist group.”

It can be recalled that in February of 2019 alone, a total of 229 former supporters of CPP-NPA Terrorist from the insurgency-affected barangays of Sagay, Escalante, Cadiz, Victorias and San Carlos Cities and the municipalities of Manapla and E.B Magalona took their oath of allegiance to the government. It was followed by the surrender of 25 members of the CPP-NPA Terrorist with firearms last March 02, and the surrender of 27 former Yunit Militias and Mass Supporters from Barangay Paitan, Escalante City who also yielded their firearms last March 31, 2019.

NGCP’s Project Baro, one of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, gets a boost as renowned fashion designer Rajo Laurel recently signed an Agreement to use the project’s products for NGCP’s corporate uniform in 2020.

Project Baro is a sustainable livelihood project that aims to promote and sustain the indigenous art of weaving in the country. It hopes to improve the economic conditions of its partner communities by building their capacities. Aside from the provision of trainings on various weaving techniques, raw materials and equipment to weavers, the project will also help increase their income through market linkage and access.

“It is important for the project to go full circle as the equipment and trainings will find no use if there is no market for them to sell their goods,” said NGCP. The collaboration between NGCP and Laurel will see the use of Iloilo’s Hablon fabric, produced by member-weavers of the Miagao Weavers’ Association (MWA), in NGCP’s corporate uniforms.

Laurel’s company, Laurel et Ross, which has been in the business of masterfully crafting uniform designs since 2001, will oversee the design and production of said uniforms.

“We believe that we should not stop our efforts by just giving them tools and trainings, but also keep them relevant by linking the communities with local and international entrepreneurs who are able to see the quality and design of Filipinos,” explained NGCP. Laurel, for his part, expressed his excitement over the project. “Weaving is a very strong, significant symbol of our country. Miagao is one of the most popular weaving communities and it is very important to not allow this identity to disappear. I’m very happy that NGCP got me for this project as this will help a lot of weavers,” Laurel said.

Around 75 weavers are expected to benefit from the project.

Aside from the MWA, NGCP also supports member-weavers of Kalinga Indigenou s Weaver s’ Association (KINWA) Etnika in Kalinga and Buhi OTOP Key Players Association (BOKPA) in Camarines Sur. Both associations supply NGCP with their products and Continued on page… 04

Hand wash Facility was turned over to the faculty members and pupils of Sanggutan Elementary School, Brgy Polopiña, Concepcion, Iloilo by the 552nd Engineer Construction Battalion, 53rd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army on 22 March 2019. The construction formally started on 25 February 2019 and was completed on 22 March 2019 with the duration of twenty-five (25) working days.

The hand wash facility project was constructed by the 552nd Engineer Construction Battalion, 53rdEngineer Brigade, Philippine Army through Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with Sanggutan Elementary School. The purpose of PPA is to include the role of the concern party and outlined all underlying agreement which both parties approved therein. The PPA also ensured that all agreement will be met and performed faithfully by concerned parties for the successful completion of the project.

Sanggutan Elementary School is one of the public elementary school which was greatly devastated by the typhoon “Yolanda” way back in 2013. It is located at sitio Sanggutan Brgy Polopiňa with an approximately eight (8) kilometers away from the mainland of Concepcion and can be reached by riding a boat for about forty-five (45) minutes travel time.

The malnourishment rate of the pupils is at 30% per evaluated by the Department of Health (DOH) Concepcion considering that the people in the area completely rely on fishing only.

Mrs Lucia P Lamero, the school principal, had expressed her gratitude to the successful completion of the project. He said that this facility will benefit more than three-hundred (300) enrolled pupils coming from two (2) barangays namely, Brgy. Igbon and Brgy. Polopiňa all of Concepcion, Iloilo as well as the twelve (12) teaching staff. This will also help the school to ensure safe and conducive learning environment and enable children to be in best condition to participate and learn in school.

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz- Combined elements from 62nd Infantry Battalion and 94th Infantry Battalion encountered members of CPPNPA Terrorist at Sitio Mansuluway, Barangay Cabcaban, Bindoy, Negros Oriental on April 14, 2019.

The Operating troops were conducting combat operations at the vicinity in response to the reports from locals regarding the presence of CNTs in the area when they encountered more or less twenty (20) CPP-NPA terrorists at around 6:50 in the morning.

No casualties on the government side while it remains undetermined on the enemy’s side as there were blood stains seen in the area.
