KALIBO, Aklan, (PIA6) --Eight women organizations in Aklan were recently feted during the province’s celebration of the 2019 Women’s Month in recognition of their outstanding contributions and initiatives to sustainable development, food security, peace, and their efforts to end poverty in their respective areas. The 2019 Women’s Month celebration in Aklan was held March 22 at the ABL Sports Complex in Kalibo, spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Aklan through the Aklan Gender and Development Commission (AGADC). KALIBO, AKLAN, (PIA) -- Seven graduating campus journalists from Aklan qualified to receive this year’s IWAG Award. The IWAG Award is an incentive scheme designed by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Region 6 to recognize graduating campus publication writers, both college and high school, who excel in development communication through campus journalism. Of the seven awardees in the province, six are graduating from high school and one from college. The successful high school awardees are: Alec Julian A. Templonuevo of the Scholar’s Gazette publication and Hazel Anne V. Cipriano of Ang Pahayagang Iskolar, both from Regional Science High School for Region 6 (RSHS for R6), who got ratings of 91.83 and 87.50 percent respectively; and Rhea Grace T. Custodio (88.83 percent) of the
Women Producers Cooperative/Pinay Boracay of Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan, Makato Women’s Council Association (MWCA) of Makato, Aklan, Rural Improvement Club of Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan Empowered Women Association of Aklan (EWAA), Altavas Local Council of Women, Batan Rural Improvement Club – Mandong Chapter, and Soroptimist International of Kalibo. T h e s e w o m en or g an i z a t i o n s / cooperatives are all active in rural life and were already recognized and awarded in the local, regional and national levels. They are also the first batch of awardees and the province of Aklan and AGADC hope to sustain this gesture next year and onwards.

Tintang Espektro of Makato Integrated School. Also included in the list are Angelee L. Morandante of Pagsip-eak publication and Jed Nykolle B. Harme of The Viewfinder, both from Linabuan National High School (LNHS) who obtained ratings of 90.67 percent and 88.83 percent, respectively; and Hazel Anne V. Cipriano from the Garcian High Publication of Garcia College of Technology High School with a rating of 87.50 percent. The lone awardee in the college level in Aklan is Jessy Anne Louise T. Belinario of The Aklan Collegian of Aklan Catholic College with a rating of 89.00 percent. All nominees from Aklan who submitted their entries this year qualified to receive the said award from PIA6. Each of the awardees shall be given a special medal and citation during their school’s graduation or recognition day. (LTP/SQP/PIA6 Aklan) Aside from honoring Aklan’s outstanding women’s organizations, other highlights of the observance on March 22 were the Governor’s Address to Aklanon Women, Message on women’s Rights, and Serbisyo Para Kay Juana. Governor Florencio T. Miraflores was represented by Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Jay Tejada while SP Member Lilian Q. Tirol, the lone lady member of the Aklan SP, gave the message on Women’s Rights. The Serbisyo Para kay Juana, on the other hand, were provided by various government agencies mostly members of AGADC like the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Labor and employment, Department of Health, Department of Agrarian Reform, Philippine national Police, Department of Public Works and Highways,Public Attorney’s Office, Office of the Provincial Agriculture and many other government agencies.
