SWAN LAKE –THE NEXT GENERATION
Celebrating 30 Years of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake.
For three decades, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake has been dazzling audiences, breaking boundaries, and redefining what dance can be. Now, in its 30th year, a new generation is invited to experience this legendary show. Whether you’ve seen it before or are completely new to ballet or contemporary dance, there’s no better time to experience the magic!
Since premiering in 1995, Matthew Bourne’s radical reinvention of Swan Lake has turned tradition on its head. Gone were the traditional female swans – in their place, a powerful, all-male ensemble of swans that exuded raw strength, grace and intensity. The result? A production that was daring, emotional and completely unforgettable. It shattered convention, won countless awards (including an Olivier and multiple Tonys®), and became the longest-running dance theatre production in the West End and on Broadway. Quite simply, it changed the dance landscape forever.
What makes this Swan Lake so special is its breathtaking choreography – Matthew Bourne’s storytelling is vivid, full of drama, and packed with stunning visuals that will stay with you

long after the final bow. Then, there’s the iconic score by Tchaikovsky, which takes on a whole new life in this bold interpretation. Add to that, striking designs from Lez Brotherston (set and costume) and Paule Constable (lighting design), a gripping narrative, and a fresh energy that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. It may be in its 30th year but its energy and element of surprise feels just as fresh, vigorous and groundbreaking as it did in 1995.
Matthew Bourne said, ‘As our swans take flight once more in this major revival, I’m full of anticipation for the challenges it will bring for our next generation of dancers and the wonder that it will bring to audiences who will experience it for the very first time.’
This 30th anniversary UK tour isn’t just a celebration, it’s a chance to see a masterpiece in its prime. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a total newcomer, Swan Lake is an experience that will leave you breathless.
Book your tickets now and let Swan Lake take you on a journey like no other!

Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake
Matthew Bourne’s audacious, rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered almost 30 years ago.

It has now become the most successful dance theatre production of all time, creating new audiences and inspiring generations of young dancers. In celebration of that ongoing impact, Swan Lake will take flight once more in a major new revival for the next generation of dancers, and for audiences who will experience it for the very first time.
Thrilling, bold, witty and emotive, this genre-defining event is still best known for replacing the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered convention, turning tradition on its head.

A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The timeless music of Steps unfolds as a backbeat to an incredible story in this long-awaited musical.
With 22 million record sales and 500 million streams under their belts, Steps are the UK’s most successful mixed-gender band ever. Since coming to fame in 1997 with 5,6,7,8, Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee have notched up 14 top five singles and four no.1 albums, and have sold-out arenas across 11 tours. So why has it taken so long for a Steps musical to reach the stage?
It turns out they’ve been waiting for the dovetailing of the perfect story with the right creative team. Lisa says: ‘We’ve been talking and dreaming about this for around ten years. It’s taken time to find all the right components.’
HERE & NOW, which draws its title from their 2001 single of the same name, isn’t the Steps story. It’s an all-new narrative, with Claire saying: ‘This is a completely standalone story and the characters aren’t based on us. We wanted it to be its own tale and let the music do the talking.’
Among the band’s numerous hits are the number one’s Tragedy, Heartbeat and Stomp along with One for Sorrow, Better Best Forgotten, Last Thing on My Mind, Chain Reaction and so many more. With an embarrassment of riches, how have they decided which ones to include in the show?
H grins proudly: ‘That’s the problem but it’s a nice problem to have. It’s the same as when we go on tour. It’s really difficult knowing which songs to perform and which songs to leave out. With this musical the only difference is thinking about the lyrical content of how they fit within a narrative.’
Faye adds: ‘With this show, we were very conscious of making sure that the story and the characters were exactly right and that the people who are our fans, as well as everybody else, would be able to relate to it.’
The fivesome are known for their spectacular live shows and they promise HERE & NOW will also be a treat for the eyes and ears. ‘Everybody needs escapism in their life at some point and that’s what we’re bringing with this musical.’ Lee says: ‘We’ve always said no matter what’s going on in your life you can come to one of our shows, put it all aside for two hours and have a great time. If we manage that with the musical too then we’ve done our job.’
Faye adds: ‘We can’t wait for everyone to see the incredible show we have had a part in creating. You are going to love it!’
