It is always amazing to grow in leadership and grow in sisterhood when we get together. As Madam Supreme Basileus Soror Danette Anthony Reed would say “The Sisterhood is LIVE!” During the Great Great Lakes Region Undergraduate Round-up and Basilei Retreat, this is an incredible opportunity not only to gain knowledge on how to better serve chapters and our community but to “Strengthen Our Sisterhood,” and spark the spirit that OUR Sisterhood is no longer digitized. I encourage you to meet a new Soror, have lunch, exchange contact information, and truly stay in touch.

Undergraduates, cherish this weekend together; it will surely be memorable. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® offers leadership opportunities on all levels, from being a Basileus on the chapter level to being an Undergraduate Member-at-Large on the International level. This is your time to figure out your leadership style and how you want to leave a legacy. If you have the desire to serve our illustrious sorority, take the leap of faith. Email the Regional Director to inquire about undergraduate leadership opportunities, apply for Leadership Fellows, or run for an office in your chapter. If you take the first step, this weekend’s experiences can be the start of YOUR leadership journey.

Chapter Basilei, your continued commitment and dedication to our sisterhood is admirable and greatly appreciated. You have the power to continue to touch the lives of women, children, and men who look to us as beacons of hope who shine a light with the promise of a better tomorrow. We, my sisters, must use our hearts and minds to make a difference. You’ve proven you can do it, and I encourage you never to forget the capacity you have to make a difference.

I hope all sorors attending the Great Great Lakes Region Undergraduate Round-up and Basilei Retreat have a wonderful time and that you all SOAR to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.

Always Yours in Service,

Soror Imani Butts
