Dear Sorors:

Welcome to the 2022 Cluster Season! Implementation of the International Programs will be the focus of this Cluster Season. Sorors will have an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, information, and best practices to ensure the successful implementation of the International Program “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.” I know that under the leadership of the Great Lakes Regional Director, Soror Gwendolyn Kirtley sorors will implement the programs with fidelity and Sisterly Service.

We are excited that sorors will have an opportunity to meet in person and reacquaint themselves with sorors we have missed over the last three years during Cluster Season due to Covid. We know that as a Sisterhood we are “Greater Together!”

The Cluster meeting will provide an opportunity for chapters to highlight the accomplishments of their chapter and the sorors in their chapters. We will start the Cluster Meetings in Utica, NY, continue to Pittsburgh, PA, then on to Novi, Southern Ohio, back over to Beckley, Southern Ohio, and our final Cluster meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio.

We are excited that you are planning to join us in this in-person Cluster Season. I want to personally thank Sorors Tanya L. Davis, Alexandria T. Brown, Staci Freeman Smith, Jasmine Fox, Vanessa Coakley, Makayla Sumrall, Antionette Brooks, Arianna Spaulding, Shannon Teague, and Mackenzie Fields. These Graduate and Undergraduate Cluster Coordinators have worked to ensure that each of you have an informative and actively engaging Cluster meeting.

In addition, I extend a heartfelt thank you and appreciation to our host chapters and the leadership of the host chapters. To my Oh So Pretty Sorors,

Welcome to the 2022 GREAT Great Lakes Region Cluster Conference! I am beyond blessed to hold the position of Undergraduate Great Lakes Cluster Coordinator. As my last semester begins, I am ecstatic to spend it traveling to meet my fellow sorors across the region and make meaningful connections.

I would like to thank Madam Regional Director Gwendolyn Kirtley and her team, Graduate Great Lakes Cluster Coordinator Geraldine Horton, and all my Graduate and Undergraduate Cluster Coordinators who have worked tirelessly to make this Cluster one of a kind. I would also like to thank my graduate advisors, Soror Tamra Billinghurst-Black and LaToya Smith and my Omega sorors for supporting me while taking on this new position.

As we start today’s programs, I hope that you’re able to grasp new concepts and develop new ideas to integrate into your remarkable chapters. As you soak in all this information today, don't forget to get a few laughs in and say hello to those sorors you haven't seen in a while but also make new connections, and exchange numbers because at the end of the day we are extremely blessed to be able to gather together as one to serve the greatest sorority.

Sisterly, Selena Carter

Greetings sorors of the Southern Ohio Cluster,

I’m delighted to extend to you a heartfelt welcome to the 2022 Southern Ohio Cluster in Mason, Ohio. It’ s my privilege and pleasure to serve as your Graduate Southern Ohio Cluster Coordinator. I will ensure you get the most out of every cluster conference experience.

Soror Mackenzie Fields, Undergraduate Southern Ohio Cluster Coordinator, and I have worked diligently with this year ’s host chapter. This is a record setting year of over 560 sorors in attendance at the Southern Ohio Cluster hosted by Phi Psi Omega Chapter of Forest Park, Ohio. Soror Carolyn Patton, Basileus, Soror Alisha Mitchell, Cluster Chairman and Sorors Michelle Bush and Miranda Williams, Co-Chairmen have done a wonderful job in leading the Cluster Planning Committee. They have put their best foot forward to present a beautiful, engaging, and sisterly environment for sorors in our cluster to enjoy.

The shared focus of the regional and international administrations is to strengthen our sisterhood and how we successfully connect to accomplish the goals of the organization. This year’s cluster theme is Greater Together in Service and Sisterhood focusing on our strength as a unit striving to grow and learn together. The conference content will include a deeper introduction of the sorority’s international program and updates regarding membership. To add, you’ll hear the direction we will be moving toward around Standards and Sisterly Relations.

This Cluster serves as an opportunity for many of us to reengage with large group activities within Alpha Kappa Alpha. In doing so, I hope you are inspired today to reconnect, love and learn. We are back and ready to fulfill our commitment to the organization keeping in mind that we can accomplish anything because we are Greater Together.

Thank you for attending the Southern Ohio Cluster. I hope your time is productive and meaningful and I wish you a beautiful and sisterly time.

Sisterly, Shannon D. Teague

To My Supreme Sorors,

Welcome to the GREAT Great Lakes Region Southern Ohio Cluster Conference! Serving as the Southern Ohio Undergraduate Cluster Coordinator has once again reminded me of how blessed and highly favored I am to be able to be a part of a sisterhood and legacy so great, so supreme, and so phenomenal!

I also would like to thank and welcome Madam Regional Director Gwendolyn Kirtley and her team, Southern Ohio Graduate Cluster Coordinator Shannon Teague, and all Great Lakes Cluster Coordinators, undergraduate and graduate who have demonstrated their devotion to our sisterhood through all of their attention and action to make this cluster one for the books!

Moreover, I would also like to offer my thanks to my graduate advisor Soror Sharron Moon as well as my Omicron chapter sorors. Thank you all for your support and encouragement.

As we begin our conference, I pray that you all will be able to leave with clarity and understanding of both old and new information. Further, I hope that you will be confident in your chapters’ plans of actions as you all move forward with the information provided here. Remember to make time to create connections with new sorors, learn from older sorors, and gather some outfit inspiration for the next conference! Honestly, I should give the vendors a “thank you” for that!

Of course, the latter part of that message was written with a giggle, and with that, remember to share a smile with a soror before you depart! As we all strive to provide supreme service to all mankind, who knows what types of innovative, insightful, and impactful programs could be started by sharing a sisterly smile? Keep this in mind sorors!

Have a blessed time, Mackenzie Fields

SORORITY

In 1962, chapters in Wilberforce, Dayton, and Cincinnati gathered in Wilberforce for the first Tri-City Founders’ Day celebration. The idea was inspired by Soror Jane Brame, Beta Eta Omega Chapter and Soror Arlevia Powell, Sigma Omega Chapter. This observance served as the foundation for the creation of the Cluster concept for the Sorority on the regional and international levels. SouthernOhioSororswerevisionarycollaborators.

Fourteen years later, Tri-City Founders’ Day became Quad-City Founders’ Day when Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter of Columbus joined the group. The practice of meeting during the month of February continued through 1995 and then changed to a fall Cluster format in November of that year. This change synchronized the schedule with the other Great LakesRegionClusters.

The Lambda Mu chapter held an event titled “Unpretty” discussing the harmful effects of social media and culture on women's perception of themselves. This was uplifting and impactful for young women on Miami University's campus. In addition, the chapter was able to raise money towards Breast cancer awareness and research for the national impact day. This effort was impactful in awareness for the campus, and in giving money to support the cause. The success of this program was large in the ability to raise $227 in just one day. The Lambda Mu chapter was able to host an event in collaboration with Miami University's Multicultural Business Association, titled “The Game of Life”. This allowed students to explore how their life would be based on different financial situations, and the implications associated with certain choices. This was impactful in it being a fun event for those to participate in, as well as being educational in nature. Another success from this program was an event titled “PinkdIn” which was a professional development meeting highlighting resume building to make strides to a successful career, to build an economic legacy.
