The Marine North Berwick Guide to…

The Autumn & Winter Trip

Our go-to guide of eight must-stop spaces, come rain or shine.

TIP 2: Discover Scotland’s Only Concorde

Aviation buff? Or perhaps you’d just like a little learning on your trip. Home to Scotland’s world-class collection of aircraft – with particular kudos for Scotland’s only Concorde – The National Museum of Flight is one of East Lothian’s most loved attractions, particularly when the sun doesn’t shine. Swot up about the history of all things aircraft, dating back to the models used in WW1.

TIP 3: Sip on Glenkinchie’s Water of Life

Discover one of Scotland’s most charming distilleries. Set among the beauty of sweet-scented wildflowers, Glenkinchie is at home on a large area of farmland. This Victorian distillery boasts an orchard garden and is the iconic lowlands home of Johnnie Walker Malt.

TIP 4: Get Your Culture Fix at the Coastal Communities Museum

Travel through time to experience the rich history of our beloved stretch of East Lothian coastline. Handily located above the North Bewick library, you’ll find the Coastal Communities Museum – offering a nod to the history of not only its immediate surroundings, but the neighbouring historic villages of Dirleton, Gullane, Aberlady and Whitekirk. A registered charity run by passionate volunteers, you’ll discover a changing calendar of exhibitions and events throughout the autumn and winter months.

TIP 5: Visit the Home of North Berwick Gin

Time for another tipple? This award-winning eco-distillery is home to North Berwick Gin, voted as the very best London Dry Gin in the world. Stop by and take a behind-the-scenes tour, where you’ll learn all about what it takes to create this awardwinning spirit. You’ll also enjoy a ‘flight’ of three of their select gins – making any visit all the more worthwhile.

TIP 6: Hit the Shops For Some Speciality Retailers

Come the chillier months, there’s nothing like the warmth of some retail therapy. Head into North Berwick town centre to take a stroll around its selection of unique and speciality shops. To make your trip easier, our team has rounded up some of our favourites if you’re not sure where to start: Norden, Greens & Blues Gallery, Time & Tide and WhyNot?

TIP 7: Catch a Train for a Day in Edinburgh

While there’s plenty to see and do in North Berwick, make the most of our proximity with a trip to the iconic city of Edinburgh. Located just 25 miles from North Berwick and easily accessible by train, the capital is not one to miss during your time in Scotland. Being a certified UNESCO City of Literature, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and often referred to as one of the best cities in the world – it’s a non-negotiable stop-off on any visit.

TIP 8: Find Serenity at our Spa

Raining outdoors? Then why even leave the hotel at all? Whatever the weather, there’s always a reason to head straight to our spa. Relax by the pool and in the thermal suite or treat yourself to one of our many spa treatments. From facials to massages and nail services to body wraps – your hardest decision will be which to pick first.
