A YEAR OF GROWTH
From family law to immigration, property, corporate and litigation it has been another very busy twelve months for us here at Spector Constant & Williams, and a period of continued growth.
We have further strengthened our property litigation offering with the appointment of leading property litigation lawyer David Smith as a partner. David brings extensive experience in property litigation, property regulation, and data protection, with a particular focus on
residential tenancies and agency law. Recognised nationally for his work in landlord and tenant law, David is a highly regarded advocate and advisor with a proven track record of success in courts at every level.
Likewise, our corporate and commercial team has grown further in both strength and numbers with the appointment of Nadia Asher as partner, bringing with her a wealth of expertise in M&A, intellectual property, investments and complex commercial contracts work in sectors as diverse as technology, hospitality, healthcare, retail and real estate. Nadia also has extensive experience in non-contentious employment work and finance work.
Our Real Estate Investment and Finance team also continues to grow and is now 20-strong. The team was recently recognised for the first time by independent guide to the legal profession, Legal 500 alongside our Commercial Litigation team.
Our litigation team continues to be in demand, and has been acting on several high profile cases including representing Cabo Concepts Limited, a toy manufacturer, in a multi-million pound IP and competition dispute with MGA.
LOOKING OUTWARDS
As we come together at this year’s AJBN conference, it’s worth looking beyond our own sectors to the wider market forces shaping the landscape for business. Over the past few years, we’ve all become accustomed to change. We’ve come through the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing global instability as well as facing shifting domestic policies and economic headwinds. The last twelve months have continued to require adaptability and resilience.
Following a year of high inflation and rising interest rates, the government has set out an agenda focused on stimulating growth through planning reform, investment in infrastructure, enhancing support and removing barriers to trade and finance for SMEs, and a renewed push on housing delivery. Strengthened rights for workers and tenants are also on the horizon, signalling a broader shift in economic and social priorities.
Attention now turns to the Autumn Budget, which is expected to provide much-needed clarity for business owners and investors alike.
REAL ESTATE OUTLOOK
In the commercial property area, the market has been mixed. Prime, ESG-compliant office space in London is attracting demand and commanding rising rents, while older, less efficient building stock is under pressure from rising maintenance and compliance costs.
Vacancy rates remain elevated overall, and many landlords are in delicate negotiations with lenders over loan covenants. In many cases using strategies like “extend and pretend” to delay distress in a weak valuation environment. Data centres and infrastructure-linked property continue to buck the trend, showing strong investment interest amid demand for digital and cloud capacity.
M&A ACTIVITY: SIGNS OF RENEWED CONFIDENCE
Despite global uncertainty, the UK remained a standout destination for dealmaking in Europe in 2024, recording 3,486 deals worth $248.6 billion. Public M&A saw a marked increase in aggregate deal value, driven by the return of larger transactions.

momentum began to build in early 2025, with 83 more PE exits recorded in the first quarter compared with the previous period. While exit volumes still need to rise further to clear the backlog of portfolio companies, the uptick signals a gradual revival of confidence in the sector.
For many in the AJBN community, the message is clear: adaptability and optimism remain key. As businesses position themselves for the next phase of growth, the combination of improving market sentiment and policy direction from the Autumn Budget could mark the start of a more stable and opportunity-rich period ahead.
A NEW CHAPTER FOR UK SCALEUPS
For years, the UK has been known as an incubator economy a place where startups flourish but often struggle to scale, relocate abroad, or are snapped up by international investors. That perception may finally be changing.
Midway through 2025, data from startup intelligence platform Tracxn revealed that late-stage funding for UK fintechs surged dramatically in the first half of the year compared with both halves of 2024. After years of stagnation, this marked a major

turnaround for the sector, long seen as the jewel in the crown of UK innovation.
What’s more, fresh Tracxn data released this autumn suggests fintech’s success is no longer an exception. Across the wider UK tech industry, late-stage investment totals have remained strong through the first nine months of 2025. Hopefully this signals a broader recovery in the country’s ability to support scaling businesses.
While caution remains the trend points to renewed investor confidence in the UK’s ability to nurture growthstage companies. For entrepreneurs, investors and advisors across the AJBN network, it’s a welcome sign that Britain’s innovation economy may finally be entering a new, more mature phase of expansion.
