The American International School Chennai (AISC) was established in 1995 as a nonprofit, independent, co-ed day school located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. In the 2024–2025 school year, AISC has ~767 students in Early Years to Grade 12, representing 26 nationalities. AISC is accredited by the Middle States Association.
In both our Early Years and Elementary classrooms, one of our primary goals is to create a thriving classroom community where students feel safe, included, and a sense of belonging. Our teachers create that environment by getting to know their students individually, facilitating daily morning meetings, and allowing students voice and choice throughout the day.
The multi-age Early Years Program at AISC utilizes a play-based curriculum that allows children to explore and create as they pursue their own interests. We believe children learn best when provided with opportunities to grow and develop through play. Because we believe each child is a unique individual, our Early Years Program provides inclusive settings that recognize children’s varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles.
TO GRADE 5
Our Kindergarten to Grade 5 classes have their own distinct set of events, projects, and units that are specifically planned with the developmental stages of the child in mind. Our curriculum is continually evolving to be further personalized, inquiry-driven, and play-based to best meet the needs of our youngest and oldest AISC learners. In addition to subjects taught during homeroom (math, reading, writing, science, social studies), students engage in many other classes such as art, PE, music, design technology, and swimming. Teachers integrate units with specialists when possible. Our students also engage in other types of learning activities outside the traditional four walls, including field trips, gardening, school-wide cultural programs, learning celebrations, clubs, and more.
