Makerplace
The Makerplace provides visitors ages 12 and up a unique opportunity for making and creating using the latest technology and equipment, along with flexible workspaces and a commercial-grade kitchen. Visit anytime to explore the space, try something new or bring a project from home and use the open workspaces. All users must sign a waiver before using equipment or participating in Makerplace classes. Makerplace classes are for Arlington Heights cardholders only, unless otherwise noted.
NEW Registration for all May programs at the Makerplace begins at 9 a.m. Monday, May 2.

MAKERPLACE ESSENTIALS CLASSES

SEWING
Wednesday, May 4, 1–2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 6–7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 1–2:30 p.m. Makerplace Sewing and Quilting Room
Learn the basics of threading, operating and troubleshooting on our sewing machines. All sessions are the same; register for one.
3D PRINTING
Tuesday, May 10 or Thursday, May 26 1–2:30 p.m. / Makerplace Flex Space 2
Explore the basics of 3D printing technology and how to use TinkerCAD to create 3D printable designs. All sessions are the same; register for one.
VINYL CUTTING
Thursday, May 12 or Wednesday, May 25 1–2:30 p.m. / Makerplace Flex Space 2
Learn to create your own custom designs and how to cut adhesive vinyl, iron-on transfers, paper for scrapbooking and crafting, fabric, matboard, leather and more. Both sessions are the same; register for one.
LASER CUTTING
Thursday, May 5, 1–2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 6–7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 1–2:30 p.m. Makerplace Flex Space 2
Learn the basics of 2D design for laser cutting and engraving. Using digital design software, take your ideas from concept to completed pieces using the laser cutter. All sessions are the same; register for one.
MAKERPLACE CULINARY CLASSES
Culinary classes are designed for adults 18+. Arlington Heights library card required. Space is limited; sign up for one class every month, per cardholder. NEW The library is working to meet the overwhelming demand for culinary classes. On Monday, May 2, beginning at 9 a.m., registrations will be placed in a queue and will be confirmed by email within 48 hours.
Knife Skills
Wednesday, May 11 or Thursday, May 12 6–7:30 p.m. / Makerplace Kitchen
Join the Makerplace’s very own Chef Brian as we slice and dice our way around the kitchen. Get comfortable behind the knife and hone those chopping skills. Knives and ingredients will be provided.
Chef’s Choice with Chef Grace
Tuesday, May 17, 2–4 p.m. or 5:30–7:30 p.m. Makerplace Kitchen
Join recent “Chopped” champ, Chef Grace Goudie of Scratchboard Kitchen, for a culinary treat of her choice. This hands-on class promises a peek into Chef Grace’s signature composed, but not complicated, cooking.
Polish Favorites
Tuesday, May 24, 2–3:30 p.m. or 6–7:30 p.m. Makerplace Kitchen

Pierogi! Kolaczki! Learn to make two Polish favorites in this class with Chef Kristyn Slick of Mealtime Memories. Lots of dough and lots of fillings will make for a scrumptious time.

Saturday, May 14 or Saturday, May 28, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Join a guided tour of the Makerplace. We’ll take you through the many creative spaces and introduce you to your new place for making in Arlington Heights. Each tour will end with time for Q&A.
