Looking back on the France-Argentina ‘Cooperation for Innovation—Agriculture, Territories and Environment’ seminar 26-28 November 2013, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
for rural and agricultural development**. The seminar also provided an opportunity to assess future prospects for French-Argentinian institutional cooperation. As a reflection of the strong scientific and technical ties between the two countries, Francisco Anglesio, Vice-President of INTA, and François Houllier, President of INRA, signed the renewal of the cooperation agreement between the two institutions.
A leading French delegation attended this seminar: François Houllier–INRA President, Michel Eddi–CIRAD President, Bernard Hubert–Agropolis International President, Bernard Dreyfus– IRD Scientific Director, Denis Despréaux–IRSTEA International Relations Director. This seminar, organized by the Argentinian National Institute for Agricultural Technolog y (INTA) and the French Embassy in Argentina, reviewed the current cooperation history and presented ongoing and future projects. The meeting was opened by Carlos Casamiquela, Argentinian Minister of Agriculture (who was
still President of INTA a week earlier) and by Jean-Michel Casa, French Ambassador to Argentina. It was held on the Alliance française premises in Buenos Aires, with the support of the Institut français in Argentina. Exchanges and discussions were kicked off by presentations on: a) LABINTEX, INTA’s first laboratory abroad, which was launched at Agropolis International in November 2012; over periods ranging from 2 to 4 years, Agropolis International members host four Argentinian scientists who are focusing research on topics of priority interest for both countries*; and b) AGRITERRIS, an international research laboratory
Several media documents were published for this seminar: a brochure showcasing LABINTEX (English and Spanish) a document presenting the INTA 2007-2012 biblometric study of international collaborations (French and Spanish versions) conducted by Agreenium, INRA and Agropolis International archivists (Odile Bedu, Dominique Fournier, Chantal Salson) for the LABINTEX inauguration video interviews of Argentinian LABINTEX researchers and their French counterparts in their research teams in Montpellier, which were presented during the Buenos Aires seminar. There has even been talk of food crises in recent years. […] New questions have arisen that have to be addressed by research. Natural hazards (climatic and health-related) and risks associated with human activities (nutritional diseases related to lifestyles, environmental externalities associated with industrialization, social exclusion and identity-related tensions) now have to be managed simultaneously.” From N. Regional technology platforms supporting research on food, nutrition and health, and advanced training opportunities in related areas are also described.
