Dossiers d’Agropolis International n°21 « Vigne et vin » (Novembre 2015, 76 pages, en français)
L’initiative « Plateformes Nationales d’Information sur la Nutrition » (NIPN) s’inscrit au sein du Plan d’Action pour la Nutrition de l’Union européenne (UE) visant à lutter contre la malnutrition dans le monde, en cohérence avec les objectifs fixés pour 2025 par l’Assemblée Mondiale de la Santé. L’approche développée par l’initiative NIPN consiste à renforcer les capacités des pays partenaires de l’UE les plus affectés par la malnutrition, avec l'appui des délégations locales de la Commission européenne (CE), en matière d’exploitation optimale des données et
informations existantes en lien avec la nutrition, de manière à ce qu’ils puissent mettre en œuvre des politiques et programmes efficaces et définir des priorités dans l’allocation des ressources. La CE a confié au GEIE Agrinatura (consortium d’universités et organismes de recherche européens dédié à la recherche et l’enseignement supérieur agronomique pour le développement) le pilotage de l’unité de coordination (« Global Support Facility », GSF) qui accompagne la mise en place de plateformes d’information sur la nutrition dans des pays pilotes (Bangladesh, Niger, Ethiopie, Laos, Kenya, Burundi, Zambie...).
Le GEIE Agrinatura a délégué à Agropolis International l’hébergement et la gestion opérationnelle de cette unité de coordination, composée de trois experts internationaux spécialistes des problèmes de nutrition et de gestion et analyse de données, accueillis à Agropolis International pour 4 ans. Un projet d’AgroVallée à Montpellier pour le premier semestre 2016 La région Languedoc-Roussillon est l’une des rares en Europe à avoir inscrit l’agriculture et l’agroalimentaire comme domaines de spécialisation intelligente (SRI-S3, dans le cadre du programme européen FEDER 2014-2020). Le projet d’AgroVallée vise à faire de Montpellier et de sa région, le creuset de l’innovation pour une agriculture méditerranéenne et tropicale durable, être leader en bio-raffinerie du végétal méditerranéen et tropical et développer des lieux concentrant ces ambitions et compétences.
en Languedoc-Roussillon, L’AgroVallée s’appuie sur : - une excellence scientifique et une masse critique de recherche et de formation (1er pôle national en agro-environnement, source « Strater 2014 ») ; - un réseau dense d’acteurs du transfert et de l’innovation ; - une dynamique exceptionnelle de projets collaboratifs recherche/ entreprise et de création d’entreprises innovantes.
Objectifs de l’AgroVallée L’AgroVallée, porte d’entrée unique de l’écosystème régional de l’innovation, entend déployer une offre de services, cohérente, complète et concertée pour : - d ynamiser les collaborations recherche / entreprise et créer ainsi les innovations de demain ; - accompagner à l’international les PME régionales pour vendre les innovations produites sur le territoire ; - attirer les investisseurs extérieurs au territoire, nationaux et étrangers, pour soutenir la création d’emplois.

Ce document a pour ambition d’offrir au lecteur un panorama de l’étendue des compétences en formation, recherche et innovation des acteurs régionaux sur la vigne et le vin.
Le rôle d’Agropolis International dans le projet d’AgroVallée L’Association Agropolis International s’organise pour représenter les acteurs de l’enseignement supérieur/recherche au sein de l’écosystème régional de l’innovation qui associe également le monde de l’entreprise et les collectivités territoriales (Conseil régional LR, Métropole de Montpellier…).
Ce dossier présente les acteurs scientifiques basés en région LanguedocRoussillon, membres de la communauté scientifique d’Agropolis International, conduisant des activités de formation, recherche et d’innovation sur la vigne et le vin : d es établissements d’enseignement supérieur et des organismes de recherche et dispositifs de valorisation et d’incubation ; q uatorze unités mixtes de recherche (UMR, dépendant de plusieurs organismes tutelles) et groupes de recherche, conduisant des investigations dans différentes disciplines scientifiques complémentaires (génétique, physiologie, agronomie, écologie, œnologie, économie, sciences de l’information, etc.) ; rois unités mixtes technologiques t (UMT), unités expérimentales et domaines expérimentaux, conduisant des expérimentations au champ ou en halles technologiques, au service des unités de recherche et des partenaires publics et privés.
Sur le plan scientifique, sont présentés des exemples concrets, selon cinq grands champs thématiques : a nalyse de la diversité et du fonctionnement du génome de la vigne ; onduite du vignoble, pratiques agro c nomiques, réduction des impacts ; d es connaissances pour maîtriser la qualité des vins ; d es approches en sciences sociales de l’innovation et transformation de la filière ; elever les défis du numérique pour r la filière ; et un chapitre transversal illustrant comment l’association de ces compétences permet, à travers des programmes transdisciplinaires, de relever les défis de l’adaptation au changement climatique et de la vitiviniculture durable. Le dossier illustre également la richesse des partenariats développés par les acteurs scientifiques régionaux avec le secteur académique en France, en Europe et dans le monde, et avec le secteur privé, afin de : m ener des recherches et des formations de haut niveau, répondant aux besoins des acteurs de la filière et des consommateurs ; d e favoriser l’innovation. Actualités des LABEX, laboratoires extérieurs sans murs Arrivée de nouveaux coordinateurs à Montpellier :
Création d'un Labex européen UPM, laboratoire virtuel avec l'Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) à Agropolis International, Montpellier. Agropolis International a reçu la visite d'une délégation de l'Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) en juillet 2015, conduite par le Vice-Chancelier de l'université, dans le cadre du Memorandum of Understanding signé pour 5 ans pour la création d'un Labex de l'Universiti Putra Malaysia. Le premier chercheur arrivera à Montpellier début 2016. Le Labex européen UPM rejoint ainsi les deux Labex accueillis à Montpellier : le Labex Europe de l’Embrapa (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) du Brésil et le LABINTEX de l’INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria) d’Argentine.
Labex Europe de l'Embrapa (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) - Brésil : Pedro Luiz Oliveira de Almeida Machado, chercheur à l’Embrapa, a été nommé coordinateur du Labex Embrapa, il succède à Claudio José Reis de Carvalho.

En amont de cet évènement international majeur, les laboratoires des organismes de recherche présents en région Languedoc-Roussillon, reconnus comme la première communauté scientifique française par le niveau de leurs publications dans les domaines de l’agronomie, de l’environnement et de la biodiversité, apportent leur contribution aux réflexions et aux débats, par une publication présentant les équipes de recherche et leurs travaux menés sur cette thématique.
Dans le cadre de l’Année Internationale de l’Agriculture Familiale (AIAF), décrétée par les Nations Unies pour 2014, les organismes de recherche membres d'Agropolis International, en partenariat avec le CGIAR, le Forum Mondial de la Recherche Agricole (GFAR) et le Forum Rural Mondial (FRM), ont pris l’initiative d’organiser des Rencontres Internationales sur le thème « Agricultures familiales et recherche ». 235 participants venus de 70 pays, représentants paysans, représentants d'ONG, décideurs politiques et du secteur privé, chercheurs et enseignants se sont retrouvés à Montpellier pour cet évènement. À cette occasion, un numéro des « dossiers d’Agropolis International » intitulé « Agricultures familiales » a été édité en français, en anglais et en espagnol, dossier également disponible en version électronique dans les trois langues.

Retour sur des évènements internationaux à Montpellier et résultats
Forum international de la société civile luttant contre la dégradation des terres Désertif’actions 2015 341 personnes de 41 pays ont participé à FSD5/Agro 2015. 5th International Symposium for Farming System Design ‘Multifonctional farming systems in a changing world’ Au cours de cette semaine scientifique internationale, organisée à Montpellier du 7 au 10 septembre 2015, sur les méthodes d’analyse et de conception des systèmes de production agricole, 250 communications orales et posters ont été présentés. L’objectif d’Agro2015 était de faire le point sur les avancées en matière de méthodes d’analyse et de conception de systèmes appliqués à l’agriculture, en réunissant les meilleures équipes internationales du domaine. Cet événement a été orga-nisé par la Société Européenne d´Agronomie (ESA), avec l’appui d’Agropolis International, avec la participation et le soutien de la communauté scientifique régionale : Cirad, Inra, Montpellier SupAgro, AgroParisTech, IAM.M, Université de Montpellier et le soutien financier du ministère chargé de l’Agriculture, de la Région LanguedocRous-sillon, de Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, d’Agropolis Fondation et de l’entreprise Advini.
À l’occasion de ce Forum international de la société civile luttant contre la dégradation des terres Désertif’actions 2015 qui s’est déroulé à Montpellier du 10 au 13 juin 2015, une déclaration officielle des 300 participants (représentants d’organisations de la société civile, scientifiques, autorités locales, officiels de rang ministériel de gouvernements et bailleurs de fonds, responsables d’organisations internationales ou multilatérales) venus de 57 pays différents a été rédigée. Résultats de la 3ème Conférence Scientifique de la Convention des Nations Unies de Lutte contre la désertification (CNULCD) Cette conférence a été co-organisée par un consortium coordonné par Agropolis International et le CSFD (Comité Scientifique français de la Déser- tification) du 9 au 12 mars 2015, à Cancún (Mexique), sur le thème : « Changement climatique et dégradation des terres : relier les connaissances aux enjeux ». Les principales conclusions de cette conférence ont été présentées à Ankara en octobre 2015 à l’occasion de la COP12 de la CNULCD.

2 000 experts de 98 pays présents pour le congrès mondial de la biologie de la conservation ICCB-ECCB 2015 : 27th International Congress for Conservation Biology - 4th European Congress for Conservation Biology, qui s’est tenu du 2 au 6 août 2015 à Montpellier Rendez-vous scientifique mondial des personnes en charge de la biodiversité et de la conservation de la nature, ce forum d’ampleur inédite a facilité les échanges sur les travaux récents en matière de recherche et développement ainsi que sur les pratiques, outils et défis de la conservation de la biodiversité.

Climate-Smart Agriculture 2015 - La 3ème Conférence scientifique mondiale sur l’agriculture climato-intelligente s’est tenue du 16 au 18 mars 2015 à Montpellier, en amont de la Conférence ‘Our Common Future under Climate Change’, en juillet 2015 à Paris et de “Paris Climat 2015” (UNFCC COP21) en décembre au Bourget Organisée par le Cirad, l’Inra, l’IRD et Agropolis International avec le soutien du CGIAR, de l’Université de Wageningen, de l’Université de Californie à Davis, de la FAO et du GFAR, cette conférence a réuni plus de 700 participants venus de 75 pays. Dans la Déclaration de Montpellier rédigée à cette occasion, les scientifiques s’accordent sur la nécessité d’un engagement de toutes les parties prenantes, sur le besoin d’interaction entre science et politique, entre scientifiques et agriculteurs, afin de mettre en place les nécessaires transitions agricoles pour faire face aux enjeux du changement climatique.

Desertif’actions 2015 International Forum of Civil Society devoted to combating land degradation and desertification 341 participants from 41 countries attended FDS5/Agro2015—the 5th International Symposium for Farming Systems Design ‘Multifunctional farming systems in a changing world’—held from 7 to 10 September 2015 in Montpellier (France) The conference included 250 oral presentations and posters focused on international scientific methods for agricultural system analysis and design. The overall aim of Agro2015 was to showcase advances in farming system analysis and design methods by bringing together top notch international teams in this field. The event was organized by the European Society for Agronomy (ESA), with the support of Agropolis International and the participation and support of the regional scientific community—CIRAD, INRA, Montpellier SupAgro, AgroParisTech, IAM.M and University of Montpellier—with financial support from the French Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry, Languedoc Roussillon Regional Council, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, Agropolis Fondation and the French wine company AdVini.
In the framework of the Desertif’actions 2015 International Forum of Civil Society devoted to combating land degradation and desertification that took place in Montpellier (France) from 10 to 13 June 2015, an official declaration by the 300 participants (civil society organization representatives, scientists, local authorities, government ministry officials, heads of international or multilateral organizations) from 57 different countries was drawn up. Results of the 3rd Scientific Conference of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Co-organized by a consortium coordinated by Agropolis International and the French Scientific Committee on Desertification (CSFD) that was held from 9 to 12 March 2015 at Cancún (Mexico) on the topic ‘Climate change and land degradation: Bridging knowledge and stakeholders’. 2000 experts from 98 countries attended the 27th International Congress for Conservation Biology 4th European Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB-ECCB 2015), held from 2 to 6 August 2015 in Montpellier (France) This large-scale forum brought together international scientists devoted to biodiversity and nature conservation. It was an opportunity to facilitate exchange on recent research and development initiatives, as well as on biodiversity conservation methods, tools and challenges.

Organized by CIRAD, INRA, IRD and Agropolis International, with the support of CGIAR, University of Wageningen, University of California (Davis), FAO and GFAR, this conference brought together over 700 participants from 75 countries. In the Montpellier Statement drawn up during the event, scientists agreed on the importance of the commitment of all stakeholders, of interaction between science and policy and between researchers and farmers to ensure effective implementation of agricultural transitions necessary to meet climate change challenges.

>TRAINING CIHEAM–IAMM (Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier), an Agropolis International member institution, has now been accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research to issue national Master’s degrees as of the 2015-2016 academic year, with four distinctions corresponding to its Master 2 training programmes: Territorial Development
and Projects; Agricultural Management and Territories; Economics and Management of Agricultural, Agrifood and Rural Development; and Agrologistic Value Chains. News on LABEX–external laboratories without walls Arrival of new coordinators in Montpellier:
Creation of a European Labex UPM — a Virtual Laboratory of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) — at Agropolis International, Montpellier (France). Agropolis International hosted a visit of a delegation from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in July 2015, headed by the UPM Vice Chancellor, in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed for a 5-year period on the founding of a Labex of the Universiti Putra Malaysia. The first researcher will be posted in Montpellier in early 2016. The European Labex UPM joins the two other Labex hosted in Montpellier: EMBRAPA (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) Labex Europe from Brazil and INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria) LABINTEX from Argentina.
EMBRAPA (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária) Labex Europe–Brazil: Pedro Luiz Oliveira de Almeida Machado, EMBRAPA researcher, has been appointed Coordinator of EMBRAPA Labex Europe. He succeeds Claudio José Reis de Carvalho.

The official launch of the Brazilian ‘Agropolo’ (agrocluster) in Campinas took place on 21 September 2015 during its first Board of Directors meeting at the Campinas city hall, with Agropolis International participating via videoconference.

As part of the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF), proclaimed by the United Nations for 2014, Agropolis International member institutions, in partnership with CGIAR, the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) and the World Rural Forum (WRF), decided to organize these International Encounters on the topic ‘Family Farming and Research’. 235 participants from 70 countries, farmers’ representatives, NGO representatives, decision makers, private sector stakeholders, researchers and teachers gathered in Montpellier for this event. A Dossiers d’Agropolis International special issue on ‘Family Farming’ was published in English, French and Spanish on this occasion. - 25 students and professors from Kyoto and Meijo Universities attended a training session on short food supply chains in Languedoc-Roussillon Region that took place at the Institut des Hautes Études de la Vigne et du Vin (Montpellier SupAgro) - Two workshops were held in Kyoto: ‘Workshop on Study of Family-run Farming: Varied Forms, Roles and Conditions for Sustainability’ and the ‘1st Future Leaders Global Workshop on Social Science of Agriculture, Food and Environment’.
These workshops were organized by Kyoto University (Graduate School of Agriculture and Social Sciences and Humanities Subunit), with the participation of the French joint research units INNOVATION, MOISA, ART-DEV and GRED. NIPN initiative hosted and coordinated by Agropolis International The National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN) initiative is part of the European Union (EU) Nutrition Action Plan to combat malnutrition in the world, in line with the targets set for 2025 by the World Health Assembly.
The approach developed by the NIPN initiative involves building capacity of the EU partner countries hit by malnutrition, with the support of local EC delegations, to make the most efficient use of existing nutrition-related
data and information, thus enabling them to implement efficient policies and programmes and pinpoint resource allocation priorities. The EC has entrusted Agrinatura EEIG (a consortium of European universities and research centres involved in development-oriented agricultural higher education and research) with the task of coordinating the Global Support Facility (GSF) in charge of setting up nutrition information platforms in pilot countries (Bangladesh, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Laos, Niger, Zambia, etc.). Agrinatura EEIG delegated Agropolis International with
the authority to host the GSF on its premises and ensure its operational management. GSF comprises three international experts on nutrition and data management issues hosted at Agropolis International for 4 years.
This special issue showcases the broad range of training, research and innovation expertise of regional stakeholders in the fields of viticulture and wine.

Role of Agropolis International in the AgroVallée project: The Agropolis International Association is preparing to represent university/research stakeholders in the regional innovation environment, which also involves the business community and regional and local authorities (Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, etc.). This Dossier on viticulture and wine presents the scientific stakeholders based in Languedoc-Roussillon region (France), members of the Agropolis International scientific research community, involved in training, research and innovation on viticulture and wine: h igher education and research institutes and development and incubation platforms 1 4 joint research units (UMRs, attached to several parent organizations) and research groups, conducting studies in different complementary scientific disciplines (genetics, physiology, agronomy, ecology, oenology, economy, information science, etc.) hree joint technology units (UMTs), t experimental units and field stations, conducting studies in the field or in technology centres, at the service of research units and public and private partners.
Scientifically, by presenting practical examples in five main thematic areas: a nalysis of the diversity and functioning of the grape genome v ineyard management, agronomic practices, impact reduction k nowledge to control wine quality ocial science, innovation and secto s ral transformation approaches m eeting digital challenges in the sector and a cross-cutting chapter illustrating how climate change adaptation and sustainable vitiviniculture challenges can be addressed by combining these skills and expertise via cross-disciplinary programmes. This Dossier also illustrates the broad scope of partnerships developed by regional scientific stakeholders with the academic sector in France, Europe and worldwide, and with the private sector to support and facilitate top notch research and training, so as to meet the needs of stakeholders in this sector, and consumers, while fostering innovation. The range of diploma courses (from Bac+2 to Bac+5) offered by Agropolis International member institutions in the viticulture and wine sectors are also presented.
