Provocative, sensual, dazzling; Jerry Anderson cleverly evokes these pleasurable sensations in acrylic paintings on canvas. As viewers, we can’t help but search for clues to the artist’s intentions in the undulating contours and cascading crevices that he cleverly constructs in two-dimension. A close gaze reveals semiabstracted anatomy and elements from the natural world. There is a wonder and curiosity in the strong anthropomorphic shapes and sense of living light that often point to portals into a distant universe. Deeper dialog with Anderson’s work reveals a sense of intimacy, spirituality, and the connection between masculine and feminine energies, and with nature, concepts that are at the heart of Anderson’s oeuvre.
Anderson’s interpretive and sumptuous shapes are in the modernist vocabulary of Georgia O’Keefe. Bold and vibrant colors of red, blue, purple, yellow, orange, and green are reminiscent of early 20th century Fauvist painters. Experienced in architecture and engineering, Anderson creates a strong sense of spatial balance in his artwork. The artist’s interests in shamanism, psychology, religion, and philosophy inform his skilled, emotive, and alluring art practice.
Anderson’s work is recognized in the United States, Asia, Europe, Morocco and the Middle East. He exhibits regularly with Agora Gallery as well as in California and Italy.

Painting is an expression of my ongoing pursuit of discovering all that life offers. Myriad connections and possibilities present themselves at each moment… a cobblestone street that conceals a face, a cave that reveals a woman’s body, or a dream that intimates cosmic relationships. Engaging in each painting focuses this journey for me and provides a quiet unknowing that reveals new surprises, new connections and a fullness of heart. I am awed by the creative energy that activates this life and indeed our whole universe. My paintings are my reaching for contact with this energy. In my work, the female form inevitably emerges as the image which most visibly represents universal creativity for me.
My wish remains that these works wake us to deepening questions that remind us of the miracle, mystery and oneness of all.
