CORROGAMY

530 West 25th Street, New York, NY

Simon Wilkins, also known as Corrogamy, is a mixed media artist hailing from Alberta, Canada. His deep connection to nature, forged through his extensive experience in agriculture, forestry, and park management, profoundly influences his art.

Wilkins creates digital collages that reimagine the natural world in whimsical and unconventional ways. His process begins with arranging photographs, which he enhances with heavy body acrylic paint or markers. These images are then scanned and printed onto watercolor paper, a procedure he repeats multiple times until achieving a smooth, polished photographic print.

In his work, Simon explores themes of multiplicity, juxtaposition, and congregation, crafting absurd realities that humorously challenge the existing relationships between animal and human species. His compositions might depict jungles teeming with dozens of tigers, tiny lizards forming schools in the ocean, or Siamese cats joined at the hip. Through these playful scenarios, Simon invites viewers to reconsider reality and embrace new perspectives.

Through his art, Wilkins challenges viewers to envision new realities where animals congregate and interact in fantastical scenarios, offering a fresh lens through which to view nature and its inhabitants.

I make digital collages that offer a reimagining of the natural world, drawing from my extensive 40-year career in parks and forestry. I begin by arranging photographs, which I embellish with acrylic paint or markers before scanning and printing them onto watercolor paper. I repeat this process several times until I achieve a smooth photographic print.

The compositions are arranged to form unconventional readings of the natural kingdom. By playing with multiplicity, juxtaposition, and congregation, I conjure absurd realities that humorously challenge the existing relations between the animal and human species. For example, what if jungles teemed with dozens of tigers? What if tiny lizards formed schools in the ocean? What if cats were joined at the hip? Through these whimsical scenarios, I invite viewers to reconsider reality and embrace new perspectives.
