HOWDY, AGS!

Howdy,

The Aggie Park year is flying by for your San Antonio A&M Club. Our annual family BBQ took place on June 7 with around 200 in attendance. The chicken grilling crew, led by Joe Rodriguez, arrived early and presented perfectly prepared birds to a grateful crowd. Aggie Women made mounds of tasty potato salad and the famous Aggie Park Beans were prepared and devoured. Kids enjoyed the barrel train and many other games and crafts both in and outside of the Aggie Park building.

The next major event was our prime fundraiser of Coach’s Night. We returned to Pedrotti’s to get enough room for the crowd and enjoy an evening of fun, fellowship and fundraising. Coach Elko took many photos with our VIP attendees and then gave a positive assessment of the upcoming football season. The silent and live auctions saw great bidding action with our auctioneer getting every penny out of the live auction items. At the end of the evening Benjamin Knox unveiled a beautiful painting of Aggie Park that will be a part of the park for years to come. The first print went to the auction winner to hang in his home. As our largest fundraiser, the night generated over $100K toward our scholarship fund.

Monday lunches continued with excellent speakers found by Vice President Paula Schnettler. Ryan Brauninger ’12 told us about baseball recruiting, Manny Vela and Dr. Sandra Hansmann told about the TAMU Higher Education Center in McAllen, Cade Coppinger ’25 told of his experience as student body president and involvement with the Brotherhood of Christian Aggies, David Rodriguez ’90 ’92 explained King Seeds and the creation of the Maroon Bluebonnet, Eric Cooper brought us up to date on the amazing work of the San Antonio Food Bank, while Dr. Deb Zoran ’97 gave a fascinating look at the Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team (VET). We started June with an update from our scholarship students followed by Dr. Roger Moxzygemba MD, HHA ’86 ’91 with the story of his Direct Med Clinic. This was followed by Dr. Steven Rosenblatt telling the story of his mother’s amazing escape

from the Warsaw Ghetto in WW2, JR Trevino as the Mayor of Castle Hills, Cody Davenport – CEO of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Dr. Dennis Jansen Professor of Economics at A&M, and Jamie Morrison as the coach of A&M’s outstanding Volleyball team. We then had an extended Monday including kitty and puppy adoptions highlighted by a speech by Dr. Savannah Beaurgard on the Animal Defense League. We closed out the summer with Henry Cisneros ’68, Elianor Vessali ’98 Texas Public Policy Foundation, Keaton Savoie ’14 with the Aggie Angel Network, Lindsay Holliday ’06 with Tejas Rodeo Company and our own Michael Zendejas ’99 on taking care of older adults aging in place.

Young Aggies were also active with run club events, happy hours, watch parties, miniature golf, Pearl Farmer’s Market, sand volleyball, a Medina River tubing trip and dance evenings out. The club spent the night of July 3rd at the Missions and hosted Maroon Mass at Aggie Park on July 27th.

Lots more to come as we roll into Fall and Winter. I hope to see you all at a Monday Lunch or other Aggie events.

Thanks & Gig ’em, Lane Mitchell ’79 President

OF SAN ANTONIO

San Antonio Young Aggies Are Back and Better Than Ever!

Howdy Ags! My name is Trey Gonzalez, and I’m proud to serve as the Young Aggie Coordinator here in San Antonio. I’m part of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2019, and I’m excited to share that this year has been a huge success in bringing fresh energy to the Young Aggies community!

We’ve seen our following grow on Instagram, GroupMe, and Facebook, and best of all—we’ve loved meeting so many new faces at our free events. From pickleball and putt putt to run club and our monthly happy hours, it’s been awesome to see Aggies coming together all over the city.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! This fall, we’ve had weekly game watch parties and our annual Friendsgiving. Plus, we just dropped brand-new Young Aggies t-shirts—free for all new members when you sign up for our $50 annual membership.

It’s an exciting time to be a San Antonio Young Aggie, and I can’t wait to keep growing this community. Looking forward to meeting even more of y’all at our upcoming events—Gig ’em!

PROMOTING FELLOWSHIP IN SAN ANTONIO MEMBERSHIP

Aggie Spirit in Action: Connect, Give Back, and Belong

The San Antonio A&M Club proudly serves as a hub for thousands of Aggies and friends in our city. Yet, our active membership currently hovers around just 1,000—far short of the more than 11,000 Aggies living in the greater San Antonio area. Membership fuels our scholarships, traditions, fellowship, and service— the very heart of what makes San Antonio Aggies unique: a deep commitment to community, tradition, and leadership.

Becca Sinclair, Class of 2015, embodies the Aggie Spirit that strengthens our club. After recently returning to San Antonio, she rejoined the club, saying: “I rejoined the San Antonio A&M Club to stay connected to the Aggie Network, give back locally, and be part of the Aggie family. It’s a wonderful way to build friendships, serve the community, and keep the Aggie Spirit alive in San Antonio.” Becca’s story reminds us that no matter how far we go, Aggie values—selfless

service, loyalty, and excellence— run deep and always bring us back together.

Welcoming Aggies Everywhere

Membership is more than a card— it’s being part of a network that actively engages in San Antonio’s Aggie community. Our Membership Committee members, like AJ Kwan ’71 and Yen Yan ’95, now attend almost every local gathering, from Aggie Happy Hours and the Family BBQ to Coach’s Night and the San Antonio Aggie Mom’s Club Howdy Social. Their presence ensures that new and returning Aggies always find a friendly face ready to welcome them and help them get involved.

Why Membership Matters

- Members enjoy exclusive event discounts, voting rights, and access to an active Aggie directory and job board.

- Membership directly supports local scholarships and makes events like

Muster, Coach’s Night, and Family BBQs possible.

- The club offers opportunities for professional growth, leadership, and lifelong friendships with fellow Aggies of all generations.

Join Today!

Imagine the impact if every Aggie in San Antonio joined. More scholarships. Stronger traditions. A tighter, more vibrant community. If you haven’t renewed—or know an Aggie who isn’t yet a member—invite them to join today! Let’s make 2025 a record year and show the maroon spirit that defines us.

Sign up or renew at AggiePark.com. Gig ’em, Ags!

Yours in Service, Thanks and Gig em!

FAMILY BBQ 2025

WITH ALL THE FIXINGS

Our Family BBQ on June 7, 2025 was a huge hit—thank you to everyone who came out, and an extra-big thanks to the volunteers who made it all happen.

Like any great Aggie gathering, the BBQ was rich with tradition. Our cook team rolled in early Saturday to prep and fire up the pits, turning out beans, chicken, and all the fixings right on site. The Aggie Women’s Club came through with a crowd-favorite potato salad (seconds were mandatory).

Fun ran all day for Aggies of every age: a piñata (Bevo, with horns tastefully trimmed), a bounce house, the train, yard games, and a club-wide memorabilia scavenger hunt. We wrapped with multiple rounds of bingo—turns out “loser bingo” stole the show for those cards that just wouldn’t hit!

Mark your calendars: Our next Family BBQ is coming on Saturday, May 16, 2026—details to follow. We can’t wait to do it again!

AGGIES ON DECK

San Antonio Aggies turned out in force for the Third Annual Aggies on Deck, cheering on the San Antonio Missions as they faced the Corpus Christi Hooks on July 3 at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. Hosted by the San Antonio A&M Club, this now-beloved tradition has become a summer highlight, bringing together Aggies, families, and friends for an unforgettable night of baseball, camaraderie, and the Aggie Spirit.

For the third straight year, the event took place on the Missions’ Fiesta Deck — an all-inclusive, multi-level space perfect for gatherings. Guests enjoyed a crowd-pleasing feast of hamburgers, hot dogs, beef and chicken fajitas, and a nacho bar, along with popcorn, cookies, ice-cold soft drinks, and beer. The lively setting made for the perfect backdrop to reconnect with fellow Aggies and kick off the Fourth of July weekend in true Aggie fashion.

Becca Sinclair ’15 shared:

“After recently moving back to San Antonio, Aggies on Deck was the perfect way to reconnect with the Aggie Club and family, celebrating the holiday weekend, cheering on the Missions, and feeling the energy and camaraderie that truly capture the Aggie Spirit!”

Despite a rainy forecast — and a game that was ultimately called early — the Aggie Spirit was stronger than ever. Fifty-five Aggies filled the Fiesta Deck, cheering, reconnecting, and making memories over food, fellowship, and fun.

Thanks to the Fiesta Deck’s covered seating, everyone stayed dry and was able to enjoy the post-game festivities. Country music artist Wade Bowen kept the crowd entertained, and the evening closed with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the night sky.

Jimmy ’77 and Bonnie Garcia summed up the night perfectly:

“Even though it was a very rainy night for Aggies on Deck at the Missions baseball game and the game was ultimately called due to weather, we still got to hear a great concert, enjoy fireworks, and have a great time with our Aggie daughter, Julianne (’17 and ’21), and all of our fellow Aggies. The Missions’ loss and all of the rain didn’t dampen our Aggie Spirit. Can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Several lucky Aggies even went home with door prizes, adding a final touch of excitement to the evening. This year’s Aggies on Deck once again proved why it’s a favorite San Antonio Aggie tradition — strengthening the bonds that make this community so special. Whether you’re new to the area or a longtime member, Aggies on Deck is the perfect reminder that the Aggie Spirit is alive and well in San Antonio.

Want to join us next year? Stay connected with the San Antonio A&M Club by visiting aggiepark.com and following us on social media. We’d love to see you on the Fiesta Deck in 2026 — Gig ’em!

COACH’S NIGHT 2025

On July 21, 2025, the San Antonio A&M Club hosted its annual Coach’s Night at Pedrotti’s Ranch, welcoming Texas A&M head football coach Mike Elko for an evening filled with Aggie pride, football insights, and community impact. This year’s event was not only a celebration of the 2025 football season but also the club’s largest fundraiser of the year, exceeding expectations by raising over $100,000 for scholarships benefiting Bexar County students attending Texas A&M in College Station.

Coach Elko, in his second year leading the Aggies, shared an optimistic outlook for the 2025 season (which proved to be spot on.) He praised the retention of key players, noting that the team kept 99% of the athletes they hoped to return, while also highlighting the return of all top offensive linemen, a strong running back room, and promising wide receiver talent including KC and Terry Bussey (who will focus solely on the wide receiver position this season.)

The evening featured appearances by the Aggie Yell Leaders, representatives from the 12th Man Foundation, The Association of Former Students & Aggie merchandise vendors. Attendees enjoyed dinner, played games, & participated in live & silent auctions, all contributing to the scholarship fund.

A CELEBRATION OF TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL

VIP tables offered exclusive experiences, including seating with Coach Elko and other notable Aggie figures.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers whose dedication and hard work made the event a resounding success. Their efforts helped ensure a smooth, engaging, and impactful evening for all who attended.

The Aggies kicked off the season against UTSA on August 30 at Kyle Field, the energy and support from the San Antonio Aggie community has set a strong tone for the season. Gig ‘em!

A CELEBRATION OF TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL

HILL COUNTRY WINERIES RECAP

We had a wonderful trip through the Hill Country wineries, where we discovered just how many talented Aggie winemakers are out there. Our group visited Sandy Road Vineyards, 12 Fires Winery, and Messina Hof Winery—each stop offering its own unique Aggie flavor.

Sandy Road Vineyards

Owned by Bryan and Adrienne Chagoly ‘01, this was a new discovery for most attendees and a fantastic way to kick off the trip. Bryan personally guided us through the tasting in their brand-new room, and every wine was highly praised by the group. Some explored the vineyard, and a few even made it out to the treehouse, where intimate tastings are hosted. Wines from Sandy Road are only available directly from them, so if you’re interested, plan a visit or check out their website.

12 Fires Winery

A familiar name to the San Antonio A&M Club, Mike, Duke, and Zach from 12 Fires welcomed us in true Aggie style. Duke boarded our bus and joined us for the ride to their rustic tasting room. We enjoyed lunch alongside Aggiethemed wines like Saw ’Em Off II and Whoop. The property also features glamping tents, which many toured—perfect for a Hill Country getaway.

Messina Hof Winery

Our final and most familiar stop was Messina Hof, where we were treated to a private event room surrounded by their incredible collection of wines. Guests had the chance to don the iconic red hats, just like Mr. Bonarrigo himself. Highlights included selections from their Aggie Network Wines, the Pacific War Museum Collection, and the Texas Wine Portfolio.

The Journey

We traveled in the comfort of a charter bus, making the day seamless and relaxing. The trip was a great success— supporting Aggie winemakers while enjoying fellowship and fine wine.

If you missed this one, don’t worry—plans are already underway for our next Hill Country wineries trip in April 2026. Don’t miss out!

MAROON MASS

UNITES BEXAR COUNTY AGGIES IN FAITH AND FELLOWSHIP

On Sunday, July 27th, the vibrant Aggie spirit filled San Antonio’s Aggie Park as more than 300 new and former students from Bexar County gathered for the annual Maroon Mass. Hosted by St. Mary’s Catholic Church of College Station, the event served as a heartfelt send-off for incoming Aggies and a warm reunion for alumni and families.

Father Charlie Banks led the celebration of the Mass, joined by Deacon Jan Lee and Deacon Gabriel, whose presence added depth and warmth to the liturgy. The Maroon Mass is more than a tradition—it’s a spiritual bridge connecting students to their faith community as they begin their journey at Texas A&M University.

This cherished event helps new students find a home at St. Mary’s, a parish known for nurturing faith and fellowship throughout the college years. It’s a moment of reflection, encouragement, and Aggie pride, all wrapped into one.

Special thanks go to SAFA, represented by Patrick Von Dolen ’94, and the David and Laura Matlock family for their generous sponsorship, which made this gathering possible.

Gig ‘em and God bless the Aggie family!

UPCOMING BUS TRIPS

AGGIE MOMS’ CLUB

Howdy! Our San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club has had an incredible year. We are the third-oldest Aggie Moms’ Club, and we are celebrating 100 years in April 2026! In honor of our Centennial year, our goal is to endow a $100,000 scholarship this year.

This summer, we hosted a successful Howdy Social and welcomed many new Aggies, along with their families. We had the CSTAT Yell Leaders and representatives from many different campus organizations. It is always fun to see the new Aggies following along with the Yell Leaders.

At one of our monthly meetings, we were blessed to have Nancy Skokan, Aggie Moms’ Federation President. Everyone enjoyed her knowledge and energy. Our upcoming meetings will include a SipNShop, a Holiday party, and exciting speakers. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 and would love to meet you!

We are already collecting donations for our Goody Bag distribution in December. We will provide almost 300 goody bags to College Station, Galveston, and the Engineering Academy.

There are lots of fun events coming up: Singing Cadets concert on January 3rd at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, Bunco at Chicken N Pickle on January 28, and our Centennial Gala on April 18th at Aggie Park. Follow us on our social media page San Antonio Aggie Mothers’ Club – Texas A&M College Station and Galveston.

We encourage all Aggie Moms to join our club. If you have questions, you can find membership details along with Centennial Celebrations at our “San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club” website. If you are interested in becoming a donor or sponsor for our Centennial activities, you can also email us at samomspresident@aggiemoms.org. We are thrilled to celebrate our 100 years of existence and hope everyone will be a part of it.

AGGIE WOMEN’S CLUB

Howdy, Aggies! Our San Antonio Aggie Women’s Club had a wonderful start this year. In August, we rang in the new club season with our well-attended Kick-Off Dinner at La Hacienda de Los Barrios. We also held our first luncheon meeting on September 11th at Max and Louie’s Diner, and our speaker was none other than San Antonio A&M Club President Lane Mitchell ’79. We value our continued close partnership with the A&M Club and Aggie Park, so it was great to set the tone for the year by hearing all about the history and goals of the A&M Club from Lane.

Our club was formed in 1957 to support the then all male San Antonio A&M Club. After a couple of name changes over the years, we adopted our current moniker in 2016. While there are clubs for Aggie moms and spouses and graduates in abundance, we’re uniquely the only Aggie Women’s Club anywhere! We welcome women who are A&M graduates as well as the wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, cousins and friends of Aggies. Part of our mission is to support the San Antonio A&M Club by helping with Muster, Family BBQ and Feed the Band. Additionally, we support local organizations that benefit women and children. Importantly, we fund five $25,000 scholarships for Bexar County students to attend Texas A&M. We are thrilled about our goal to create a new $100,000 endowed scholarship for our 70th Anniversary in 2027.

With these objectives in mind, we have several fundraising initiatives in the works. Save the date for this year’s Viva la Bingo! event which will take place on March 28, 2026, at Aggie Park. We netted more than $35,000 from 2025’s Bingo, and we hope to make even more in 2026. Besides Bingo, the day includes opportunities to bid on fabulous

silent auction items, terrific raffle prizes, shopping, and tasty food and drinks. We’ve started our annual pecan sales with delivery in time for the holidays. If you haven’t ordered our pecans (plain, chocolate and cinnamon) before, you should because they are delicious and make great gifts. We have a small group of dedicated “pie ladies” who run the pie table during the Monday luncheons at Aggie Park. Donations for our pies make a vital contribution to our fundraising efforts.

Our incoming Executive Board members and Committee Chairs are working hard to make this one a year full of service, fellowship and fun.

Lisa De Leon arranges our monthly luncheons and speakers. Amy Mulholland ‘89 and Carolyn McDuff ‘09 head up fundraising efforts. Judy Hardy plans a monthly evening or weekend event. Sandy Deitchle is our treasurer, Adrienne King our historian, and Debbie Castro our parliamentarian. Vivian Coleman handles our correspondence, and Lori Borroni-Engle ’90 ‘96 tackles special projects. Dee Ann Schofield ‘90 designs our directory, and Nancy EubanksMorin and Yvonne Gadeke faithfully lead our pie efforts each Monday. If you would like to join our club, we’d love to welcome you! Please contact Rita Richardson ‘84, our membership chairperson, at 210-663-4108 or at tygammer@ gmail.com.
