HOWDY, AGS! With the last two months of 2023, your San Antonio A&M Club continued to promote the Aggie Spirit among members and friends of our community.

In November, Coach Jackie Sherrill spoke to a crowd of over two hundred guests to share his thoughts on our football program and entertain us with stories of his coaching experiences while at Texas A&M.

Sunday With Santa and Aggie Market Day brought out kids of all ages to have photos taken with Santa and enjoy holiday shopping with Aggie owned vendors. Special thanks to our own San Antonio A&M Club Board member, David Gay, for serving as our Santa once again.

Mark your calendars now for the first Sunday of December in 2024 for this exciting club event. The Club Christmas party was a great time for all who attended. Our community continued to demonstrate their generous nature as truckloads of toy donations were collected for the Blessed Angels Community Center and the Castle Hills Police Department Blue Santa project at this event. We said goodbye to outgoing Board members Chris Clements ’79, David Gay ’86, and Whitney Schrader ’08 and thanked them for many years of service to our club. Our final fundraiser of the year was completed as the winner

of the Nilgai Hunt donated by the East Foundation was selected.

SUNDAY WITH SANTA

& AGGIE MARKET DAY

Our annual Sunday with Santa and Aggie Market Day club event took place on Sunday, December 3, at Aggie Park. If the laughter, smiles, and squeals of delight were any indicator – it was a resounding success! Kids from 1 to 92 had a great time at the event! We had a fantastic lineup of vendors, including Aggie Moms’ Boutique, Aggie Women’s, Just Pots, Scout and Molly’s Boutique, Inspirations by Angie, Nancy’s Creations, Pretty Bird, Sassy Texan, ELM Custom Creations, and 12 Fires Winery. They helped everyone complete their lastminute Christmas shopping, and several vendors stayed over for Monday Lunch to assist with additional shopping. Special thanks to 12 Fires for offering a nice bottle of wine as a door prize at Monday Lunch!

The Aggie Moms truly outdid themselves with excellent decorations, crafts, cookie decorating, hot cocoa, and cheerful volunteers for all the stations. Attendees went

home with loads of handmade ornaments for their Christmas trees, sweet treats, photos, and fun memories. We even took the time to write letters to Santa! The food was expertly taken care of

by Joe Rodriguez, Austin Teske, and Mitchell Byrum, with the assistance of Mandy Scott and Don Preecs.

Santa’s Elves Sandra Hoggard and Sybil Howell, alongside Santa himself (aka David Gay), added a magical touch that the kids loved, especially Santa’s Reindog – Rye. Mark your calendars for the first Sunday in December 2024 when the event promises to be even bigger and better! A heartfelt thanks to all who joined us in the fun, as well as our dedicated volunteers and Aggie Park Staff and Representatives who made the event truly special.

CHRISTMAS PARTY OUR LAST “WHOOP!” OF THE YEAR What do Aggies do as the year winds down, the weather gets cooler, and holiday cheer is in the air? We throw a Christmas party, of course!

On December 7, San Antonio Aggies gathered at the Original Aggie Park to celebrate, enjoy fellowship, and spread holiday cheer at our annual SAAMCF Christmas Party! Many laughs were had, drinks were poured, and trivia questions stumped even some of the most knowledgeable Ags. The board had the honor of recognizing our three members rolling off the board this year, including Chris Clements ’79, David Gay ‘86, and Whitney Schrader ’08.

We cannot thank these three enough for their contributions to the club over the years; they will surely be missed! As these three great Ags step down, we’re excited to welcome our newest board members: Clayton Perry ’78 and Ty Chumbley ’06. Additionally, Robert Lozano ’90 is joining the executive committee as Secretary. As previously mentioned, we had a great time playing some Aggie Park Trivia filled with some pretty tough questions! For example, do you know how many copies of Aggieland (including duplicate years) are in the Aggie Park boardroom? For those of you who don’t have time to go and count for yourselves, I’ll go ahead and tell you: 160 copies! Now, not only did we have some great trivia, but we also gave away some great prizes this year through our annual Nilgai Hunt Raffle brought to us by the East Foundation! Congratulations to our winners Clayton Perry, Ronnie Castro, and Sean Hoffmann, who took home a Jackie Sherrill signed football, a Yeti cooler stocked with Ag Lager and a bottle of Texas Ranger whiskey, and the amazing Nilgai hunt experience, respectively.

Thank you to all you Aggies who came out and celebrated with us this year, and a very big thanks to Rebecca Creek Distillery and Alamo Beer Company for keeping the bar merry and bright with an assortment of great spirits!

AGGIE BUS TRIPS ROLL TO A HALT FOR 2023 As the “at-home” football season wrapped up on November 18, we took a moment to reflect on this year’s trips.

Although several journeys required an early start, the bus provided a stress-free way to arrive safely at Simpson Drill Field, allowing passengers to relax, read, catch up on email, or watch a sporting event or movie on personal devices. No worrying about traffic or finding parking—instead,

we enjoyed sharing time, food, and drinks with friends and making new acquaintances on the bus. We arrived feeling fresh and invigorated as we headed to march-in, tailgates, or the MSC while awaiting game time. By the end of the third quarter, the bus was ready to transport us safely home after the game.

Thanks to those who joined us this year, and I hope everyone will consider this easy alternative to attend next year’s home games.

AGGIE MOMS’ CLUB Howdy, Aggies! The San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club will take a bit of a break in January, but we sure have been busy this fall with many different fundraisers and other activities.

At our November general meeting, we hosted three speakers in a Mental Health Awareness Discussion Panel.

Author and Advocate Dee Dee Said, The Vine Wellness Group Co-owner and Counselor Annie Viers, and Federation of Aggie Moms President Johnna Lenamon shared personal experiences and important information to help prepare Aggie moms to support our college students when they are home for fall and winter holidays. At our December general meeting, we recognized December graduates, honored our former club presidents, had a fun gift exchange, and shared some holiday cheer. The ten former presidents who were in attendance were presidents of our club during various years from 1989 to 2022!

Our next general meeting will be February 6 with guest speaker Col. (Ret.) Mike Fossum ’80, former astronaut and current Chief Operating Officer of Texas A&M University at Galveston.

The meeting is at Aggie Park at 6:30pm.

Doors open at 6:00pm.

For those interested in joining the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club, our meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month (except for January, June, and July) at 6:30pm. at Aggie Park.

We have a simple (but good) meal, a guest speaker or other program, and drawings for door prizes and a $250 scholarship.

AGGIE WOMEN’S CLUB Our club members enjoyed a fun-filled day at Wurstfest in New Braunfels in November! We rode the WurstWagon, drank beer, ate pork chops on a stick, sausage, and schnitzel, explored the park, and listened to all the great music. We had the best time on our “wurst” behavior! Thank you to all who joined us! Special thanks to Carolyn and Judy for coordinating this event!

Our club participated in Sunday with Santa and Aggie Market Day on December 3. This was a fun event, and we’re glad we participated!

The A&M Club deemed this event a success, and we agree! Club members showcased their talents by creating beautiful Christmas and Aggie wreaths, handmade fabric purses, cute Christmas earrings, M&M-filled ornaments, hot chocolate mix and

marshmallow-filled ornaments, and cute reindeer packages. We also had an A&M Snowman Throw, which was won by our very own Mandy Scott!

Our efforts raised over $1,000! Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help and enjoy the day with everyone. We look forward to next year!

Our Annual Scholarship “Bingo for Bags & Bling” Luncheon is planned for Saturday, February 10. Tickets will be $60 for each person, which will include a sit-down meal, bingo cards, morning coffee & mimosas, door prizes, vendors, and silent auction items. Sponsorship tables of ten will be available for $5,000, $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, and $1,000, so consider purchasing a table and inviting ten of your closest friends and

LEADING THE CHARGE: A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE YOUNG AGGIES Howdy, I am thrilled to step into the role of Coordinator for our vibrant community, and I wanted to take a moment to share with you why I eagerly accepted this responsibility, my vision for the future, and exciting upcoming events.

Why I Took on the Position: Having been a part of the San Antonio A&M Club for some time now, I’ve witnessed the incredible energy and passion that define our community. However, I also recognized the need for a dedicated space and platform for our young Aggies to connect, grow, and thrive. This realization sparked my desire to take on the role of Coordinator for the Young Aggies of San Antonio. I believe that by fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and engagement, we can not only enhance our own experiences but also contribute significantly to the larger Aggie community.

My Vision for the Future: As we embark on this journey together, my primary goal is to create an inclusive and dynamic environment where every young Aggie feels valued and connected.

I envision a community that actively supports personal and professional growth, facilitating networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and events that reflect the diverse interests of our members.

Moreover, I aim to establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide unique opportunities for skill development, career advancement, and community outreach. By leveraging our collective strength, we can make a lasting impact on both our members and the broader San Antonio community.
