Welcome to the 2023 club year on behalf of the San Antonio A&M Club Board of Directors! We have offically hit the oneyear anniversary of the reopening of Aggie Park and your San Antonio A&M Club Board of Directors is hard at work planning a fun and exciting event year for you, our club members.
Our beautifully renovated club facility was made possible by the support of close to 500 individuals and organizations sharing their time, talents, and treasures to ensure Aggie Park is positioned to serve our membership and community for many decades to come. Special recognition goes to Paul Denham ‘80 the 2017 Club President whose vision and leadership were the driving force behind the Aggie Park Capital Campaign renovation and expansion project. Additional recognition goes to the Aggie Park Construction Committee including Reagan Freiling ’93, Don Preecs ’83, Logan Richter ’05, and Sloane Wendell ’98. These individuals gave tirelessly of their time to meet with contractors,
vendors, and service providers, and supplied daily oversight of the construction project. Did I mention the renovation was completed without incurring any debt? Incredible, right? If you haven’t had an opportunity to stop by Aggie Park in the last year, make plans to join us for Muster and experience the remarkable improvements first hand.
Our scholarship fundraising season will “tee off” soon with the San Antonio A&M Club’s Aggie Golf Classic on Friday, March 31. The tournament will once again take place at Canyon Springs Golf Club. This event has sold out the past two years so reserve your spot today at www.aggiepark. com.
April is a busy month for the San Antonio A&M Club, including expecting record-breaking attendance at Muster on April 21. Arrangements have been made for overflow parking at Antonian High School with shuttle service provided, so plan to arrive early. For the first time since 2019, we will host the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, Ross Volunteer Company, Fish Drill Team, and Parsons Mounted Cavalry for lunch during their visit to San Antonio for the Fiesta Battle of

The San Antonio A&M Club Foundation has two endowment accounts, the Aggie Park Endowment and the Scholarship Endowment, established and invested for the purpose of providing long term stability to maintain our Club home, Aggie Park, and helping to sustain our Club scholarship program. The Aggie Park Endowment Committee (APEC) is responsible for overseeing the management of these two accounts and for growing the endowments by promoting and soliciting charitable gifts. Serving with me on APEC are Tim Montfort ‘08, Bill Hill ‘84, and newly appointed for 2023, Doug Bock ‘84 and Logan Richter ‘05. Working in tandem with APEC is our three-member Investment Committee of Bob Johnson ‘90, Richard Kardys ‘67, and Scott McMillan ‘89 who have dedicated double-digit years of tenure providing informed investment advice and guidance.
Although the economy and the market have been on quite a roller coaster ride since March of 2020, both of our endowment accounts ended the 4th quarter of 2022 in recovery mode which has continued through early 2023 as shown in the balances below.
If you are interested in supporting the future of our Club, please consider a donation to the Aggie Park Endowment and/or the Scholarship Endowment as a part of your annual charitable giving, when making memorial gifts, or where applicable, as a qualified charitable distribution directly from your IRA to satisfy all or a portion of your RMD. To make a gift visit www.aggiepark.com and click on Donate.

In December the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club assembled and delivered goody bags to about 200 students, co-hosted Sunday with Santa, and celebrated the holidays at our fun and festive December general meeting. After all that, we were ready for a break for the remainder of December and most of January.
The program at our first meeting of the new year on February 7th was “Taylor’s Place: A Home Away from Home” with Tanya Gillespie of Taylor’s Place in College Station as
the guest speaker. Tanya and her husband T.J. were selected as the 2020-2021 Texas A&M Parents of the Year for their selfless service to the university and to cadets in particular. In memory of their son Taylor Gillespie ‘11, T.J. and Tanya moved to Aggieland in 2014, bought a house, and opened Taylor’s Place. We heard their inspirational story of how they turned their grief into a mission to provide a welcoming, faith-based, homelike atmosphere for Texas A&M students as they face the challenges of transitioning into university life. Taylor’s Place treasurer, Mario Guel ‘07 , was also present and spoke about their finances and fundraising efforts. Our club always enjoys hearing stories and updates from Taylor’s Place!
We hosted, Dr. Jill Grimes, author of “The Ultimate College Student Health Handbook:Your Guide to Everything from Hangovers to
Homesickness,” at our general meeting on March 7th. Dr. Grimes gave our Aggie moms some advice and encouragement with a dash of humor!
We are hard at work now to prepare for our club’s Boots and Bling Gala on March 25, 2023. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we would love to see you there! Last year we brought in enough money to fund a new endowed scholarship and would like to do the same this year. More information can be found on the Aggie Park website and on the Aggie Moms’ website.
For anyone who is interested in joining the San Antonio Aggie Moms’ Club, our meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month (except for January, June, and July) at 6:30 p.m. at Aggie Park. We have a simple meal, a guest speaker or other programs, and drawings for door prizes and a $250 scholarship. For more information, please send inquiries to our club email at sanantoniomoms@ aggienetwork.com or to me directly at samomspresident@aggienetwork. com.

Howdy! The Aggie Women’s Club is still busy supporting the San Antonio A&M Club by having slices of pies at Monday luncheons, and helping with Muster, Feed the Band, and Family BBQ.
The current president of the San Antonio A&M Club, Becki Holmes, gave an update at our February luncheon meeting.
Our club will be having a tour and tasting at Rebecca Creek on May 20th with the cost of $10.00 per person. If you are interested in attending, please contact the SA Aggie Women’s Club.
We will host our next scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Aggie Park. More information coming soon. Our event this past October was very successful and we appreciate all who attended.
We have our luncheon meetings on the second Thursday of the month September – May at 11 am. March’s luncheon meeting was held on March 9, 2023, at Matamoros Mexican Restaurant. On April 12, 2023, we will be meeting at Milano’s on Wurzbach.
If you are interested, or know someone who is interested in our club, please have them contact Donna Hill, dchill1025@att.net or at 210-241-6719.
Sandy DeitchleThe San Antonio Young Aggies have kicked off 2023 in great stride. In January, we met at The Rustic and in February we met at Camp 1604 for our monthly Aggie Happy Hours. These events had a great turnout, with a wide range of class years represented. Our Aggie Happy Hour was held on March 16 at Aggie Park.
We are currently on the lookout for a venue to serve as our meeting place for our Game Watch Parties this fall, but we have hopes of finding a great venue in central San Antonio.
