In this month’s magazine, we want to examine the media as a sphere of influence. People today consume a lot of media in all forms: videos, audio, written content, and more. These contents, as we call them, are available on various platforms.

We can access social media networks like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn. There are also many podcast platforms offering both video and audio content. Subscribers are by the millions for these platforms. They consume these contents, which directly or indirectly impact and influence their lives, thoughts, opinions, and even choices.

We call the content-providing people “Influencers”. Why is that? Precisely because they influence people, positively or negatively, but they have a considerable influence. This month, we want to dive into the media and its relationship with our faith, our responsibility as Christians and believers, and our approach to content and media. We are called to go out there and make disciples, in other words, to influence people with the message of hope and the new lifestyle that Jesus has shown.

Unfortunately, this is not what we see. Paul warned us to “not be conformed (influenced) by this world,” but this is precisely what is happening today. Many worldly things are entering the church or Christian life. We see many Christian versions of worldly doings, things that should not be part of the Christian lifestyle, yet they constantly find a place. We are being influenced instead of being influential.

We also have news sources that significantly influence public opinion on politics and other important matters. When discussing news sources, we refer to CNN, L’Express, Top FM, Sky News, and many other news outlets. With the advent of technology, these news sources are more than just newspapers or magazines; they are accessible in any way possible! Printed, online, subscriptions, audio, video, etc. News outlets have a crucial role because they are engaged in reporting to the public about the many

things happening in countries, both locally and internationally. They are the ones who cover most and all aspects of politics, daily living, and so many more. News anchors have a solid and influential voice, too, as they report and give their “expert opinions” on the matters they cover.

How many of these reports are true? How

much of this news is real truthful reporting? We have heard the rise of “Fake News” powered by AI and wrong motives. Know ing whether what we read is genuine or fake today is challenging! The other risks of such control and influence exerted by these news outlets that have become major media networks is their endorsement of progres sive and unbiblical cultural behaviours and policies like LGBT, abortion rights, political orientation and so many more. They heavily impact peoples opinions and choices on politics and policies.

How do we as christian navigate amongst all these? Lets try to find our way in this edition of “The Christian Executive”

This article explores how the media can strengthen the key pillars of Mauritian society—family, education, religion, governance, and the economy—while avoiding destructive practices. For Christians and all media professionals, the challenge is to use this influence responsibly, contributing to the nation’s growth and stability.

As in any nation, Mauritius’s society is built on several pillars that uphold its stability and progress. Let’s examine these pillars, the media’s role in supporting them, and real-life examples of success and challenges.
