GARDENING: Spruce Up Your Environment with these Helpful Tips

In warm-weather environments, Fall is seen as a “second-spring.” This is partially due to the fall rains bringing cooling winds to the hot days, which breeds a perfect environment to begin planting flower and vegetable gardens. Take advantage of the cooler morning hours and amplify your garden!

1. ASSESS THE CURRENT STATE OF YOUR GARDEN AREA.

a. Take note of what is thriving and what is struggling to survive.

2. THINK BIG!

a. Visualize a flower bed, blooming shrubs, or even small blooming trees to really make an impact.

a. Add more fall bloomers to your landscape.

Fall-Blooming Flowers:

● Include some containers for versatile color options and easy transportation to guard against cold storms.

● Share the love! Consider which plants would make good gifts for gardening friends and share the excitement for new plants!

Who We Are 9

A Commentary

The Woman King is a sensational new movie starring Viola Davis, a theatrical force to be reckoned with. Her career has been seasoned with characterizations that exemplify the inner and exterior strength of Black women. Even though her role as General Nanisca in this movie solidifies her expertise as an actor and activist, it does so much more than that…it firmly establishes her as an icon in the industry!

To reign in an industry that has systematically denied Black women the right to authentic self expression, is an accomplishment all by itself. Kudos to the movie’s director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) and the all-star cast that consisted of exceptional actors such as Thuso Mbedu (The Underground Railroad), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die), Sheila Atim (Doctor Strange: In the Mouth of Madness), John Boyega (Star Wars: Episode VII-IV) and Jimmy Odukoya (Mamba's Diamond).

The story is based in the 1800s in the African kingdom of Dahomey. A group of all-female fierce warriors called the Agojie protected their new king and his kingdom from local warring tribes in their region and European and American invaders. General Nanisca and her courageous tribe of warriors would fight to the death for the cause of their king. She gently tries to persuade him to stop participating in the slave trade with the notion that eventually it would destroy their way of life.

The Agojie tribe inspired the fictional Dora Milaje female army in the movie “Black Panther.” Their ferocious take no prisoners style of combat and training was at the center of this action packed movie. This required extensive fitness training for the female actors in the movie. For her role in The Woman King, Davis trained a minimum of five hours a day for three months. Her hard work is evident in every scene. She did 90% of her stunts in the movie.

Even though this movie is nontraditional for Hollywood, it has all of the characteristics of a blockbuster. It’s inspirational, has strong performances by its actors, maintains strong character development regardless of its pace, is action packed and memorable. There has been some controversy as to the authenticity of the story told, but that’s what Hollywood does, it takes a little bit of truth and personifies it exponentially.

Jasmine:

“I wanna go back to one of the first times you saw a dark skinned black woman on your TV screen, which was Miss Cicely Tyson in the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. Tell everyone a little bit about what that transformative moment of seeing her on your TV screen was like for you. Because I think a lot of people are going to have that same experience watching this film.“

Viola Davis:

“Well, I just think it’s hard to see a dream when you don’t see a physical manifestation of it. My sisters and I, all remember that moment… not only seeing her, but seeing her do that work at that level of excellence. It gave me permission to believe that I could do it. I think sometimes you need to be given permission. I understand that a lot of the mentality out there is going it alone and manifesting it yourself, But I think that we need each other. Especially when you sort of are in a culture that is so marred and weighed down by a history that tells you that you are nothing. So with her lips and that unapologetic performance, and you know I know her. I knew her. So I talked to her a few weeks before she passed, and to have that relationship was enormous for me. So that’s what Miss Tyson was to me and my sisters… it was like the big rope that just sort of dropped down into whatever pit I was in at that time and gave me permission to climb and I think that it’s sort of an awesome legacy to be able to do that for someone else.”

The Woman King is a gateway film for both old and young Black women across the Diaspora who haven’t seen their authentic selves in a film of this magnitude. It speaks to possibility and even more to probability. Perhaps it will assist in providing the hope necessary to continue the fight for equal representation in an industry that has often denied the true beauty of the multidimensional facets of the Black women to shine in front and behind the camera for centuries.

Davis had this to say about the movie in her interview with Jazmine Hughes from The New York Times.

You Are What You Eat!

What NOT to Do, Unless You Want to be Sick and Tired and Have Unhealthy Weight Stick to You like Glue.

This phrase “You Are What You Eat” is well known around the world, but do you really know what it means?

Literally, your body rebuilds itself (cells, bones, bodily fluids) using the materials it gathers from what you eat and drink.

Think about a plant that thrives on water, sunlight and proper soil conditions. You take great care of this plant by giving it what it needs. Then you decide to change up its diet. Everyday you pour soda instead of water. Even if you keep everything else the same, is the plant going to thrive on the soda? What about if you put chips and fast food in the soil? Would you expect it to be healthy or get sick?

Our human bodies are similar. We need natural food and water, not modified, fried, sugary “food”. If you are dealing with health challenges, your nutrition is the first place to start making changes!

In a time where our first response can be to go to the doctor (who is paid by insurance, who is paid by the pill producers). There is no wonder why almost everyone we know takes at least 1 prescribed or over the counter drug per day.

What if you didn’t have to be dependent on the pill bottle for every sniffle and scratch?

It's time to take your health into your own hands!

● Reduce your stress levels naturally

● Shed unhealthy extra weight (emotional and mental weight counts ;)

● Change your life for the better

If you’re asking, Where do I start? That’s a great question!

Start by adding more | Fruit Produce Water | to your daily intake.

Once you do that, reducing the junk will get easier, because your body will be comforted by the natural foods (just like the plants).

Learn more about taking GREAT care of your body, watch the futuristic show, Yogaverze.

Define fashion in your own words.

Fashion is an expression. Fashion is you giving someone insight into your soul. That’s really what fashion is. A physical representation of what is inside. That is so beautiful. What is it you like best about being a fashion designer?

The ability to create, the ability to help people discover their own personal style and fashion. The ability to see beauty where sometimes it’s hard to see.

That’s very profound. When and how did it all begin?

Well, I would say you have two schools of thought when it comes to fashion. You have those who are born with it instinctually. You also have those who are inspired to learn it. In my case, I would say I was pretty much probably just blessed to bond with it and I also learned to improve on that. So, my uncle was a very fashionable person. I’m from Cameroon. He had the number one boutique in Cameroon. He has a friend who went to the same school in France. So that’s my mentor. I was exposed to the industry very early. I inherited some, and I learned some.

from my uncle. That’s where that shift came in. You know, I helped him in his boutique at a very young age. I fell in love with fashion there. I didn’t play soccer in Africa. A friend of mine plays soccer in my three-piece suits. That’s how my focus on clothing came about.

That’s unique. I like the story, even if you are from Africa and not playing soccer. That already makes you unique, and I think it’s cool what your uncle did. Like, he kind of cultivated, helped to cultivate what was already there within you. So, are you self-taught or did you study?

A combination of both? Yes, I went to fashion school, but I am also selftaught and not every fashion designer follows the conventional way where you go to fashion school, or you’re privileged to have an uncle who is a mentor. You can come from anywhere and learn fashion. To me, it’s the best education. You cannot learn anything if you don’t apply yourself. So, I’m always learning. Now I’m still teaching and teaching myself, you know, to do better as a fashion designer.

What do you believe are the essential elements needed to be successful as a fashion designer?

The core response to the answer to that question is that you can be successful with general knowledge. Unfortunately, it is one of those few times where people don’t take you seriously. Just because you have a degree doesn’t make you a fashion designer. Unfortunately, I sometimes get mistaken for only being a fashion designer. I went to fashion school; I have a master’s degree and I have a PhD. So, it’s like every other trade, you have to learn the trade. You must learn the elements that go into fashion. You must understand manufacturing, understand design, understand production, and all of that makes you a solid fashion designer.

What ethics are important for people involved with fashion?

It’s good to be authentic. One thing that I dislike is fake compliments in fashion. Let me go back - you see fashion is show biz. You have the fashion side and the business aspect when getting involved in the industry. Just focusing on the business side is not good, and getting lost on the fashion side is not good. You must know both. The business is necessary to sustain the fashion side, but you must give people the way. You have some fashion designers that are just about making money; that’s not authentic. You must deliver; you have to make your clientele be their best special selves. The money follows. I believe that when you perfect your craft; you do a wonderful job and get rewarded. So, I’m not in fashion because of money, but money will come because I did a good job.

My inspiration comes from everywhere. And the beauty of fashion is that we have great fashion designers who have come before us. You know, they worked with only a solid foundation. We always know fashion evolves. But what they’ve done, the things that influenced my methods are that they designed suits. The original suit was designed two hundred years ago. So, as a fashion designer, what do I do? There’s innovation intestinal, there’s innovation in modern personal technology, all of that. So, my fashion is full of tradition and also the modern world. For example, the new guys are wearing the phone keys, you have a car, you’re busy and it cuts down on the time you have to get somewhere. How do I make you look elegant in that lifestyle? So that’s where the inspiration comes from. It comes from designers from the past and the modern man and his needs.

Creative expressions can take many forms. What made you decide to start your own fashion brand?

Good question. Yes. Really, if I weren’t a fashion designer, I would be an interior designer. My family exposed me to design in my early childhood years. That’s where my specialty started. I’m the guy that wants to make sure my home is neat, there’s no playing in the beds and no wrinkles on my bed. My shoes are positioned perfectly in a place of convenience for easy access. It’s very nice. And if I come to your house during the holidays, I will fix anything that needs fixing regarding clothing. The clothing part came

How would you advise someone to dress for a job interview?

So, in a job interview, you always have to be aware of the spirit of the time they feel you are in. It makes sense to look at the defined business attire of the society where you are. So, I mean if you’re in the western world of course the suit, you know, it just depends on where you are, the business attire of the area, that’s what it is. And I also would not assume that every job interview requires you to wear a suit. This will depend on the industry. I mean, if you’re going for a construction job where you’re working outside, you may want to look technical and that’s a suitable outfit for that field. So, you want to match your industry and be aware of what’s expected in your society.

That leads to the next question. Who or what are your inspirations for creating your designs?
Spotlight 17

Do you prefer traditional, illustrating styles or newer digital mediums?

Traditional. And that’s a good question because there’s this divide in the fashion world where all designers are having a hard time transitioning to the digital, even the factories. You know, when we communicate with the factory where some things are made, it’s very hard sometimes for them to understand the digital and some are just purely digital where it is also hard for them to do their design. I think we must evolve. I don’t think digital is fully ready yet. But that’s the future. I really believe that in the next 10 years we’re all going to have an avatar to make a business suit where I can show you 3-D rendering of the design even before you see the suit.

So that’s the future?

So, I work on board. You know I still do the traditional, but I’m learning the new which is digital. Everything I wear is my design except my casual streetwear.

doctor. You want to be a lawyer; you go to law school and fashion is the same way. Not that you must go to a conventional school, but I mean, give yourself time and learn the trade. You have to understand the ins and outs, and that will allow you to progress more and will allow you to better function in this business.

As for fashion, I would say this seriously, it’s a big business like any other business. The richest Europeans in the fashion world are not people that everybody knows. So it’s a very serious business. Like here in the United States, if you look at television, the television stars need tailors. I have about seven here. They tell me all the stars have told them it’s very hard to find tailors. You should go to a fashion school in order to become a tailor. There is a demand in this economy. The average tailor makes at least $100,000 a year. Those who are fast and quick get the girl they make u$150,000 a year. But there’s money involved. But nobody is doing it. Everyone working in the television industry are immigrants.

You have many people who want to get into fashion. What I’ve mentioned earlier are the building blocks to become a good designer. These are the foundational things you’ve got to be able to create. Unfortunately, when some designers leave fashion school, they can’t make anything or it’s not well made. I would say to a new young designer, buy a sewing machine, get a mentor to teach you, sit under a master tailor, and get trained. I will help you on your journey.

How would you describe your personal attire?

I have what you call the traditional style. You have the British traditional, the Italian edgy and colorful, the French style is in the middle. It has the balance where I can go traditionally or can go edgy. I focus more on classical work, I would say. I’m more on the French side where on my street wear sometimes I go edgy. That’s kind of my stuff. It’s a mixture.

Are you passionate about something apart from fashion?

Absolutely. I love architecture. I love interior design. I’m very passionate about those things. They’re also related in some type of way. How do you want men to feel when wearing your clothes? I want them to feel confident and elegant. Feel like they’re on top of the world.

Beautiful. Do you have any advice for aspiring menswear designers?

Absolutely. Take the job seriously, like any other profession. People are told to ask questions. I used to do that all the time, making appointments with key people in the industry. This has made me who I am today. Today, if I were an aspiring designer, I would say, give me a consultant. Someone who has mentored about twenty young adults from fashion school. Sometimes aspiring designers want to be designers on their terms. The issue is that they’re treating it as a hobby. You cannot succeed with general knowledge. You need special knowledge in every profession, including fashion. If you want to be a medical doctor, you go to school for 7 to 9 years to be a

The Connaisseur Paris Story

What aspects of the fashion industry would you like to change?

Right now, when you say you’re doing true high end fashion, you will not see it globally. And the reason being is that all the factories were concentrated in Italy. Even the French built a factory in Italy. The British, with globalization, opened a factory in Asia. What happened was the quality was not good for mass production. But if you are looking for high end fashion, look to Italy.

I would love some of that education. You have talent everywhere. I would love to have some factories come back to the US or Africa. Both countries have great potential for fashion. You have many talented individuals all over the world. Why not have a factory there? Why not? We have Africa. Even the African prints, the quality ones, are not made in Africa. They are made in Europe. So those are some discrepancies that I would like to be changed. We need industries in the local markets to satisfy their local needs. My friends in Africa don’t have to be coming from Europe to make clothing, especially when you have the raw material. I would like to change the industry to provide manufacturing where the source is, and it also becomes where the market is. You know, where we have big consumer fashion, which you have in the factory. We should have fashion schools there. We should also have a factory for clothing.

“Connaisseur Paris was born out of necessity in a time when luxury meant quality and quality meant luxury. The lifestyle of the 1% could only be a dream and not a reality. Alain Chaps and Julius Ade, French Cameroonian fashion designers, set out to disrupt the men’s suit couture world—22 years later, what was a dream is now a lifestyle of choice. The goal of the brand is to become the leading high-end couture brand providing luxury anyone could afford. The men’s fashion house is spreading its tentacles far and near through the work of the two visionary founders: Alain and Julius with Connaisseur Paris stores in Paris, France; and in the United States: Houston, Atlanta, Silver Spring, Upper Marlboro and with time, many more stores.”[1]

The Rise of Afrobeats Music Genre

In the Aughts era, Afrobeats, a genre straight out of West Africa, has been making great strides in popularity internationally, finding appeal all over the world. Coined after the music done by the legendary Fela Kuti of the 70s, Afrobeats has tunes with elements of electronic and dance music set to African percussion, as well as including hints of highlife, dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B, the sum of all things in music expressed through the black experience. Afrobeats is usually sung in English, West African languages, and pidgin dialect, giving the songs variety and diversity in their styles. From Wizkid to BurnaBoy to Davido, Afrobeats grew in presence over the course of the 2010s with hit singles and albums releasing and breaking into international markets like the United States and United Kingdom.

How it started in popularity had much to do with the rise of MTV Base Africa as well as the Hottest Coalition of Nigerian DJs who wanted to promote the genre to the African diaspora abroad. It’s something they consistently pushed until Afrobeats grew in popularity within the decade. Many Afrobeats songs abroad started only in African spaces like weddings or birthday parties but started their osmosis into other event spaces like clubs as well as garnering notice on social media.

People like Wizkid and BurnaBoy went so far as to win Grammys and many American artists are interested in jumping into the scene and participating in crossovers and collaborations, such as the recent music video remake of “Calm Down” by Rema featuring Selena Gomez. Many of the artists that came into their own in Afrobeats originated in Nigeria, the largest country in population on the continent of Africa; however, many other Africans from other nations like Ghana have also participated in the scene.

Afrobeats also has an element of political activism and commentary about it, which is apt considering it’s based on the legacy of Kuti, who was very political. It has commentary talking about the legacy of colonialism that affected Africa, but it has also said a lot of the endemic corruption that causes strife throughout the continent. Afrobeats artists even bolstered activists’ movements like the #End Sars protests happening in Nigeria.

Knowing this, many people around the world, especially the African Diaspora have embraced the style, substance, and legacy that Afrobeats has given to world culture. More and more Afrobeats artists have come to the spotlight to join the old guard to ensure the legacy of African music stays alive in the modern world for years to come.

Music Sent You

Turn up the boom, up the treble

Music of yours fuels my inner rebel

In my suffering of summertime’s absence

Your lyrics shine on me in my darkest hour

You satisfy my heart, Even though we’re far apart

When I hear the words stream from your vocal chords, My soul softens and smiles

Influence my mind with your clever hooks and verses I get lucid dreams when you flow from my speakers

Four years I’ve listened and waited

Four years I’ve watched and learn

For years, my love for you will continuously burn

Arab Night in Houston

There is a particular event happening in East Downtown, where Arab culture is celebrated, and the community comes together to vibe. It’s called Arab Night created by an artist who is very invested in celebrating and exchanging culture by the name of Carlos Castaneira. Carlos’ Arab Night, like other events he organized, is devoted to keeping an authenticity of not just culture but also the community from which the culture is from. Usually an average of two dozen, many people whether they be Arabs or non-Arabs come together to enjoy the food, talk in the language, and partake in music and dance native to the Arab people.

In the Greater Houston area, research from the Arab American Cultural and Community Center has calculated only 200,000 Arab Americans present in the region due to Census Bureau not providing an option to identify as MENA or Middle Eastern and North African making the current data dubious and potentially inaccurate. Despite this, there is large amounts of activity among the Houstonian Arab community because of their tightly knit associations, whether they be Palestinian, Lebanese, Jordanian, and so on.

Afrovibes TV has interviewed Carlos and many of his guests about the direction Arab Night is going towards. The event is something that many of the guests look forward to every time it gets announced. Carlos mentions he didn’t want the event to be a watered-down, Americanized experience that would amount to more of a

theme park of Arabic culture. By having many from the MENA community be a part of it, it ensures that there’s a space that many in the Arab community can look forward to for the days to come. Arab Night is monthly or bi-monthly now with a capacity limit of invited people up to thirty per night. There is much good food to be enjoyed like the dates and the tea provided. Many will listen and participate to the rhythm of the drums and oud play. In Arab Night, one can understand the Arab community as it was supposed to be understood, all here in the diverse city of Houston.

WEALTH IS A MINDSET

AfroVibes TV & Radio

They say that being considered wealthy, or rich is a mindset. Wealth has many different meanings depending on the person you ask. From dancing on stages for hit celebrities, working at popular clubs in Houston, attending exclusive events and video shoots one can say I live a dream life. After 4 years of freestyle gogo dancing, and chasing my dreams in many other avenues in entertainment I've realized some things. It all started with a question to myself. ‘mm half a day's work (not including rehearsals in the prior weeks) when others were on the same stage, or on the same project making hundreds of thousands of dollars?” I was always leaving feeling drained inside and out with body aches, and my career wasn't excelling forward in the ways I had planned. ‘Wth is going on truly?’ I asked myself.

Amongst the trials in my personal life, and feeling more drained than I did fulfilled at the time I came to a realization that it was time to approach things differently, and get to know my purpose here on this Earth. Then I began my journey living a conscious purpose driven life, and I came to a knowing of my worth. I committed to doing what made me feel more blissful, and dug deep into my roots to innerstand what makes me, me. The inner work I sought after with God led me to more healthy loving relationships, divine opportunities in the pursuit of my purpose, leading in ministry, and conscious mentorship.

To sum it all up my passion for living a wealthy abundant life inside and out began to overflow. I chose to live by what God told me was the way, rather than what the world was distracting me to do. Now I am broker building my own finance business as a licensed professional educating individuals, and families of all backgrounds on how to grow and protect their assets, as well as thriving in the entertainment space as a multi talented creative. To God be the glory all of this is so, while not having to clock in and out, ask for more shifts, or for an off day! My life is in God's hands, not the world. Abundant living inside and out? I can check that off of my goal list, but WAIT… at each new level in life there's more to learn and something to unlearn.

Mental Health Mental Health

and Its Importance and Its Importance

Mental Health is something that doesn't get enough attention although it is essential in every stage of living from childhood to adulthood. Mental health takes a toll on one's emotions and well being. It affects how one thinks, feels and acts, how well one handles stress, how one relates to others and the choices one makes and is linked to one's physical health. Mental health is an experience most do not step up and speak freely about but there are early warning signs (cry for help) that can be a means of access to getting better and towards complete recovery.

Early Warning Signs:

1. Little to no eating or sleeping

2. Avoiding and pulling away from people and activities

3. Low energy and unexplained aches

4. Drinking, smoking, or using drugs more than usual

5. Feeling hopeless or numb to many things

6. Feeling of confusion, anger, forgetfulness or worry,

7. Excessive mood swings, fighting and yelling with family members and friends

8. Thinking of self harm or harming others

Mental health is worth making time for, being that it is influenced by many factors. Mental health is part of being human and is changeable. Here are ways in which one can boost their mental health

Ways To Increase Mental Health:

1. Staying active: Although it is ideal to give the brian a rest, too much rest is a way in which negative thoughts begin to creep in. Staying active is good for the brain just as it is important for the body. Activities such as exercising, meditation, yoga, writing, reading, dancing, or even learning or teaching a new skill etc.

2. Talk to someone: During a tough time like this, talking to someone you trust and who cares or possibly a therapist is a good being that holds too much in and it is a most effective way to calm your nervous system and relieve stress.

3. Eat healthy and do not cling to sleep: Most times when people are going through tough times two things one adapts to is overeating and sleeping problems away which might seem like a great outcome but is actually affecting one more.

4. Find purpose and meaning: Engage in something that you love and enjoy, that makes you feel useful, spend quality time with people who matter to you and vice versa.

5. Drink and Smoke Sensible and if not able to stay away from it being that it is not a logical way to manage difficult feelings.

6. Never be afraid to seek professional help

COVID-19 AND MONKEYPOX: A 2022 ANALYSIS

Since 2020, the world has faced a paradigm shift with the rise of sweeping epidemics, such as Covid-19. The consequences for the world are far reaching and the threat of being infected still is a danger to face every time someone goes out of their homes or meets people. Worse yet, the rise of monkeypox adds the danger of interacting with people. It is important to be aware of how such diseases spread, how you can prevent infection, and challenge misconceptions and misinformation about the disease. Your very life may depend on it in the long run.

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection caused by the monkeypox virus, which belongs to the same family of smallpox. It typically occurs in central and western Africa. Sometimes, small clusters or isolated infections are diagnosed in other countries.Transmission of monkeypox virus usually occurs due to close contact with infected animals such as rodents and monkeys and is limited between people.

The main strategy to prevent the monkeypox virus depends on limiting human contact with infected animals and limiting person-to-person spread. You can prevent the monkeypox virus in the following ways:

• Avoid contact with infected animals (especially sick or dead animals).

• Only eat foods that contain animal meat or parts after washing and cooking.

• Use personal protective equipment (PPE)when caring for people infected with the virus.

• Avoid contact with bedding and other materials contaminated by the person infected with the virus.

• Wash your hands with soap and water after coming into contact with an infected animal.

• Information about all recent travel and attendance of mass gathering events, festivals, and parties, and contact with any known cases should be informed to the health care professionals

According to CDC, Covid-19 is spread through numerous factors when under exposure to someone that is infected. Factors that determine likelihood of exposure include: the length of time present, the amount of coughing or heavy breathing the infected frequently did, the presence of symptoms from the infected, the use of masks from both the infected and healthy individuals, the effectiveness of filtration systems within an indoor environment, and the distance from the infected from the healthy individual. For example, one is more likely to be infected in the presence of a coughing infected person with no mask, while being close to them for 15 minutes than someone who is wearing a mask, while maintaining a distance under 2 minutes.

Symptoms include fever, cough, breathing difficulties, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste and smell, sore throat, nausea, congestion, and diarrhea. Symptoms last for an average of 1 to 2 weeks. However, the real risk comes for people of young and old age as well as immunocompromised individuals, since they are the most vulnerable to severe symptoms on such individuals that can even amount to death. Social distancing, quarantining, masking, and healthy cleaning habits can mitigate the spread of Covid-19. Vaccines, such as those created by Pfizer and Moderna, can significantly protect one from the more dangerous effects of Covid. Antibiotic treatments also help to an extent.

In summation for Covid-19, here are the following facts to debunk misinformation about the virus:

• Fact: Started from an animal outbreak in Wuhan, China.

• Fact: Covid-19 spreads through the degree of exposure in the presence of infected persons, such as distance of people, length of time, filtration systems, and exhibition of symptoms present.

• Fact: Social Distancing, Masking, and Vaccination will help mitigate or prevent the effects of Covid.

• Fact: Vaccination is not a 100% prevention from Covid-19, but it protects people from Covid’s full effects as opposed to people without vaccination.

• Fact: Covid has affected more underprivileged communities due to improper housing, involvement in essential occupations, and lack of proper healthcare access.

What is yoga anyway?

Yoga is thought to be only flexible pretzel poses and zen monk-like postures. Nope! Yoga can be the challenging images you see online, however, yoga poses are just ⅛ of the yoga practice.

It also includes awareness of breath and paying attention to your own thoughts. Notice I didn’t say silence your thoughts, that’s an arbitrary myth.

Helpful Tips For Dealing with Seasonal Depression Helpful Tips For Dealing with Seasonal Depression

There are many people who struggle with maintaining their mental health during certain times of the year. Seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorder is something that millions of people suffer from. If you are someone that deals with this you are not alone; millions of people all over the world have seasonal depression and many of them don’t even know. Some symptoms may include fatigue, anxiety, social withdrawal, appetite changes, lack of concentration and many others. Although this disorder may be hard for some to manage, it is possible to overcome the negative feelings that may come with it. Here are a few ways you can help ease your pain:

1. Explore New Hobbies

Trying new things that you’ve been curious about will help you to put this energy into positive things as opposed to sitting in your sadness. It will help you to not only grow your skill set, but it can introduce you to things that you would’ve never guessed you would love and find joy in. There are many talents that are in you that you may not even know you have. Discovering hidden abilities and falling in love with those things can cause you to feel a sense of achievement and accomplishment.

2. Find Healthy Coping Mechanisms

Many people who deal with SAD tend to turn to drugs and alcohol as a form of coping. Although there is nothing wrong with enjoying a drink every now and again, it is not a healthy way to cope with being depressed. There are other enjoyable ways to release these feelings. Go outside and enjoy the sun, dedicate time to self care or start journaling. These are only a few of the many ways you can cope in a healthy way.

3. Stay Well Rested

Sleeplessness is a symptom of SAD and causes people to be moody and can negatively affect the way someone lives their day-to-day life. Without an adequate amount of sleep people can begin to become delusional, cranky and can heavily affect your nervous system and emotional state. Getting enough sleep to be functional is very important especially when you’re in a negative emotional state.

4. Seek Help

There are many counseling programs out there, you just have to find the one that is right for you. Feel free to be as picky as you want when it comes to this, you may not feel like the first one you try is the one that is meant for or helpful to

psychiatric doctor that is fit for your needs. There are free counseling programs out there too, don’t let money be the thing that stops you from getting help. This may be a process but it is worth it!In the meantime, surround yourself with people who you enjoy being around. Surround yourself with people who you know have your best interest at heart. Look for someone who listens to you and is trustworthy with your thoughts and feelings. Comfortability may not come immediately but if you come across someone you’re not so comfortable with and don’t see yourself getting comfortable with, find someone else that will cater to you.

5. Enjoy the Season

No matter what season your SAD hits the hardest, there are ways to enjoy whatever season that is. If it’s fall, go enjoy a football game with your loved ones, go paint pumpkins, go order a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. If it’s winter then go decorate gingerbread people, watch winter movies, go get a peppermint mocha latte from Starbucks. If it’s spring go start a garden, take a hike, go birdwatching. If it’s summer, head out to the lake and go swimming or fishing, go to a music festival or two. These are only examples of ways to enjoy the seasons but find the good things to do during your season of sorrow that will help turn it into a season of joy.

These are a few of the many ways to help you get through your rough season. Find the ways to celebrate life during that time that will work for you. Keep in mind that seasons come and go, these feelings are temporary. You can come out if you put your heart to it.

It’s Carnival

French and British settlers took over the West Indies in the 17th and 18th centuries bringing their diseases, ideas, and religion. We don’t need to relive the details of colonization, however there is one gift that they brought to the Caribbean that is still celebrated today - Carnival! When France came to Trinidad and Tobago, they saw free Black people and British nationals and decided to introduce the tradition of Fat Tuesday. Some say this is the origin of how Caribbean Carnival began. Today, many cultures view Carnival as a time to celebrate freedom, emancipation, and culture. Depending on the country or city, you can expect at least 5 days of festivities including delicious food, high energy music, and beautiful vibratious costumes (and good vibes).

Over the spring and summer you will see different variations of Carnival celebrations pop up internationally. Caribbean and West Indian people across the globe celebrate their culture no matter where they are.

All Carnival celebrations are very unique. The season kicks off in February at the mother of Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago. TNT is the “ OG” Carnival, but there are quite a few that you do not want to miss. If you’ve seen that viral image of Rihanna in her white costume, that was taken at Barbados’ CropOver. Canada has Caribana, the UK has Notting Hill Carnival, and of course most coastal cities in the US have their own Carnival, as thousands of Caribbean people and their descendants have relocated here. Carnival season ends in the US with Miami Carnival in October. The most beautiful fact about this celebration is that it is so coordinated across the world, that no Carnival overlaps with that of another. This way, all the people who want to play mas, can do so without missing a beat.

Festival week, commonly and locally known as Carnival Week or Bacchanal Week usually starts off with fetes. To fete is the West Indian way to party. There is an all white fete, a flag fete, and some sort of wet fete or J’Ouvert. Wet fetes can be similar to a foam party, but in pure Carib style. Historically, countries like Grenada or Trinidad have Jab Jab (an oil fete meant to represent self expression and mocking of the Devil)and. J’Ouvert is a fete similar to Hindu Holi, where participants celebrate life by dancing while covered in paint and powder (except J’Ouvert is not religious and alcohol is encouraged). Depending on the country, J’Ouvert is an all day event that leads up until it‘s time to play mas. People celebrate with traditional food, drinks and Soca or Calypso music. The day that everyone looks forward to is di road. In the morning or the day before, there is usually a kiddie carnival where people under 15 play mas. This is the day of the parade where all the bands display the costumes and walk/dance for approximately 10 miles (shorter distance for kiddie carnival). During the week or at the end of the parade there is usually a concert and party with food to conclude the celebration.

New Year Resolutions and Strategies to Successfully Accomplish Them

New Year Resolutions and Strategies to Successfully Accomplish Them

As 2022 comes to a close, many people are looking forward to what may happen with the coming New Year. With so much going on in the world and with everyone trying to better themselves as they grow older, many people gravitate to resolutions to make significant changes in their lives. However, there are many who end up reneging upon what they promise themselves to do in the new year.

Recent statistics say a large number of people never actually accomplish their resolution or quit their progress as the next year comes. A lot of this is attributed to untracked progress, large and unrealistic goals, forgetfulness, and overextension of different objectives. It is these things that discourage a lot of people from pursuing resolutions. This is why a different perspective is needed when approaching resolutions. First, these resolutions have to be small, measurable, and uncomplicated to increase chances of achieving actual success with them. Second, it does require some amount of discipline and consistency from the person committed to them. Lastly, it is also treating less as an obligation to get done and more something you are looking forward to. There are some suggestions here that will be provided for more efficient and concise resolutions that can be considered for 2023.

• Planning a better budget as well as how and when to spend. It’s recommended for the long term to consider one’s money situation, especially in terms of whether or not the economy is experiencing a downturn or inflation. Considering how much money is thought about, it is most likely something one can be committed to. Make sure the budget plan starts small and not encompassing in case emergencies or unexpected circumstances happen. Try to avoid easy shortcuts with money, especially high-risk situations like investments in stocks or crypto.

• Sustaining health is very important, especially as you grow older. Don’t go for a dramatic change within a year. One has to account for one’s personal discipline for diet and exercise. Like a budget, do small goals like losing five pounds in one week or eat a certain amount of calories for a day. Avoid putting yourself in temptation to things that cause you to ruin your resolution.

• Think about cleanliness or personal hygiene. If one tackles being neat and clean, instead of tackling multiple chores in a single day. Set aside certain days for certain chores, like laundry on Saturday or garbage on Monday. Create a schedule to keep up with the routine so it isn’t easily forgotten or overlooked.

• Make it an objective to learn at least one new skill within the year. It doesn’t need to be mastered, but at least try to know how to do such a skill. The amount of personal passion and investment in wanting to do a skill also factors whether or not it should be a resolution to be pursued. Think about the difficulty and the resources as well. Try to start something simple if it is the first time learning a new skill in a while.

Hopefully, such examples give better strategies to aspire to better planned and feasible resolutions to whoever reads this. Just in summation, start small and don’t overextend, do something that is something that would be beneficial long term, reflect why these resolutions are being pursued, and be better organized and disciplined. Here’s to 2023 and those who seek to better their lives with the coming New Year!

In Unity and Faith, Nigerians Seek Peace and Progress in the Upcoming 2023 Election

2023 will be a decisive year for the Nigerian people as well as the nations of the Niger Delta as a whole, as three candidates of note are running for president in Nigeria. As an American who is always curious about the fate of places beyond my borders, I am closely following the elections because Nigeria has an important role and influence on the continent’s politics.

Two of the candidates are elderly seasoned candidates from the two established parties of Nigerian politics: Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party. A dark horse in the race, Peter Obi or the Labor Party and formerly the running mate to Abubakar in the 2019 elections is also running with a surge of interest from the Nigerian youth. However, these candidates are not without controversy, which doesn’t help Nigeria’s reputation regarding its corruption. That being said, this article aims to explore the importance of these elections for Nigeria’s future and not necessarily to evaluate the faults of the candidates.

Let’s be honest– politics is never clean due to multiple conflicts of interest. In America, while we embrace the rule of law, there is still corruption embedded in certain aspects of American government, some even being made legitimate like lobbying. If we were to frame someone who should be best to take office from an outside point of view. Let’s look at the main ones. Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu are both elderly seasoned candidates representing the most established parties in Nigeria, the APC and the PDP. Atiku and Bola both have consistent controversies leveled against them such as Atiku funneling millions of dollars to his fourth wife in the United States. The transfer of this money enabled him to become owner of the American University of Nigeria, whose pricey tuition was more than what 99% of Nigerians can afford. In 2018, Alpha Beta, a consultancy owned by Bola Tinubu, was at the center of a 100 billion naira fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering scandal from a petition by its CEO and Managing Director, Dapo Apara. Fun fact, both Atiku and Bola are both in trouble with the law in the United States due to charges leveled against them involving corruption, like Tinubu’s American bank account linked with heroin dealing.

Peter Obi of the budding Labor Party isn’t without his faults either. The famous Pandora papers that leaked the names of multiple world leaders and people of interest whose wealth was stored in tax havens around the world or through offshore companies. Obi was one of these people. There is also criticism that his Labor Party lacks the structure and foundation to be established in the Nigerian government.

As for me, I still would support Obi over Tinubu and Abubakar for multiple reasons. Tinubu and Abubakar have been at the political game for a long time, and it would be hard to change their habits and ways such that they

align with creating a viable future for Nigeria. Likewise, Obi is a younger candidate that has a promising vision for Nigeria, as consistently shown in his campaign for the 2023 election. With much at stake for them in this election, youth from all over Nigeria have aligned themselves with him. His supporters are even nicknamed the “Obi-dients.” Furthermore, there was the Million Man March for Peter Obi, where millions marched throughout the country to support Obi. Remember that corruption runs so deep in Nigerian politics and business that it is hard to get ahead without being clean. Based on my observation, Obi seems to be humble, and has something planned for the country as a whole rather than just only for his constituents.

The Philippines is a prime example of what happens when a country’s people remain divided. As a son of an immigrant mother, I was raised in a different environment from where my mother came from, which was the Philippines. Like Nigeria, the Philippines with corruption in its politics all the time. Recently, the Philippine election this year resulted in the victory of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of a former dictator who once ruled the country. Many in the Philippines fear a resurgence of his dark family legacy that Marcos Jr. would bring back to the country. He won because there was division and misinformation among people throughout the country fighting for their own agenda rather than for the future of the Philippines.

Similarly, Nigeria is at a crossroads now. I have seen and heard of the reputation that Nigerians bear because of the abuse of those in power. My home country and Nigeria both share the dark legacy of colonialism in which Western powers ruled our homes. Wasn’t the point of these new nation-states about coming together to build a future together? There are Yoruba, the Hausa, the Igbo, and all the ethnic groups throughout the delta squabbling over what is perceived to be irreconcilable differences. However, what would those differences matter when poverty and violence still are what truly rules the country? What about for the future of the next generation? Or the next generation afterward? Can division or succession among Nigeria can resolve this? The legacy of the Nigerian Civil War and the outside powers that play puppeteers in that conflict.

Nigerians are a hardworking people. When people believe in what they are doing, they can manifest many great things. Many Nigerians left the country to become successful doctors or businessmen in America and elsewhere. Why can’t this happen in Nigeria? To settle old scores? To get what’s yours? When everyone fights over the same thing, they get less than what they originally wanted. Nigerians can make their country clean. It’s possible. Don’t align with anyone who thinks the presidency is more about their turn as opposed to an actual office of civil service to address and enforce the needs of the people. Think about your kids or the generations afterward. This isn’t about who wins but working with the right people to get the nation on track. Many people leave the country to find opportunities elsewhere, but what happens when places like America are closed when you decide to leave. You need to make a difference for the country. Don’t stop with electing the right guy, but go work with your fellow Nigerians to build something.

I’ve always believed in selfdetermination, that the people of a nation can take their destiny into their hands. Whoever you vote for, it doesn’t stop there. Nigeria is the largest democratic country in Africa. Why look to a role model when you can be the role model? While Obi definitely has vision, it would be even greater if Nigeria has a whole generation that follows his example. The future of Nigeria will be decided by the Nigerian people. Time will tell what choice they will make.

THE TECH BREAKTHROUGHS

Amazon continues to rise among the most powerful corporations in the world. While starting out as a business centered around e-commerce, it has branched out to other places of interest, especially in improving their technology. Some of such fields of technology are robotics and artificial intelligence. In 2013, Amazon released their virtual assistant Alexa to the general public. Created by Amazon Lab126, it is capable of voice interaction, music playback, make-to-do lists, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, providing weather reports, and much more. It also has connections to other smart devices and apps. By 2019, Amazon has released 100 million devices enabled by Alexa. Concerns for privacy have been noted due to the data it collects and the potential vulnerability to hackers.

In addition to Alexa, Amazon has been developing a new device from its robotics department dedicated to direct delivery to people that order goods online. It’s called Amazon Scout. It’s a six-wheeled robot created around 2019 to be the next progression in Amazon’s deliveries. The robot is fully electric as part of its net zero carbon emission policies. The robots would be used to replace common delivery carriers. It is with these developments that concerns of jobs being taken away from humans due to this next step in automated delivery have come into the conversation. There is also the concern of such robots being present in neighborhoods for residents not ready for them.

With these developments, Amazon pushes for more progress into artificial intelligence and robotics continues as more investment goes into their respective fields. While concerns for job replacement and privacy are matters of importance, Amazon has continued to try to improve its technology to meet the increasing need for more conveniences and integration of electronic systems in daily life. Whether they succeed is to be seen.

Don’t Be Icky Don’t Be Icky

Dear Men,

If you’ve been single for too long (and it's not by choice) then please know that you are the problem. That is not okay! As your future partner, we want you to be you and we will love you for that. However, you might be doing something that is turning your options away. Let me help you open your eyes. If you see something on this list that reminds you of yourself… honey, this is your hint to change!

1Uncleanliness

Don’t be dirty! Your nails got black stuff under them, your toenails curve, there is a ring around your toilet bowl and bathtub, there is wax flowing from your ears! Just EW! This is gonna make any respectable human being throw up at the thought of being with you. Take a shower at least once a day (2x if you workout), brush your teeth and tongue, floss, and wear new underwear every time you change! Dirty men get no play.

3Obsessed with being the Alpha Man

My mama used to say “What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained”. A true boss will always stand out just by the way they carry themselves. You peon men are not that! If you literally have to say “I am the man” or “ You don’t let me be a man” I’ve got a newsflash for you.. You are NOT him! Gender roles and misogyny are ideas of the past. If the only way you know how to assert dominance is by saying you are a man or constantly trying to prove that you are, nobody will take you seriously. In fact, they will run.

2Disregard for your health

Please be mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. Who is your PCP? When was the last time you got an STD check? Went to the dentist?Drank water? Seen a therapist or at least vented to a close friend? Yeah if you can’t give an answer in 60 seconds, you’re out the door!

4Scrub/bum mentality

Okay look. We all go through tough times, but be for real. Nobody wants to date a scrub! TLC said it in the 90’s and it still applies now. Do not go looking to a partner if the only thing you bring to a table is an empty plate. Most people are reasonable so if you are genuinely going through a short rough patch, that’s okay. Just let your person of interest know that you are not financially ready to be exclusive and serious. However, there is a difference between that and some of you who choose to just be broke. Haven’t had a job or car, bank account in the negatives, and living with your people. I’m not talking about you hustlers that are ACTUALLY on the come up.

All in all, we just want you to be happy and find love. But for crying out loud get it together, men, and be better for you and your partner!

The Coltrane Effect The Coltrane Effect

John Coltrane is a name that exemplifies the essence of what it truly means to be a jazz icon. The sheer level of creativity and technical mastery that Coltrane reached on the saxophone has been recognized across cultural boundaries and has been widely-respected by musicians and artists internationally. Although he died abruptly in 1967, due to liver cancer, Coltrane's genius lives on through the timeless music that he produced during his distinguished career.

Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina. The son of a preacher and grandson of a minister, disaster and adversity struck home in 1938 when Coltrane was only twelve years old. Following the sudden deaths of his father, grandfather, grandmother, and aunt , a young Coltrane looked to music as a means toward survival.

As a young adolescent and on into early adulthood, Coltrane gravitated towards the popularity of bebop music during the 1940s. When he moved to Philadelphia in 1943 with other members of his family, Coltrane threw himself into a vibrant music scene. After a short stint in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II, Coltrane decided to adopt music as his desired profession.

From 1946 to 1955, Coltrane dedicated himself to apprenticeship. He worked up the ranks, backing multiple jazz and R&B singers. In the midst of a busy lifestyle during those developmental years, Coltrane turned to heroin usage in 1951, which he would continue for over half a decade.

1955 to 1959 was a golden time for Coltrane on his way to becoming among the most revered jazz artists in history. In 1955, Coltrane was asked to audition for trumpeter Miles Davis' band. The relatively unknown saxophonist was

intimidated and hesitant at first. However, under Miles' tutelage, Coltrane's confidence would grow exponentially. Their relationship remains one of the most significant in jazz history. The rise of modal jazz, as featured in Miles Davis' most famous album, Kind of Blue, caught Coltrane's attention and strongly influenced his ideological approach to music.

they produced a form of creativity that reflected the turbulence of late 1960s America. It was during these last years of Coltrane's life that he produced his most controversial work.

Despite reaching his highest level of notoriety in 1967, Coltrane's health began to deteriorate. His commitment to his craft never wavered despite this development, continuing to perform and record music. His death on July 17, 1967 sent shockwaves through the music world. Coltrane left behind his wife Alice Coltrane, as well as their four children.

Coltrane emerged from the ashes of family tragedy and local obscurity to blossom into one of the greatest jazz artists to ever walk the earth. His compositions and recordings have been recognized by the Library of Congress, with several inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame. Coltrane has received numerous posthumous accolades, including the Pulitzer Prize in 2007.

From 1959 to 1961, Coltrane left Miles' group behind and began to release some of his most respected work as a solo artist under a new contract with Atlantic Records. One of his most important albums was recorded during this time, Giant Steps. Songs like "Naima" and the title track are jazz masterpieces that stand the tests of time. Coltrane followed up with My Favorite Things in 1961. The album ended up becoming his biggest commercial hit, and the title track remains one of Coltrane's most memorable recordings.

During the early 1960s, Coltrane signed with Impulse Records. He worked on many projects during this time, including his own quintet before forming his "Classic Quartet" which included drummer Elvin Jones and bassist Jimmy Garrison. Coltrane performed ballads and collaborated with the likes of jazz legends like Duke Ellington for example. He had become a force to be reckoned with in the jazz world, headlining nightclubs and festivals. Coltrane had evolved into a well respected artist within American music culture. Coltrane reached the pinnacle of his success in 1965 when he released A Love Supreme. It is widely regarded as his best album and earned Coltrane two grammy nominations, along with the attention of younger listeners. Coltrane was admired by a new generation of Americans with new and more alternative perspectives. Through their political sensitivity and social consciousness,

His legacy is larger than life, especially when considering his rightful place as an African American cultural hero. To this day, it's hard not to recognize the complex but soothing sound of his saxophone. It's safe to say that Coltrane's sound will echo for generations to come, and his story of artistic innovation and triumph will continue to inspire people of all walks of life.

Dubai Dubai 50 Things to Do in

A city of mesmerizing contrasts, Dubai is Old World charm meets modern metropolis – and it blends the two together in ultimate style that few other cities around the world can match. Dubai attractions come in all forms; from traditional pedestrian markets to the world’s tallest building, and everything in between.

Having been built up exponentially over the past half-century, the city’s skyline is now peppered with towering skyscrapers, while its streets are lined with luxury malls and five-star hotels. And yet despite all the modernity on display, Dubai has managed to retain much of its traditional Arabic culture and heritage – meaning that whether you’re a history buff, architecture lover, adrenaline junkie (make sure to venture out to the desert dunes nearby) or foodie (the souks are a melting pot of flavors that can’t be missed), you’ll be spoiled for choice for noteworthy attractions in Dubai.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the historic district of Bastakiya, where you can wander through meandering alleyways lined with colorful wind towers and traditional merchant houses before hopping over to the slew of modern attractions at Zabeel Park just 10 minutes away.

So, without further ado, here are our 50 best tourist attractions in Dubai that you simply cannot miss!

1 – Burj Khalifa

Piercing the clouds at a towering 830 meters (2723 feet) high – almost triple the size of the Eiffel Tower in Paris – the iconic and foreboding Burj Khalifa stands not only as the most famous Dubai landmark, but the tallest building in the world.

And, as you’d expect from a skyscraper of this status, the views from atop its observation deck are nothing short of extraordinary. As the tallest outdoor observation deck, at a whopping 1,820 feet high, visitors are greeted with 360-degree views of Dubai’s magnificent skyline and contrasting desert and ocean landscapes.

If you’re feeling extra fancy, head to the Atmosphere Grill and Lounge – an upscale 122nd-floor eaterie with floor-to-ceiling windows where you can sip champagne as you soak up the incredible vistas.

There are plenty of other Dubai attractions that offer breathtaking views, but few can match the sheer scale and grandeur of the Burj Khalifa. So if you’re looking to tick one thing off your Dubai bucket list, make sure it’s this!

2 – Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo

Boasting an enormous underwater viewing tunnel, fascinating glass-bottom boat tours, and over 140 different species of sea life (not to mention the largest collection of Sand Tiger sharks in the world) – the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the best things to do in Dubai with kids if you’re looking for an immersive and educational experience.

Across the expansive 10-million-liter aquarium, visitors have the rare chance to get up close and personal with some of the most intimidating (yet often misunderstood) predators in the world, including sharks and rays, alongside thousands of bright and vibrant creatures (everything from seahorses to starfish and jellies) in impressively constructed rainforest and deep ocean environments.

If you’re feeling brave, you can even get up close with the friendlier creatures at the touch tanks! Located right next to the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, the aquarium is one of the most centrally located attractions in Dubai – perfect for those who want to make the most of their time in the city.

3 – Miracle Gardenv

The ideal morning destination for Instagrammers and nature-lovers alike, the Miracle Garden is a vibrant and colorful oasis that sells itself as one of the must-visits for anyone traveling to Dubai. Set across 72,000 square meters of land, this enchanting garden playground is home to over 50 million flowers arranged into intricate designs and patterns (think hearts, butterflies, castles, ducks, and even a giant Emirates plane!).

About 70% of the garden’s displays are constantly changing throughout the year (with different themes for each season), so there’s always something new to see and light up that social media feed – no matter how many times you visit.

And if you thought the outside was impressive, just wait until you see the indoor butterfly garden! Here you can walk among thousands (close to 15,000, to be exact) of free-flying butterflies as they flutter around you in a beautiful temperature-controlled environment.

4 – Burj Al Arab Hotel

Made famous back in 1999 by being dubbed ‘the world’s only seven-star hotel’, the Burj Al Arab is one of Dubai’s most iconic and luxurious landmarks.

Positioned on its own man-made island just offshore from Jumeirah Beach, this sail-shaped hotel is impossible to miss – and it’s not just because of its size (at 321 meters tall, it’s one of the tallest hotels in the world).

From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with an incredible level of opulence and extravagance with an engulfing atrium that needs to be seen to be believed. From the stunning marble lobby with its grandiose staircases and calming waterfall features, to the lavish suites complete with 24-karat gold iPads and butler service (there’s a staff-to-suite ratio of 8:1) – no expense has been spared in making the Burj Al Arab one of the most luxurious hotels on the planet.

Foodies, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, be sure to book a time to dine at one of the seven world-renowned restaurants on site. From delectable French cuisine at Al Muntaha, to classic seafood fare at Al Mahara – your taste buds will be in for a treat.

5 – Dubai Frame

A little off the beaten track in Zabeel Park, the Dubai Frame is one of those hidden gems that’s often overlooked by first-time visitors to the city.

And that’s a shame, because this 150-meter tall structure offers some of the best views in Dubai. From the top of the frame, you can see old Dubai on one side and new Dubai on the other – making it the perfect place to get your bearings and understand how this city has transformed itself from a small trading port into one of the most futuristic metropolises on earth.

But it’s not just about the views from the 93-meter glass skywalk; inside, there’s also an informative museum chronicling Dubai’s rich history, as well a handful of displays pointing toward the future of the city.

Hot tip: arrive about an hour before sunset and, if possible, avoid weekends as it can get a little crowded.

6 – The View at The Palm credit to The View at The Palm

Regularly finding itself on the front of postcards and Instagram stories, the world-famous and manmade Palm Jumeirah archipelago, constructed to resemble the shape of a palm tree, has long been one of Dubai’s most renowned landmarks.

While there are plenty of ways to experience the Palm – from taking a leisurely stroll down the boardwalk or going for a swim at one of the many beaches – perhaps the best way to see it is from above at The View at The Palm.

Towering 240 meters above the sands, perched on the 52nd floor of The Palm Tower, this observation deck offers breathtaking panoramic views over the Palm, Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), Arabian Gulf, Bluewaters Island.

On a clear day, you can even see all the way to Burj Khalifa and beyond. So make sure you bring your camera, and reserve a few minutes for sipping on cocktails at the elegant View Lounge (the Cheers at The View package oozes VIP luxury, if that’s what you’re after).

7 – Sharjah Grand Mosque

Stepping away from the ultra-luxe and diving into the traditional and cultural side of this Arabian metropolis, the Sharjah Grand Mosque is one of Dubai’s most important (not to mention architecturally stunning) historical locales. This beautiful house of worship was built in 2014 and can accommodate up to 25,000 worshippers at any one time. With beautiful domes, chandeliers, and windows, as well as towering 60-meter-high minarets, this cherished landmark is brilliant inside and out.

Just be mindful that you dress modestly (think long pants/dresses and tops that cover your shoulders) out of respect for the customs. And if you really want to get a taste of traditional Emirati culture, sign up for one of the mosque’s guided tours which dives into the building, city, and culture.

8 – Dubai Creek

Hop aboard a traditional dhow cruise and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Once the beating heart of Dubai, this saltwater creek acted as an important trading hub for merchants from all over the world and was responsible for much of the city’s early growth.

Nowadays, it remains an integral part of local life – many residents still live and work on its shores – and is one of those places that really helps give Dubai its unique character.

You can explore the creek by taking a leisurely stroll along its banks, hopping on an abra (a small wooden water taxi) to get from one side to the other, or taking a dhow cruise at sunset for a truly magical experience as you glide past illuminated souks, modern skyscrapers, and traditional wind towers.

With a range of Dhow cruises to choose from – including combination tours that visit the nearby sand dunes or Burj Khalifa as well – you’ll find something intriguing no matter your interest or budget.

10 – Palm Jumeirah

Remarkable both for its size and its distinctive shape, the Palm Jumeirah is one of Dubai’s most famous artificial islands and a major tourist attraction in its own right.

Aptly named after its palm tree-shaped outline, this massive manmade island juts out into the Persian Gulf and is home to an array of luxury hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, and top-tier Dubai tourist attractions.

One of the most popular things to do on the Palm is to take a ride on the Palm Jumeirah Monorail, which offers stunning views of not only the island itself but also nearby Burj Al Arab and Atlantis The Palm. Along the way you’ll stop at the Golden Mile Galleria, Al Ittihad Park, Nakheel Mall, and Atlant, each destination worth exploring in its own right!

If you’re feeling active (and have deep pockets), experience a speedboat tour, or why not try your hand at paddleboarding or flyboarding (sometimes called the ‘jetovator’).

11 – Dubai Fountain

Dazzling visitors time and time again, the Dubai Fountain is a whimsical water wonder that provides the perfect backdrop for any tourist snap. Located at the base of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and next to The Dubai Mall, the largest shopping center in the world, this massive musical fountain is truly a sight to behold.

Performing daily at sunset (and sometimes during the day), the Dubai Fountain puts on an impressive display of water, light, and music that is emblematic of Dubai’s desire to outperform the rest of the world in style, size, and technology. And it does so every half hour in the evenings from 6pm to 11pm.

Best seen from one of the many nearby cafes or restaurants with outdoor seating, it’s also possible to take a ride on an abra for a closer look – just make sure you’re prepared to get wet!

12 – Desert Safari

Despite towering skyscrapers and engineering marvels in every direction, Dubai is still very much a desert city. And what would a visit to the desert be without a safari?

There are plenty of tour operators offering half-day and full-day excursions into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, but if you’re looking for something truly special, go for a day trip that hits up a wide range of the reserve’s essential activities.

Hurl down at high speed at the sand dunes, enjoy a camel ride or quad bike through the desert, pop into a camel farm to see a more traditional side of the area, and end your day with a homely Arabian dinner under the stars.

Just make sure to book in advance as these tours often sell out weeks in advance!

13 – Bur Dubai Souk Market

One of the quintessential attractions in Dubai for shoppers and hagglers alike, the Bur Dubai Souk Market is a bustling waterfront labyrinth of narrow covered lanes overflowing with every conceivable type of merchandise.

From embroidered fabrics and hand-woven carpets to spices, gold, perfume, and souvenirs, this is the place to come if you’re looking to pick up a few bargains or simply soak up the unique atmosphere.

The market is open daily from 10am to 10.30pm, but the best time to come is in the evening when the heat has died down.

14 – Museum of the Future

Like stepping into a fascinating world of tomorrow, the Museum of the Future in the city’s Financial District is one of Dubai’s most unique and futuristic attractions.

Designed to be a platform for innovation and a hub for discussion about the future, the museum is home to a number of interactive exhibits that explore everything from artificial intelligence to biotechnology, the long-term sustainability of food, health, water, energy, transportation (flying cars, anyone?) and more.

There is also an area dedicated to children, where the little ones can solve challenges to become earth’s “future heroes”; and with 7 floors spread across the impressive, 77-meter-tall Torus-shaped structure, it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon if you’re interested in learning more about the cutting edge technologies that are shaping our next generations.

credit to La Perle by Dragone

Looking for things to do in Dubai at night? An extravagant live performance of water, acrobatics, and pyrotechnics, La Perle by Dragone promises a night of unforgettable entertainment, holding its own as one of Dubai’s most popular evening shows.

With a cast of over 65 international artists (comprising 23 nationalities if you don’t mind), the show tells the story of Dubai through the lens of a young girl who stumbles into a dream-like state and wanders through the UAE in search of a lost pearl, uncovering different cultures, ecosystems, and people along the way – all brought to life with stunning special effects, including rainstorms, fireballs, giant drums, and flying motorcycles.

Set inside a purpose-built theatre with state-of-the-art technology and seating for up to 1300 people, La Perle is an immersive experience that will leave you feeling both exhilarated and inspired.

One of the quintessential family tourist attractions in Dubai, especially considering the year-round sizzling heat, Atlantis Aquaventure is a sprawling waterpark located on the man-made Palm Jumeirah island.

With over 30 slides and attractions, including Dubai’s longest Lazy River, a zip line that soars 65 feet over the park, slides that plummet through shark-filled lagoons, and plenty of pools and beaches to relax in among a handful of other record-breaking rides, there’s something here for everyone – and with a dedicated Splashers Kids’ Play Area, little ones are guaranteed to have a splashing good time too.

Don’t forget to check out the park’s Sea Lion Point where you can get up close and personal with these charismatic creatures, or consider taking a leisurely stroll through The Lost Chambers Aquarium next door, to see over 65,000 marine animals swimming around in their natural habitat.

17 – Ski Dubai

A powdery white ski hill in the middle of the desert? Believe it or not, complete with chairlifts, penguins, and apres-ski alike, Ski Dubai is one of the top tourist attractions in Dubai – and with 22,500 square meters of indoor ski area (one of the top three largest in the world), its easy to see why.

Featuring 5 different slopes of varying difficulties, a dedicated freestyle zone, a range of lessons for beginner skiers and snowboarders alike, and a Penguin Encounter where you can meet and greet a handful of furry friends (you won’t find that at your typical ski resort!), this is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.

You’ll find the multiple award-winning ski hill (named world’s best indoor ski resort for three years running) at the Mall of Emirates – an attraction in its own right that delivers four floors of shopping, over 900 stores, and a cinema to boot.

18 – Dubai Garden Glow

A must-visit during the cooler months, Dubai Garden Glow is a unique attraction that’s part sculpture park, part theme park, and glow-in-the-dark wonderland – all rolled into one.

Located at Zabeel Park and featuring millions of LED lights spread across five different zones (the Dinosaur Park, the Glow Park, the Glow Garden, the Ice Park, the Magic Park, and the Art Park), this is one of the most Instagrammable places in Dubai. Doused in neon and whimsically lighting up the night sky, Garden Glow showcases all kinds of quirky illuminated creations – from wildlife animals and marine creatures to flowers, trees, and birds, and a slew of mind-bending optical illusions, there’s something to catch your eye in every direction.

Throw in a variety of live entertainment including acrobatic shows, firework displays, and musical performances from local and international artists, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect night out.

19 – LEGOLAND® Dubai

A crowd favorite for galavanting families and builders-to-be, LEGOLAND® Dubai is one of the best tourist attractions in Dubai for kids 2 to 12 years of age (but, let’s be honest, Lego-loving parents have a ball here too).

Featuring over 40 rides, shows, and attractions spread across six different themed lands (Miniland, LEGO® City, Adventureland, Imagination Land, Kingdoms Land, and Factory Land), as well as a waterpark next door, there’s enough here to keep little ones entertained for hours on end.

And with interactive experiences like LEGO® City Driving School where kids can get behind the wheel of their very own LEGO car and walk away with an official LEGOLAND® Driving Licence or the 4D Studios where next-generation technology is on display, the tots might never want to leave!

Hot tip: make sure to spend some time in Miniland – while not chock-full of rides, it impresses with over 20 million LEGO® bricks built to replicate Dubai’s iconic skyline and key landmarks from all over the Middle East.

20 – Dubai Museum

Housed inside the oldest building in the city, the Al Fahidi Fort on the shores of the Dubai Creek which dates back to the late 1700s, Dubai Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning about the Emirate’s rich culture and heritage.

Founded in 1971 to preserve Dubai’s history and display its traditional way of life (before the discovery of oil and the building up of the now-futuristic city), the museum today is an engaging, interactive space that tells the story of how Dubai has evolved from a small fishing and pearling village to the bustling metropolis it is today.

With exhibits on traditional Arabic houses, mosques, souks, boats, weaponry, musical instruments, and more (with some items dating as far back as 3000BC), as well as a walk-through diorama of old Dubai complete with sounds and smells, this is one attraction that provides insight into what life was like before all the glitz and glamour.

The life-size dioramas are a constant delight, and at only AED three per person (about 80 cents US), it’s an absolute bargain of a destination.

21 – Al Marmoom Camel race track

Lesser-known to tourists but one of the more renowned Dubai attractions among locals, the Al Marmoom Camel Race Track is where you catch a glimpse of a sporting tradition that’s existed in the Middle East for over 2,500 years – albeit in a more modern environment.

Al Marmoom is the biggest camel race track in Dubai, sits right next to the Al Marmoom Heritage Village in the heart of the desert, and, best of all, is totally free to visit.

Keep in mind: the race season usually runs exclusively from October to April in the winter months, with races happening in the early mornings on Fridays and Saturdays.

Travels 43

22 – Deira Clocktower

A symbol of the city and one of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, the Deira Clocktower is an impressive sight to behold whether you’re seeing it for the first time or the hundredth.

The clocktower was built in 1963 in the heart of Dubai’s old trading district to signify the first land-crossing between Deira and Bur Dubai – a nod to the area’s industrial development – and has since become one of the most popular photo spots in town (as well as a handy navigation point at the intersection of Umm Hurair Road and D89).

These days, the area has been built up around it, surrounded now by a busy roundabout where a plethora of eateries await – from Illusions Lounge and Yakitate to the Dampa Seafood Grill, the area is a formidable spot for blending history and architecture with a spot of lunch.

23 – Green Planet

Like taking a journey into your very own tropical rainforest, The Green Planet is one of Dubai’s newest attractions and a nonnegotiable stop on any UAE itinerary for animal and nature lovers.

Housed inside a massive biodome along one of the city’s most popular lifestyle districts, City Walk, the indoor rainforest is home to over 3000 species of animals, plants, and birds – many of which are endangered or on the brink of extinction.

As well as being an incredibly educational experience (there are plenty of informative displays and talks throughout the day across the four levels: the Canopy, the Midstory, the Forest Floor and the Flooded Rainforest), it’s also great fun – kids will love getting up close to sloths, sugar gliders, snakes and parrots while adults can appreciate the engineering feat that is this captivating man-made ecosystem.

Looking to make your visit to the next level? For the brave of the brave, the Green Planet offers guests the chance to swim with Piranhas!

24 – Dubai Global Village

A Dubai institution, the Global Village is a journey through the diverse culture of humankind; showcasing people, traditions, history, and lifestyles of countries as far and wide as Egypt, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, and China, to name but a few of the 90 different cultures depicted.

An unmissable spot for any first-time traveler to the city, the huge open-air themed market and entertainment destination puts the world in perspective; while we are all different and unique, we also have a lot in common – a love for food, language, and art, for starters.

Running typically from October to May, the Global Village is open for five months of the year and welcomes millions of visitors during that time – so if you’re in town, make sure to add it your itinerary and enjoy the famous replicas of World Heritage Sites like the Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, and Taj Mahal; the high-paced stage shows, and the family-friendly thrill rides!

25 – 3D World Dubai Trick-Art ‘Selfie’ Museum

credit to Dubai 3D World

Guaranteed to impress (and confuse) your social media followers, the Dubai Trick-Art Museum is a fun-filled activity for all the family. With over 185 different optical illusions and ‘trick art’ paintings, this air-conditioned venue holds its own as the largest 3D trick art museum in the world. Featuring iconic landmarks from near and far, as well as local scenes dedicated to fantasy, humor, or history, it’s the perfect place to while away a few hours (and rack up those likes).

Not only is it great fun trying to figure out how the paintings were created, but it’s also a unique way to explore some of Dubai’s most popular attractions without even leaving the city!

26 – Deira district

A shopper’s paradise, the Deira district is where you’ll find everything from traditional Arabic markets and souks to modern malls. But that’s not all this historic area of Dubai has to offer: take a ride on an abra (traditional water taxi) down the creek, visit the Gold Souk to admire – and purchase – some of the finest jewelry in the world, or haggle for spices and souvenirs at the bustling Spice Souk. At the latter, you’ll uncover everything from fresh herbs to rare spice blends unique to the Middle East, making it one of the best places in Dubai for foodies and fragrance-lovers alike!

If, after browsing the aromatic Spice Shuk, you want to follow your nose to another level, The Perfume Souk (located next to the Gold Souk,) is a hotbed of smells that will tantalize your senses! Here, thousands of smells range from subtle to potent, and represent a host of the most common scents in Arabian life. And, of course, with hundreds of distributors and vendors, you can practice your negotiating skills all day.

And when you need a break from all that shopping, stop by one of the many cafes and restaurants for a refreshing cup of coffee or some delicious Emirati cuisine.

27 – Al Noor Island

A wonderful escape from the crowded city, Al Noor Island is a man-made oasis located in the heart of Sharjah on Khalid Lake. A popular spot for picnics and days out, the island is connected to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge and features lush gardens, meandering walkways, charming fountains, and an incredible butterfly house.

The butterfly house is home to over hundreds of brightly colored butterflies which flit freely around the tropical plants; it’s truly a magical experience!

If you’re looking for a calm and serene spot to relax in nature, not to mention admire the brilliant skylines of both Dubai and Sharjah from afar, the new and still little-known Al Noor Island is the perfect place – just be sure to bring your camera to capture some amazing photos.

Travels 44

28 – The Lost Chambers Aquarium

If you’re after attractions in Dubai suitable for youngsters, the Lost Chambers Aquarium at Atlantis The Palm is an excellent choice. Home to over 65,000 marine animals, the aquarium features a series of chambers and tunnels (no less than 21 amazing exhibits) which impress and amaze with shark-filled lagoons, rays gliding overhead, and vibrant coral gardens.

Younger children will love the interactive shows where they can learn all about the different creatures inhabiting the aquarium; while older kids (and adults!) can get up close and personal with some of the residents on a behind-the-scenes tour or by participating in a snorkeling or feeding session.

With so much to see and do, and a handy proximity to the beloved adventureland that is the Atlantis Water Park, it’s a justifiably popular choice for vacationers.

29 – Motiongate Dubai

All about Tinseltown, show-biz, and the glitz and glam of Hollywood, Motiongate Dubai is a cinephile’s delight, combining all the tropes of classic American cinema into one incredible theme park.

With five themed zones (Studio Central, Dreamworks, Columbia Pictures, Lionsgate, and the kid-friendly Smurfs’ Village), attractions include a raft of 30 rides and rollercoasters inspired by some of your favorite films including The Hunger Games (be sure to ride the Capitol Bullet Train!), Shrek, Madagascar, Zombieland, Ghostbusters, and Kung-Fu Panda, and a whole lot more. The youngest visitors will love the Smurfs Village Playland; while big kids can enjoy the exhilarating adrenaline rush of flying through New York City on The Green Hornet: High-Speed Chase or being plunged 58 meters into the air on Zombieland Blast Off. Whatever your age or interests, there’s something at Motiongate Dubai to get your heart racing and scratch that movie itch!

30 – The Dubai Mall

Enormous being an understatement, The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall by total area, with over 12 million square feet of space (and fittingly located next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa).

As well as being home to more than 1200 stores, 200 restaurants and cafes, an Olympic-sized ice rink with regular learn-to-skate programs, an indoor aquarium and underwater zoo, a kid’s edutainment center (KidZania), and much more, the mall also offers some incredible views of the Burj Khalifa from its outdoor terraces.

In other words? You could easily spend an entire day (or two) here and still not see everything!

Oh, and did we mention there’s a 25-meter-long, 155 million-year-old dinosaur skeleton too? Clearly, these guys don’t do things by halves.

Hot tip: because Dubai’s weather is typically off-the-charts hot, it’s best to visit the Mall during the peak heat hours of the day (air conditioning is your friend!) before venturing out in the evening to explore Dubai’s incredible nightlife when things have cooled down a bit.

31 – Love Lake – Dubai

Traveling with your loved one and looking for romantic things to do in Dubai?

Large enough that it can be seen from space (take that, Great Wall of China), Love Lake is quite simply one of the most unique attractions in the greater Dubai region.

A man-made lake located in the otherworldly Al Qudra Oasis, tucked away amidst the Al Salam desert dunes, the lake is shaped –you guessed it – like a heart; two large, interconnected hearts, in fact.

A little cheesy but romantic nonetheless, the area has been built up so that love is all around, with plants and flowers shaped in hearts dotting the leisurely walkway.

The lakes are open 24 hours for both visiting or camping, all up, offering both a pleasant and lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of typical Dubai life, and with more than 175 species of birds (not to mention the ducks and land-based wildlife), it’s a hidden gem well-worthy of a visit.

32 – Meydan Racecourse

Home to some of the lushest greenery you’ll find in the region, the futuristic-looking Meydan Racecourse, with room for more than 60,000 eager spectators, is one of Dubai’s most popular local sporting meccas.

As well as being a world-class horse racing venue (most famous for hosting the $30-million Dubai World Cup every March), the racecourse also offers several other activities and amenities, including a golf course, tennis courts, restaurants and cafes (the Winner’s Circle restaurant is all class), and – perhaps most impressively – a luxury hotel.

Races run from November through to April most years (avoiding the blaring summer heat), however, the facilities in the area are open year-round, including the opulent and 5-star Meydan Hotel (widely considered one of the best hotels in Dubai, with rooms that offer spectacular views of either the cityscape or racetrack).

33 – Dubai Safari Park

Of all the animal-focused Dubai attractions, Dubai Safari Park is constantly held alongside the best of the best, certainly being one of the most immersive.

A world away from your typical caged zoo environment, Dubai SafariPark is more like an African game reserve, with a huge number of animals (more than 3,000 all up, encompassing more than 250 species) residing in open, natural habitats that are as close to their natural homes as possible.

There are five main animal zones at Dubai Safari Park – the African Village, the Asian Village, the Arabian Desert Safari, Explorer Village, and Adventure Valley – each home to a different array of animals; think lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), giraffes and rhinos, komodo dragons, moon bears, baboons, Nile crocodiles, elephants, orangutans, and flamboyant flamingos (the list really does go on).

Besides the chance to get up close and personal with some incredible animals, there are plenty of fun-filled activities for families to enjoy together here too; from the kids farm to the multitude of live wildlife shows!

Travels 45

34 – Jebel Jais

A cruisey two-hour drive from Dubai, straddling the border of the UAE and Oman, Jebel Jais is the tallest mountain in the UAE, measuring in at a whopping 1,934 meters.

A popular spot for both locals and tourists alike, Jebel Jais has become somewhat of an adrenaline junkie’s playground over recent years, playing host to a number of exciting activities and attractions.

For starters, there’s the world’s longest zipline at almost 2800 meters (according to Guinness), which offers breathtaking views of the Hajar Mountains as you speed along at up to 150 kilometers an hour (93 mph); or the Jebel Jais Sky Tour, where the thrills are far more long-lived as you fly over the jagged mountain range on a dramatic five-kilometer-long, six-zip-line course.

35 – Etihad Museum

Full of insights into the local culture – both modern and traditional – the Etihad Museum is one of the newest Dubai attractions, having only opened in 2017. Located in Jumeirah, on the site next to the former Union House where the UAE was founded in 1971 (free tours of which, by the way, are available), this excellent museum dives into the history of the UAE through well designed and interactive exhibits that focus on a number of different sections of UAE history and culture.

As you walk in, you can’t miss the giant painting by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais that depicts the geography of the UAE; while other sections explore the Union’s founding fathers, showcase 3D documentaries about the founding years, and display artifacts like the signed union agreement itself and Sheikh Rashid’s passport.

Not too far away sits the Jumeirah Mosque and the Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Dubai, two very different yet very popular tourist destinations each within walking distance.

36 – Dubai Autodrome

Craving that need for speed? You’ll find it in spades (and then some) at the Dubai Autodrome – one of the most popular things to do in Dubai for petrol heads and car enthusiasts.

With a capacity for 15,000 spectators, the 5-kilometer Dubai Autodrome circuit has hosted some of the world’s most prestigious racing events over its 15+ year history; think Le Mans Series, MotoGP, the UAE Procar Championship, and a whole lot more.

Besides being a spectacular venue for watching live races (check their website to see what’s on during your stay), the Autodrome is also home to Kartdrome – one of the best go-karting tracks in town where both kids and adults can race around like maniacs in electric go-karts. The outdoor 1.2km International Circuit is perfect for speed demons, while the younger ones usually prefer the 620-meter-long indoor circuit.

For the ultimate thrill, however, sign up for a hot lap in one of the supercars! From driving a Ferrari GT to a legitimate Formula DXB, as well as BMWs, Audi TTs, McLarens, Renault Clios, and Prodrift-style single-seaters, high octane is just around the corner!

37 – Dubai Opera

A wonderful way to spend an evening; dressed to the nines and experience the local haut-classe culture, Dubai Opera is a stunningly designed, state-of-the-art performance venue that opened its doors in 2016.

With a capacity for 2000 people, Dubai Opera has already become one of the most popular things to do in the Downtown Dubai area (especially if you consider yourself more of a culture vulture), playing host to a number of excellent shows, operas, ballets, musicals, and more throughout the year.

Considered the shining pearl of The Opera District – it’s just one of many entertainment venues in the Dubai Mall area, and worth visiting even if only to admire the modern structure from the outside.

38 – Dubai Marina

If you’re looking to ditch the high-octane thrills of dune buggies, skyscrapers, and water parks for a more low-key way to spend the day, head over to Dubai Marina and stroll along the water’s edge, stopping for an ice cream or coffee in one of the many cafes that line the promenade.

Or, if you’re feeling active, rent a bicycle or inline skates and make your way down the palm tree-lined Marina Walk; on weekends especially, this is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to get some fresh air, and with no less than 305 outlets and 69 restaurants along the 7km stretch, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to eats and activities.

For those who want to stay afloat, there are plenty of options for renting a yacht or boat – from small dinghies to massive luxury yachts – and taking in the sights from the water.

And when night falls, the party doesn’t stop – the luxurious lifestyle transitions from shopping to partying, with a handle of waterfront bars and clubs acting as tourist magnets.

Scattered all over the park are whimsically themed eateries, costumed characters, and marvelous and meticulous details and decorations, all combining into a brilliant day out for the whole family.

Hot tip: for the best bang for your buck (and to see the most of the neighboring city) consider booking a tour that includes transport as well as entry to Ferrari World and stops at iconic landmarks like Emirates Place and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. And, while you’re at it, make sure to check out our comprehensive list of exciting things to do in Abu Dhabi!

44 – Al Fahidi Historical District

Head to Al Fahidi Historical District for a step back in time – this is where old Dubai comes to life.

Wander the narrow, meandering streets and alleyways and you’ll find traditional Arabian houses, art galleries, quaint cafes, and boutique hotels housed in beautifully restored heritage buildings.

The area is also home to the Dubai Museum, which offers an insightful look into the city’s past with its exhibits on archaeology, Emirati culture and traditions, the evolution of the city in recent decades, and more.

Spend an afternoon exploring this atmospheric district along the Dubai Creek; pop into one of the oldest markets in the region, the Textile Souq; check out the Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest existing building in the city; browse the charming Arabian Tea House for a deserved refreshment, and you’ll quickly see why this area is considered one of the best tourist attractions in Dubai.

45 – Mall of the Emirates

Shopaholics, take note!

Mall of the Emirates is one of Dubai’s most popular shopping malls, and it’s easy to see why.

With over 630 stores to suit luxury fashionistas, bargain hunters, and everyone in between; as well as 100 restaurants, you’ll be maxing out your credit card in no time.

Despite the religious significance, the mosque is open to people from all religions and walks of life, with daily guided visits for all at 10am and 2pm (except Fridays). Besides the chance to learn about the architecture and spirituality of the building from the friendly guide, you’ll also be treated to some light Emirati refreshments.

HOUSTON ASTROS

2022 World Champions

Again, with World Championship #2 and the team is keeping score! The key word here is t-e-a-m. Maybe historically it’s the greatest team baseball has seen since. You tell me… the Atlanta Braves magical years, New York Yankees dynasty, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, or maybe even my favorite childhood dominant team, the Cincinnati Reds! The Big Red Machine…

team records with their hitting, pitching, and fielding! One more year, Astro fans are having a lot of fun and excitement watching baseball with anticipation, knowing we have a shot if the baseball gods and a little bit of luck fall our way again.

No “trash cans” are necessary this year bringing home another trophy to H-Town. World Series champions 2022, Our Houston Astros are in the mix. Let's finish the cake and eat Houston!

Unbelievable… and the possibility became the manifested reality for The Astro’s.

Look out MLB because it’s coming back, and this TEAM is not done! Pitching? Let me finish the list! I missed mentioning Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero (signed 23-24) Hector Neris, Josh James, J.P. France, Ryan Stanek, Hunter Brown, and one more Aahhh… Oh YAAAA

Ryan Pressley!

Batting? MVP 2023 Mr. Tucker (Ted)

Mr. Yuli Sir, MVP 2022 Jeremy, and Magic Man McCormick!

Defense? It doesn’t get better than two guys, the boss Maldonado, and Winner Vasquez behind the plate. The owner Jim Crane is doing it right, and he is holding the ship together even though he had to change the two biggest positions that determine if you’re a Champion or 2nd place 99.9% of the time. Two championships, two different GMs, and coaches! Dusty Baker is back signed and on board. Mr. Click has departed but does a great job for years of keeping it healthy and in great condition. I believe Mr. Crane will continue to be the Leader of a great organization that leads from top to bottom, Teamwork!

Houston Astros 2022 may be the best team put together ever in Houston, at least from a pitching perspective with their newest talent Hunter Brown showing off his abilities in his first major league game with six hitless innings of pitching. Just like any year in baseball it’s all about health between Justin Verlander, and Lance McCullers and being ready and able to finish the playoffs and World Series on a healthy note.

The bullpen or Pitching staff is loaded with the likes of Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, Jose Urquidy, Luis Garcia, and the list goes on…Regarding the Astros “hitting”, raises some questions. Now, can the big man Yordan Álvarez get back to form and stay healthy?

Alex Bregman coming around to his old form and being that threat at the plate as he always has been. José Altuve is durable and reliable…the man of the hour when it counts and Astro’s constant Allstar. New additions include Tray Mancini and Christian Vázquez with their hitting, making a difference right from the start with the Astros.

This Astros team answered the bell when it came to the Yankees during the season and the Mets, much to the surprise and delight of every Houston fan. The National baseball league and Vegas have finally come around making the Houston Astros the odds favorite to represent the American League in the World Series. How about those Dodgers… they have a great team this year, as well as smashing all kinds of

to Get You Dancing African Music Genres

Over the past few years, Afrobeats has been taking over the American music scene. With artists like WizKid and Davido Collaborating with well-known rappers like Drake, Young Thug, and Chris Brown, there has been more room for African crossovers in the top charts.

With a seat at the table finally being reserved for African music, clubs, and venues that used to be strictly hip hop and R&B on the turntables. It used to be refreshing to hear a DJ shout out “Where are my Africans at?” and watch the crowd turn up to whatever song drops next. However, I know my people are tired of hearing” Joanna” and” If” back-to-back. Let’s explore some more musical cultures that will get your feet and hips moving!

Afroswing, afrobashment, afrowave, afrotrap… whatever you want to call it, is competing with Afrobeats for the best music out right now. After American artists like Migos and Pop Smoke (RIP) took over international charts, African musicians in the UK began to mix afro sounds with American hip-hop/trap/drill vibes. Not only that, but one could say there’s a dancehall-Esque flow in Afroswing.

Arguably some of the best dancers in the world, South Africa is credited with creating AfroHouse and Amapiano. AfroHouse is a mixture of kwaito, tribal, and soulful house music while Amapiano infuses jazz and lounge-like percussion with kwaito and house. These sounds are out of this world and guaranteed to make you nod your head and shoulders! Amapiano has gone from a local South African trend to an international phenomenon, finding its way onto dance floors across the globe.

Not to be confused with the Haitian Kompa or Dominican Bachata, Kizomba is a romantic and sultry dance brought to you by the lusophone country of Angola. Kizomba is a slowed-down version of zouk and semba music. The music feels sensual and smooth.
